KingPK 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2005 No they didn't. They're facing every '04 AFC playoff team, I believe (Indy, Pittsburgh, SD, Denver, and NY Jets). Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted April 13, 2005 No excuse to lose the NFC North division title this year, really. On paper, they look like the strongest team in the NFC. And with the exception of Pittsburgh and maybe Baltimore and Carolina, those games are all very, very winnable. Doubt them being the strongest team in the NFC. I'd like to see what Culpepper does without Moss, and Tice will blow a couple games coaching-wise. Culpepper did absolutely fine without Moss, and don't forget Minnesota will have their pick between Mike Williams and Braylon Edwards in the upcoming draft. therealworldschampion 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2005 Culpepper did absolutely fine without Moss, and don't forget Minnesota will have their pick between Mike Williams and Braylon Edwards in the upcoming draft. Why do I get the feeling that Edwards is going to be a bust thanks to the history of Michigan WRs in the NFL? Remember Desmond Howard and David Terrell? Tice will find a way to blow a couple of games, I think a 5 year old might be able to outcoach him...

Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2005 Minnesota's defensive pickups are overrated I think, they have a bunch of "star" players, but how they gel together and whether or not they can perform entering the twilight of their career is another story. Don't expect Darren Sharper to be the Darren Sharper of old, Sam Cowart has had many injuries and isn't really the same player he was back in Buffalo all those years ago. Yeah, I think they are being way overhyped, and I also think that when people talk about how they did fine without Moss when he was injured, that they don't realize that they played easier competition, and that he's one of the best if not the best big game receiver in the league. You can't replace a Randy Moss. Most people don't realize this year was the first time he missed a game. I don't know how well Oakland will do, but I would guess it will be another KC Chiefs from last year, high powered offense with not much defense. Black Lushus, I'm always optimistic about the Bills, and when you're in the AFC East you always get four tough ones with the Jets and the Pats, but I can easily see both of those series being split at worst, due to the Pats declining, and the Jets being about even with us. Add to that the Bills are probably gonna get a good draft pick or O-line pickup at least for Travis Henry, and this is a team to watch out for in 2005. At least Gregg Williams isn't coaching anymore. For Dama; of course we can't see any of those teams losing to the Eagles based on last year, but there's always some surprises, not to mention a variety of factors that lend to the Eagles at least dropping two or three games. A pretty good run of road games to start the year; at Pitt, at Carolina, at Atlanta at Denver (which I'm surprised wasn't at least a Sunday night game, because I've heard a lot of interest about how the Pats would fare with Vick). Then there's the usual embarassment of Peyton, and it seems like all the divisional games are in the second half of the season. A pretty tough schedule all around and with all the changes the Pats will go through this year, I'll say 13-3 or 12-4 That's a pretty tough schedule. Non-conference we've got Indy AGAIN, Pitt, SD, ATL, Oakland, C-Line, Denver, KC, New Orleans and Tampa. No pushovers, but we should win 7 or 8 out of the 10. Pretty good schedule with the likes of Miami, San Fran, Cleveland, Oakland and Arizona, i had them pegged for a rebound year after injuries killed last season, but that was before they released half the team. 5 wins is probably the ceiling for the team in a difficult division, 3-13 and a #1 or 2 draft pick is my expectation. I see them losing one of the games between KC and Denver, and being that Plummer owns the Eagles I am leaning that way. I'll go with the loss at St. Louis just because by this point they begin to coast and I think Steven Jackson goes off on them. And I picked one division game, because they will not sweep the division again this year and I think Washington and NY blow so I'll give Dallas their home game. Especially now with Dallas going to the 3-4, I think that will let them steal the first game before the Eagles can adjust for the second game.

