Der Kommissar Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 TSN article The Buffalo Sabres announced Thursday that they have installed a light blue ice surface at HSBC Arena for two American Hockey League games being played by their AHL affiliate Rochester Americans. Second article I think it looks fascinating anyway. I am not really enthused about the orange blue lines, but it is nice to see that the NHL at least appear to making an effort to improve the game post-lockout.

Brush with Greatness Posted March 12, 2005 Report Posted March 12, 2005 That shade of blue isn't actually bad. And most ice is white. But I still don't see, in experimenting with that why they couldn't still use the blue and red lines. Those orange lines looked ugly.

Although, I would die laughing if some team used neon pink for their ice rink. That would be hilarious. Although, the only two teams I can think of using neon pink are Hurricanes or Coyotes.

Is a casual fan who been truned off from the NHL by Bettman's dumbassery going to come back next year because the ice is a different color? I think having 90% of the screen be white, makes the game seem more boring to the common fan. Looks are important. Just look at the Computer Humanitarian Crucial Whatever bowl. You probably don't know what that is. The Blue Turf bowl. You know what that is. And you'll watch because of it. For a few seconds, at least.

A friend of mine went to High School in the area and she said they have to clean dead birds off the field that think it's a lake and try to land.

If you're too dimwitted to follow the puck, then don't watch the damn sport. Those of us that CAN follow it will enjoy watching the sport the way people have for years and years.

They can use it as bluescreen and make it look like they're playing a hockey game over a bunch of sharks or angry midgets or something. Having a season would be nice too.
