Brush with Greatness Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 So has UFC officially moved all their PPV's to Saturday nights now or what? When was the last time they ran a Friday show. It must have been almost a year back. It seemed like they were always Friday's for awhile. Anyone care to enlighten me on this logic.

The last show that was a Friday night was UFC 50: The War of '04 in October since I remember driving up to Atlantic City on a Friday after my classes. UFC 51 was the day before the Superbowl like last year with UFC 46, and I guess they liked Saturday better because UFC 52 is a Saturday and I believe UFC 53 is going to be a Saturday too...
AboveAverage484 Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 Looks like the matches to be shown on PPV are: Couture vs. Liddell Hughes vs. Trigg Lindland vs. Lutter St. Pierre vs. Miller Bablu vs. Wiuff is the swing match, meaning if time permits the fight will be show. As for the rest, it depends on how much time is left, but based on past UFC's I'll have to say one of the other matches will be shown, probably Riggs vs. Salaverry (WAR SALAVERRY!!!). It seems Andrei Arlovski has an opponent for his first title defense and it's none other than... ...Justin Eilers. My only assumption is that everyone else turned the fight down except him. I was hoping for Ricco Rodriguez but what the hell, at least Arlovski gets a squash match for his first defense.

As mentioned, I hope to score tickets to the show, and was really looking forward to seeing Mir vs. Arlovski, but the last main event I went to got downgraded so I geuss the trend continues. Franklin vs. Tanner for the Middleweight belt will be on the show too. Hopefully that's the main event. At least a couple of title will be up for stake. I think Franklin can take Tanner, I'd really love to see either one against Sakuraba, but I don't see that happening anytime in the next millenium.

Please tell it's not a sucker card or at least bullshit for my own reassurance. Oh and Murray's fight isn't going to be shown?

Couture vs. Liddell, St. Pierre vs. Miller, and Hughes vs. Trigg should all be big fights. Lindlands fights typically are bathroom breaks, but depending on the type of opponent, that may change. In Canada the PPV is 29.99

the pinjockey Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 They have to allow 25 minutes of match time for each title match (5 5 minute rounds instead of 3), so between hype packages, entrances and intross they will leave about 40-45 minutes for each of those matches. That can suck up the time quick. Unless everything runs ridiculously long they will show the Babalu fight and maybe one of the other fights if a couple fights end quick.

I would like to see Miller fight again, against someone not in the elite class. He obviously has a chin and has good cardio as he was still throwing sub attempts in the last minute. As for St. Pierre, I want St.Pierre-Hughes II now.

He can't use the "I didn't see the knee" excuse considering he distinctly says "watch the knee" immediately after it's thrown.

St. Pierre is the fucking MAN. I hyped everyone in the room for him and then he delivered. After that fight, everyone was a Rush fan. Couture got knocked out. I am still in awe. Liddell on top is so good for the division, though. Think of the rematches, think of the matches. You know Bonnar/Griffin vs. Liddell would be much better than Griffin/Bonnar vs. Couture. When all the celebrities were saying "Randy" I knew Liddell was going to win. It's a curse! I have to watch Hughes/Trigg again, because so many people are saying FOTN and are ignoring the awesome GSP performance.

It is just hard to put that as FOTN when it was one sided domination compared to the incredible back and forth drama of Hughes/Trigg. You need two to tango to make a FOTN. Also, whoever decided to put a microphone in front of Andrei Arlovski needs to be fired immediately. If you know your champion can not speak english don't make him other than the "Who's Next" type comments. Although he did look quite the pimp in that suit. I did like the preview for 53 being built around him fighting like that is an event unto itself as opposed to hyping Arlovski/Eilers and making people wonder why Eilers is getting a shot.

Just because of how close he apparently seemed to coming to getting knocked out, and then finally pulling off the rear naked choke for the win, after he couldn't finish him off the first time in that position. Maybe we were just more into it because he's a fellow Manitoban.

Rogan also came off like a douche the way he was riding Miller's nuts the whole fight. Miller's corner yelling "retard strength" made the night though. Hughes calling out Lindland was cool as well.

Miller did a fucking kip-up, that alone makes it amazing. And I think people are over-stating the one-sidedness of it. Was St. Pierre in any real trouble? Not really. Did Miller just lay down and die? Fuck no. It was competitive to the point where anything could happen and there were a ton of fun sequences.