They'll split with the Packers and Vikings (who are going to disappoint people), lose to the Falcons and Steelers, and have two classic dumb Bears losses to penalties, turnovers, and poor special teams. As much as I'd love to agree with you, Lushus, I just don't see how the Pats can get there again. Losing their two coordinators, plus the defensive on-field general in Bruschi, will be just too difficult to overcome. For the first time in a few years, they'll be reliant on other teams helping them out (e.g. underdogs upsetting favorites in either the Wild Card round or the 2nd & 3rd round of the playoffs). And I still think teams will be gunning for them, playing above their norm, so to speak.

I've been able to correctly predict Green Bay's W-L record with about a 1 or 2 game margin of error the past few years, and I usually pick them to go somewhere between 10-6 and 12-4. This year with Minnesota's upgrades and Green Bay being very thin on defense, I don't expect them to do any better than they did last year, but no worse than 7-9. I think having Favre around can at least power them to .500 by the end of the year, though. The one thing I like about this schedule is that there's no ridiculously extended and harsh road trips like last year (not like homefield advantage means anything anymore... hope that changes this upcoming season), and with the exception of the Moss-less Vikings, the inconsistent Saints and Seahawks, and obviously Philly, the schedule is loaded with great defenses and shitty offenses, which obviously helps the Pack's chances since their strength relies primarily on offense. Here's hoping to a Green Bay-Indianapolis Super Bowl if I want a championship this year. Oh, and avoiding a playoff game in Philly would be nice, too. Getting revenge on Atlanta on their home turf for the disaster at Lambeau in the `02 playoffs would be sweet also. Amen, brother. Amen. GO PACK GO!
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted April 14, 2005 I think the Bears are going to surprise people. Everyone's going to be healthy and hungry come the start of the season. YPOV hit the nail on the head about the Vikings. The Pack has been dismantled through the offseason, and Detroit is a team of chronic underachievers always on the cusp of turning the corner. The NFC North is a crapshoot I tell ya. Chicago's also guaranteed an offensive star with the 4th pick in the draft. I said it last year that all the Bears needed was an offensive line and some good receivers to climb their way back up. They had a ridiculous amount of injuries, but the NFC North is going to be a tough division.. Green Bay hasn't lost THAT much, with the key exception being Sharper, who apparently from what I've been reading recently fell out of favor with his declining play the past couple seasons, so that would explain why they didn't seem to have much of a problem letting him go. I thought it was going to be disastrous, but he'll give much needed leadership skill to the revamped Viking defense. Losing Wahle and Rivera, but re-signing Ruegamer and signing Adrian Klemm from the Patriots and Matt O'Dwyer from the Bucs will help them plug the holes. Preferably it'll be Ruegamer and Klemm- O'Dwyer could make a good backup, though. As always, I'm more concerned with Green Bay's defense rather than their offense.. With Favre/Walker/Driver/Green/Franks, no reason to worry. I only hope that the new GM in place could draft some immediate impact starters, having 3 of the first 58 picks, they have a chance to do so. No one in the NFC North will end up with more than 10 wins or less than 6-7 losses. They really are that close.
packwingfn 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2005 Like Vitamin said, As long as Green stays healthy and doesn't fumble and force the game in Favre's hand, Our offense is probably one of the best in the NFC but our defense is defnitely the worst in the NFL. So I'm not looking foward to this year. Why so many 4 o clock games? I'll have to make sure I'm workin in the morning now. EDIT: Found the answer "As exemplified by the four primetime night appearances, Brett Favre and the Packers are one of the biggest television drawing cards in the NFL today. Along those lines, eight of the final nine games on the Green Bay schedule in 2005 will be broadcast nationally. For those reasons, just five of the team's 16 games will have kick off at noon (CT) on a Sunday" NICE, so unless the Giants or Patriots are playing at 4 on those weeks, I should be able to see at least 12 of the Packers games. (live or taped), and it also depends if I can get to the local restaurant which has the NFL package for the non-nationally televised games
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2005 Awesome that so many Packers games will be on TV. Looking at the schedule, I'd say that Green Bay has a chance to go 10-6 or 11-5 if they stay healthy and play up to their potential. The team may not be as good as in years past, but the schedule's not that strong this year either.
