Epic Reine Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 A smart mark wrestler. What do you think? You can debut some new guy with a manager and have him win a couple matches and then he goes to the locker room and his manager insults him on his selling, psychlogy, offense etc. and have the manager berate him in every match yelling at him using smark terms. He can also insult other wrestlers like him having a backstage confrontation with someone like Flair and have him or the manager saying "Look at you, you can't even bump properly anymore and your selling is totally abyssmal!" It could be a great way to gain heat.
Some Guy Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 That was what Dean Douglas was supposed to be and it didn't work.
Guest bigm350 Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 The majority of the WWE audience probably wouldn't understand or know the gimmick. Even if they did, it still would be a lousy gimmick.
Spaceman Spiff Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 Even if a gimmick like that ever made it on TV, they'd just have the guy lose all the time as a way to say "ha ha, 13 year-old internet losers!". The guy'd be Simon Dean w/ a worse w/l record.
Fuzzy Dunlop Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 We had this discussion a couple years ago. It was like the exact same thread, and everyone was saying it should be Val Venis's new gimmick when he got traded to RAW.
benoit4hor Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 Why stop there he could go own to insult members of popular wrestling forums, such as this. He could cut promo's on the TSM posters.
tbondrage99 Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 Wow this is the greatest idea ever! Whatever wrestler is lucky enough to land this will be as big as Hogan, Austin or The Rock ever were!
TheFranchise Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 I'd laugh if someone like Eugene totally changed their character and did this. Or, I wouldn't.
Precious Roy Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 Something like this might work in ROH, but even that's a stretch, it's too overt the way it's outlined here, you've got way too much shit going on. Stuff like Foley disowning hardcore wrestling and Steve Corino's "King of Old School" gimmick work because they were simple, subtle jabs at wrestling purists. Throwing out a bunch of smart terms without logic just to be hip reaches Russo levels of retardo booking. Though I must say, the idea of a prelim guy who's cocky as shit and brags about how well he makes his opponents look has some comedic possibilities, just not with the breaking of kayfabe....
claydude14 Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 They should just have a new Superstar line and have the host's gimmick be he always cuts backstage promos promoting his hotline, and then one time we watch a Superstar call (Matt Hardy) and he hears that his girlfriend (Lita) has been cheating on him with feces (Edge). So then Hardy or Edge or Lita could beat his ass pointlessly to promote the hotline and start a feud.
Ace309 Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 This gets suggested every now and again. The general consensus is that it would confuse casual fans and mildly irritate smart marks. No up side.
Open the Muggy Gate Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 It's a gimmick that's been before and didn't work.... which probably means they will bring it back and name the character Keith Scott or something like that....
justcoz Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 I always thought WWE had a chance to really poke fun at smarks by making their idiot savant, Eugene, have some smark tendencies.
Art Sandusky Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 Batista should work one little smart jab at someone each week on Raw. That's the most I'd want to see of it.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 With all the pretty yellow flowers growing in Death Valley..they should turn the Undertaker into a wrestling Florist... ... That wouldn't nearly be as bad as the above idea.
SuperJerk Posted March 29, 2005 Report Posted March 29, 2005 Yes, is shitty, this idea. Even Yoda agrees.
