WWE chooses TVN Entertainment for VOD; Agreement Marks Premier VOD Satellite Delivery of WWE 24/7

BURBANK, Calif. & STAMFORD, Conn., Feb 25, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- TVN Entertainment Corporation, the leading provider of on demand television programming, management and distribution services, and World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE:WWE), the largest provider of event programming in the world, today announced the signing of a wide-ranging VOD Preferred Partner services agreement.

The agreement covers VOD services and distribution for WWE®'s new subscription on demand service, WWE 24/7. The new SVOD offering will feature highly-rated Pay-Per-View, cable and syndicated broadcast content, best-selling home videos, new original productions and proprietary broadband, from the WWE and other acquired national and regional wrestling brands. As a TVN Preferred Partner, WWE 24/7 may utilize TVNow, the only industry-wide rapid VOD encode/transport service - which allows content owners to capture live programs/events and make them available "on demand" to customers within hours of the original broadcast. WWE and TVN may also pursue opportunistic and strategic revenue opportunities related to future applications and ITV developments.

"One of our business goals is to effectively utilize our valuable library of more than 75,000 hours of wrestling content covering the WWE, WCW, ECW, and other brands," said Tom Barreca, Senior Vice President of WWE Enterprises. "Our agreement with TVN is a tremendous strategic catalyst to our upcoming rollout across cable operators later this month. This agreement should energize both our distributors and our avid fan base, which is anxious to enjoy WWE 24/7 on their schedule."

"We are extremely happy to expand our relationship with WWE, bringing enormously popular programming to VOD via TVN's advanced platform," said Jim Riley, TVN Executive Vice President. "WWE 24/7 is precisely the kind of unique, branded programming that will energize a new customer category to sample and embrace VOD."

I wish they'd hurry up with this, and maybe have some really awesome one hour specials trying to drum up more buyers.

Example: Take an interesting event and put on a special about it. More people see it, and you break alittle bit into the "Hey, I could dig this -- Cheap too!" crowd, instead of a bunch of smarks.

This should probably be merged with the other thread for conveniance, but its good news that they've hooked up with a supplier that should hopefully get them on, and see this does confirm it will be an On Demand service...

That TVNow thing.....

So that means if WWE RAW just finished airing, and something cool happened, but you missed it, within HOURS, you will be able to see that show? That's pretty cool...

What fucking upcoming rollout across cable operators later this month? Did I miss a press release or something, cuz as far as I know it isn't rolling anywhere. And just how many days are there left in February? If this press release is dated the 25th, are they planning this "upcoming rollout later this month" for Monday then? Hey, everyone, WWE 247 will be available everywhere this Monday!!!

WWE is the stupidest, most useless company. This is all just wishful thinking on their part. For most people this channel will never exist except in the form of endless and increasingly idiotic press releases because they can't get anybody to carry it.

Does anybody know how they got on that one cable company that they're apparently on? How did they make that deal? Are they even trying to get carriage anywhere else?

Tremendous strategic catalyst. Morons.

Wow, you certainly live up to your name, SPS. But you do raise some good points. Does anyone know for sure if this is actually happening or not?

From the quarterly report thread:

Linda refused to talk about what cable companies were negotiating for 24/7, but said there were 8 or 9 contracts out being looked over. She said it looked like it would be offered at a price of $6 to $8 per subscriber.

Which is what I think she said last quarter. Why wouldn't she want to name them?

That's not good business.
