Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted March 15, 2005 Benjamin is ruling it. No other current "new" wrestler (I'm not counting veterans here) is aweing me like he has and it's not just because he had that great sprint with Benoit last week. I watched part of his match with Edge last night and found myself marking out harder than I ever have in a match for a "new" guy. He now has one of the best movesets in the WWE, is amazingley athletic, is hungry and is showing an ability to come up with cool counters and such in a match. I'm going to try to keep a closer eye on him in the future to see how good he eventually turns out. I always wondered who'd keep me intereted in wrestling if Benoit didn't happen to be around. I think I may have find somone. Any one else a big fan of Benjamin? Thoughts?
pochorenella 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2005 I've been a fan of Shelton's since his Team Angle days. I also managed to obtain some tapes with matches from OVW when he teamed with Brock and he was quite impressive but nothing earth-shattering at the time. The turning point for me that really opned up my eyes and made me go "DAMN!" was -believe it or not- his match with Christian at Survivor Series. Neither his matches with HHH nor his IC Title win vs. Jericho impressed me that much. I liked his matches with Randy Orton. But at SSeries, when he busted out that reverse slingshot suplex thingie, that made me mark the fuck out. I'm definitely keeping an eye out for him on 2005. Guest Loss Report post Posted March 15, 2005 Benjamin is getting really good. Sad that they never followed up on his HHH win by putting him in main events. Don't be surprised if Charlie Haas jumps to RAW during the draft and they feud.
Guest MikeSC Report post Posted March 15, 2005 I like Shelton --- but I'm concerned that the crowd just doesn't seem to be all over him as they should be. -=Mike
Guest BDC Report post Posted March 15, 2005 I'm a huge Shelton fan myself. I've told some friends of mine that basically I only am really a fan of a handful of folks: Benoit, Benjamin, AJ Styles and Samoa Joe. Shelton just seems to have this incredible energy that seemed to shine through the lack of gimmick and personality they could give to him. He comes across to me like his hallmark could be just being a damned good wrestler and taking on anyone that comes along, I just wish that management would get BEHIND the guy and push instead of letting him idle. Guest MikeSC Report post Posted March 15, 2005 I think they like Benjamin and want to push him, but they don't know how to do it and what direction to take with his character. The writers are too lazy to come up with anything besides "rapper", "thug", or "arrogant prick" for black wrestlers. Honestly, what would have happened to The Rock had he not been able to come up with his own stuff? -=Mike

I don't think the WWE will ever push him into a ME position unless the crowd just starts going nuts for him. Shelton might do much better with a mouthpiece for him. His promos aren't the best. -=Mike
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2005 Shelton's fast become my second favourite wrestler on the RAW roster. It seems like even when he's wrestling slugs like Snitsky- his matches are always exciting to watch. From the jump off the ropes, the sunset flip, the dragon whip- he has such a great moveset. razazteca 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2005 Shelton needs to develop a character beyond smiling and please get another finisher besides the t-bone powerslam.....at least make it a top rope version.
Toxxic 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2005 The smile is good, though. Watch the TitanTron video - that's not a 'smile at the fans' smile, that's a 'you're about to get fucked up' smile. Shelton has a GREAT psycho heel smile, and it at least gives his face persona some edge.

natey2k4 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2005 I do like Shelton.. but I really wish Haas would get the same push. I'm much more a fan of Haas then Shelton, but thats just peronsal perference.. I like both guys so much and just wish they would be both pushed to the top.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2005 To me its a "thank god I still have a job" smile or a nervous "I don't know what to say" smile. Shelton Benjamin needs a manager in the worst way, I would suggest somebody like Stevie Richards or even Evil~Trish.

muzz 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2005 I'm also a fan, but it's disheartening to see him flounder when there's so much potential (and avenues his character could take). I was quite surprised at the pop he recieved when he got his revenge on Snitsky by mauling him with the chair.
Guest Goodear Report post Posted March 15, 2005 They really just haven't given Shelton any sort of actual direction since the Orton feud other than that little 3-week Snitsky program. Just sliding him into the 6-way ladder match doesn't do anything for him other than give him a spot with the other upper midcarders. He would have been much better served being placed in a program with Hassan (who for his faults actually has heat) and letting Shelton get some momentum out of it. razazteca 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2005 I think Davari could be a good manager for Shelton if they want to extend the racist angle.
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2005 The fans don't get behind Shelton because they don't have real reason to. Give him a good 'blood feud' (not literally, more of a 'filled with hatred & rage feud') against a legitimate heel, and people would get behind him. Or, even better, turn him heel and give him a 'filled with hatred & rage feud' against an over face (Jericho?) and I think that they'd have a very over star to build around for a long time. And count me among those that'd like to see Haas switch to Raw and feud with him.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2005 what would they fued over? please don't say the "jealousy over his success" thing...does that EVER work?
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2005 Benjy has "it" and by that I mean the ability to connect with the crowd and get them involved in his matches based strictly on the in-ring work. He's a member of a very select group of workers in the company because of it. Having said that, he has no character. The vignettes did nothing more then establish that he grew up in the hood and got out and made good of his life but there was no follow-up to it. If Benjamin in Evolution could do for him what it did for Batista (not so much Orton) then I'd be down for it.
Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2005 I really like Shelton, but I think being on RAW is hurting him. He not only has to contend with HHH, Randy Orton & Shawn Michaels, but he is also stuck behind the likes of Chris Benoit, Edge & Chris Jericho as well. There is no room for him to go much higher than what he is at. On Smackdown he has to contend primarily with JBL, Kurt Angle, Eddy Guerrero, Big Show & Rey Misterio. Taker is basically a part-timer at this point, so he won't get in the way, and the others are much easier to catch than the guys on RAW. It just seems like he is getting squeezed out of the show at times on RAW, whereas on Smackdown he could carve a bigger niche for himself. There is also the fact that Shelton's biggest natural rival, Kurt Angle, is on Smackdown.

That T-Bone is starting to catch on with me. I'm starting to buy it as pretty dangerous now. I will forever be a mark for the Dragon Whip and the Blinger Splash though. And that jump to the top rope last night was FUCKING SICK. And that long ass sunset flip was even sicker.

Open the Muggy Gate 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2005 yeah, but how long, though, before injuries make him dumb down his offense, a la Booker T? 1000th POST~! From what I've seen, Shelton isn't too injury prone. Just a small knee injury and a misguided knee from Garrison Cade breaking his hand is all so far. Hopefully, he'll be able to keep up with the offense. As long as he has the Dragon Whip, all is good.
