Banter 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2005 Tarantino Boards New Friday the 13th Movie? Source: IGN Filmforce March 7, 2005 IGN Filmforce is reporting that "Kill Bill" helmer Quentin Tarantino is in talks to write and direct The Ultimate Jason Voorhees, a new "Friday the 13th" movie at New Line Cinema. While Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash never came together, this new project will be a co-venture between New Line and Paramount Pictures. The site adds that the movie is on the fast-track and could get underway as early as this year. A rep at William Morris Agency told the site that Tarantino has "not yet" been offered the job, however.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted March 8, 2005 I'm not liking this... I'd love to see Tarantino do a horror movie, but I don't want him wasting it on the 10th "Friday the 13th" sequel. I wouldn't mind seeing him write it, but he's above directing such a project. What exactly do they mean by "Ultimate Jason Voorhees Movie"? I can't imagine what else they could do with the character to make this the "ultimate". His life before drowning wouldn't be interesting enough for a prequel
Shanghai Kid 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2005 Man Tarantino could do a great Jason movie, it's just so out of left field I wouldn't know what to expect.
MrRant 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2005 Is Jason going to call someone a motherfucker before ramming some metallic object through their chest?
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2005 He'd fuck it up. I like both sides of this deal, but it's not good for either of them.
Placebo Effect 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2005 The prospect of a twelfth Friday the 13th (counting the three New Line "Jason" flicks) is more exciting than any of the summer blockbusters. Tarantino possibly coming on board is even better.
bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2005 At this point if he wants to do a Jason movie, they should do a reboot, and start it all over.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted March 8, 2005 I'd prefer to not see another Jason movie, unless they have some amazing new spin planned. I want Tarantino to do his own horror movie, not rehash a dead series. Tarantino doing a completely original horror movie or a Kill Billesque tribute to Italian horror would be great, but not this. Boner Kawanger 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2005 I don't understand why it's a joint venture between Paramount and New Line. Paramount hates the franchise but loves the money, yet I don't see how New Line benefits from Paramount jumping on board.
MrRant 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2005 Better distribution/marketing and also Paramount would be helping to foot the bill.
Boner Kawanger 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2005 New Line is coming off Lord of the Rings, Paramount hasn't had a hit in years. I don't think New Line should be looking to any studios for help. But you could be right.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted March 8, 2005 Paramount may not respect the franchise, but I'm sure they'd give it more love if Tarantino is directing.
Vyce 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2005 Look, if they can't swing Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash, then just let the franchise die, cause it's totally run its course about 8 times over. I just saw Jason X on the Sci-Fi channel this past weekend. Goddamn Jason Voorhees in space. Outside of Lexa Doig, who is VERY doable, that film was utter shit. Just let it die already! Boner Kawanger 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2005 Paramount may not respect the franchise, but I'm sure they'd give it more love if Tarantino is directing. Any studio would love it, but you don't see Fox or WB working with New Line. Paramount only holds the rights to the first eight movies. I just don't understand how they've gotten themselves mixed up in this.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted March 8, 2005 Then I'd assume it means New Line wants to use something they don't own the rights to.
Boner Kawanger 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2005 That means old footage, then. I believe they even have the rights to the name Friday the 13th. Why do I enjoy discussing this so much tonight? Oh, because I'm ignoring an English essay. And Jason is cool.

Myself and others are still ready for another Jason film. It just needs to be done well. Why New Line did Jason in Space when they had pitches for Jason in the winter, which would have been so much more effective, is beyond me.
gWIL 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2005 Jason X was my favorite of the series along with The Final Chapter. I don't understand all the hate it gets I mean jesus they made him the good guy in F vs J. I liked X but it was better before the script got messed with.

How sad is it when you steal an idea from the Leprachaun series for a film? Yeah, nobody was ever in space before that. I hear NASA still pays them royalties. Anyway, Jason the movies, like Jason the character, can never die. Just keep rehashing and redoing until you have Jason LVII: Jason's Baby at the River Styx, it doesn't matter. That's the appeal. Guest Loss Report post Posted March 8, 2005 Tarantino's always in talks to do thousands of movies that never happen. What about the Vega Brothers? Inglorious Bastards? The Casino Royale movie? Another kung-fu movie? Those have just been the rumored projects from the past *twelve months*.

BUTT 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2005 So, we'll see a Friday the 13th that is actually overrated? -=Mike I always felt that Friday the 13th Part VIII was a bit overrated, especially by Leonard Maltin, who called it the best in the series. I also think Jason Goes to Hell was rather underrated, but you won't find a lot of people who agree with that. But it would be strange seeing a Jason movie get critical acclaim for once.
