NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2005 City of God is easily the best movie mentioned in this thread, but I think that the thread starter was talking about american "hood" movies, if not, then I apologize. I agree with Ripper that Juice seemed a lot better when I first saw it, and the last time I saw it on HBO it did come off as cheesy, however I almost enjoy those cheesy over the top "ghetto" movies in a "2am on a Wednesday night, can't go to sleep, turn on HBO, oh shit it's JUICE" kind of way. South Central is another one, although on a much lower budget. Vice Lords..... First Time Offender, the HBO Original movie, is pretty decent. There is this other one I can't remember the name of that was cheesy as hell, done on a low budget, and I think it had "The Lady of Rage" in it, as one of the prominent female roles. syxx2001 0 Report post Posted March 16, 2005 New Jack City is loosely based on heroin kingpin Nicky Barnes. The screenwriter is the nephew or god son of him or something like that. But Dame Dash supposedly has the rights to a Nicky Barnes and Bumpy Johnson movie, and he did Paid in Full which is about AZ, Richard Porter and Alpo, so they should be good movies as well. Sorry, I just love drug movies. South Central is pretty decent. Fresh was bad when I watched it when I was little, and I watched it a few months ago and if you dont pay attention to it, it will confuse you so I can see why people would say it sucks. Baby Boy doesnt really have a point so I can see why people say it sucks. I still dont see the hate for Jason's Lyric. Besides the sex scenes, its a good movie. I guess since it was filmed in my city I relate to it. And my cousin was kinda like the real life version of the younger brother. Cept he cleaned up his act.
