The OAO XNet News Thread!

Recommended Posts

Basically it's just to get your name out there. We've had plenty of vistiors to the website that came to us from X-Net. Hell, there is over 50 registered accounts and if it isn't one of us they came to us through the advertising of X-Net, RoughKut, E-fed Resources, and Google.

Honestly, I need to register us with several more places and get off my ass and finish some of these half-written applications for the website.

Inexplicably, the pre-PPV Smarkdown was rated 2.1. That puts us ahead of only one other show.

Mike and I have drafted an email and sent it to the person listed on the site as being in charge of ratings asking what if anything we can improve.

Well, it's looking up. 13th Hour was ranked 3.1(31/40) which put us at number 3 in the 1,2,3 star division. Also, on the same weekly ratings Storm was rated 3.0 (30/40)

I'm not quite sure what is going on here. We write way better shows on quality of matches alone and when they were actually reading the shows we were popping the top 3 in the 4 and 5 star division. 13th Hour alone had some hella good matches with Griffon/Hawke, Toxxic/Spike, Mak/Danny, Ejiro/Buck, and the main event was exceptional. That's just the second half of the show.

Oh, duh. Yes, they did. I just blanked on it.

I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. In the past month we have

made some changes at X-NET, internally. The person who was doing the ratings

resigned from his position and we had to find someone else.

As always, the ratings are done for fun, and in no way should be taken as

gospel. They are only one man's opinion. Having said that, the new person is

rather harsh when judging, as instructed by me. The low marks have come in

the Originality category which in turn brings down the Entertainment

numbers. Hopefully, I have answered your questions.

I am sure that with your PPV this past week, your rating will improve.

Thanks,

Brad

X-NET Owner

So we're unoriginal? Right. Ok... I think I have the answer.

Sorry Jay, but you're in an Opposite Zone, so you DON'T want in by saying you do.

In that same vein, by not saying that I want in, I do want in, because I'm in an Opposite Zone myself.

I was going to suggest that, but couldn't bring myself to. I reckon we just coke up Raynor and see what he can bring to the table.

Well if you guys want to take a look and form as much of a non-biased opinon as you can, here is the #1 rated show for the 5 star division.

Maybe we should look and take an honest approach to it and see if they really are putting together a better show then us. I compared it to 13th Hour and I honestly don't think it holds up.

Or, since he's already a mod, let Kibs book.

It won't mean he'll have to read the shows or anything though, since that's lame.

"Here are the matches. You make the stips."

"First blood. LSD on a pole. Bukkake. Loser's girlfriend dies. Loser gets his neck broken."

I will now play Devil's Advocate and say five things about NLCW Avulsion that were better than the latest edition of SWF Smarkdown

- Every character on their roster has some sort of direction and will do promos for their character. Sugar Shane Perry, Television Champion, may not be the most interesting character, but he promos and tries to make himself interesting. I realize you guys do a lot of characterization through matches, but doing if we had three guys do a promo per show, it would make things a lot cleaner.

- Their formatting is a lot prettier than ours. Part of this is because they have more time to piece their shows together, while Tom, Chris and I are usually in a rush just to get the shows up, but the fact that you don't have to look at my bandana-ed mug before every match is a plus. Perhaps if we posted the entire show as one big block on the SWF site instead of post after post on the boards, we'd gain a couple points?

- They had a lot of girls on their show. I like girls, being a straight teenage male. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm assuming the judge is like me and also likes girls.

- The show itself builds to a climax. Our shows do this too, but what I mean is that there are storylines within each show that build to a climax on the same show.

- Going back to the formatting, their show is entirely script style. Now, I'm not at all saying that everyone should write script style -- actually, I'd rather you all write prose style, but if there was some sort of consistent writing style throughout the fed it would make it a lot smoother. It would also make marking a lot easier, as it was difficult for me to judge between a script-style match (Danny's) and a prose-style match (Toxxic's)

I think, perhaps, the first part of all that is the most important. We all have a 'matches > promo' bias, but promos help build matches and make them important. We are only 4/5 points off from a top rating. If we just make our shows a little more promo based, we'll be pretty good.

Unless somebody broke the matches/segments up with a line, preferably in color, it'd look exactly like you said...a big block.

If it helps, I'll soon be doing lots of promo featuring a woman, so maybe that'll pop the ratings. Toxxic: "Not bloody likely".

Then again, I personally don't see why we should have to change our style to fit in with other feds, when we are clearly different from every single one of them. The problem isn't that we're unoriginal. It's that we're 'too original'. Our shows are completely different to every single show put up. The low rating is probably because are matches are too long for whoever's giving ratings to read through without losing his attention span.

Maybe it's because I've never seen the benefit of this X-Net place...but I don't see the point in us changing how we do things to fit in with a fed-list that we won't fit in with, unless we become an RP fed like every other.

Come on Landon. We might as well give the pregnancy angle a shot here.

For what it's worth, I think there'll be at least one Toxxic promo on most shows for the near future. I can see you all holding your heads in your hands, but hey, maybe the marker isn't sick of me yet?

I think the greatest benefit we get from it is a drive to do better and innovate. At least, that's how I took it when we first tried looking into this sort of stuff. We get a 'fairly' unbiased look at our shows, and the rating is a decent way of looking at us. I honestly agree with a few of those points on Mike's analysis, and I think we lose that unbiased perspective when we don't do stuff like this.
