More great stuff from Bill Simmons as he discusses the MVP race

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story...ns/050408&num=0

He could kiss my ass around about the line dissing Rick Brunson. Fuck that.

Oh and any discussion of MVP with Steve Nash not being in the top two is worthless. Him and Shaq should be the only discussion. And seeing as the heat won 42 games last year and the suns won, what...25 I think that the love has to go over to Nash.

Wade deserves more MVP hype than Shaq. Not to take away any difference that Shaq has made for the Heat, because it's been noticeable and obviously one of the bigger difference makers of the offseason moves, but I think Wade's improved to the point where he makes the difference in making them among the league's better teams in terms of records.

By that same token, do you think T.O. deserved MVP hype for the Eagles last year?

Did the Eagles greatly improve with TO or pretty much stayed successful like they were the previous 4 years?

TO put up some impressive numbers yes, but that is a completely different arguement. The Heat have the number 2 record in the NBA. The Heat are greatly improved over last year. The heat made ONE major move in the offseason. That one move is what made them better. Shaq is that move.

Man, who knew that when the Pacers played Cleveland, Chicago and Washington in April that those games would all have a huge bearing on playoff positioning.

Also, with the Lakers' elimination from the playoffs this year, that means the Pacers are now tied with the Spurs for the longest active streak of playoff appearences with 8.

Watching my Warriors play the Suns and this has been a great game. The Warriors just pulled off a great comeback to win their 8th in a row. The Arena was a sellout plus 500 standing room only. The last four minutes the fans were on their feet as the atmosphere was electric. Baron Davis was a godsend, as he has revitalized this franchise. I am very happy that my team is playing to a high level. Right now I feel the Warriors record does not reflect how this team is playing the best basketball right now, IMO. Shame they won't make the playoffs, but this has been fun to watch them beat many playoff teams down the stretch. Here is to the momentum carrying over to next season.

Baron Davis is too fucking good. If they would've had him in the beginning of the season, they would've been playing for the 6th spot.

Go Warriors.

Well if the Warriors make the playoffs next year whos left out? I think it will be Seattle. The rest of the playoff teams will be back. They currently only have 4 players under contract for next season including Rashard Lewis. If the cant bring back Ray Allen they could be one and done. Also Nate McMillan is a lame duck coach so everthing there is pretty unstable.

It looks to me that no one is safe in the first round. Well, maybe Miami will have an easier opponent but Phoenix will have to play Memphis or Denver and San Antonio faces the other.

yeah the middle-tier teams in both conferences are so close together, i can see some upsets happening. i'll be happy if chicago and indiana both move up to Miami's side of the bracket, as I feel those two and boston are the dangerous middle teams for detroit (I feel they've had washington's number all year so that wont be a problem).

I would have to say that Denver is playing the best basketball right about now. They've only lost two games since the All-Star Game and I wouldn't want to face them in a playoff series.

Shaq's taking some time off before the playoffs since they're going to have homecourt advantage, I just hope they don't start losing games going into the playoffs because that's now is the time when you want to catch fire.

Too bad Minnesota's not going to the playoffs this year. What's wrong with them anyway? I saw some of the game last night and their defense sucked down the stretch. It's hard to believe that they were contending for a championship a year ago.

The Cavaliers are about to slide right out of the playoffs and it's a damn shame. What happened to them?

One more thing, Grant Hill is my most improved player of the year.

I say Grant Hill because he was a big part of the Magic's success and he made the All-Star team this year. Who is Bobby Simmons? The first person that popped into my head was ESPN.com's Page 2 writer.

I will let Bill Simmons tell you who Bobby Simmons is

Bobby Simmons

Heart and soul of a Clippers team that could have won 45-50 games had they stayed healthy and/or Elgin Baylor realized you could make trades during the season. When they screw up and allow him to sign with a contender this summer – where he'll thrive, by the way, because he's a good guy and the ultimate fifth banana – I'm declaring war on Elgin, Donald Sterling and the entire Clippers franchise. I'm going to be like Stallone in "First Blood," when he has the knife to Brian Dennehy's throat: "You want a war? I'll give you a war you wouldn't believe."
