Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2005 Communism hasn't worked because people were put on a pedastal as the ones the people worshipped. Religious socieities that have sort of used a socialist/communist way of running themselves have worked fine because they put God at the centre. Nobody treats themselves as bigger than anyone else, so there is no dictator. An order of Franciscan Priests for example, used to all take whatever money they earned, regardless of who earned more, and they all shared it equally, also giving a large amount to the poor. That's a form of communism, and that doesn't sound too evil to me.
Jingus 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2005 Communism hasn't worked simply because it's proven, time and again, that it doesn't work. There hasn't been one successful communist country, ever. Every single one of them has either collapsed economically or been overthrown by enraged mobs of revolting citizens. When the best example of a working model you can provide is fucking Cuba, it's time to give it up as a system of government.
Guest MikeSC Report post Posted April 27, 2005 The left has always had a double standard when it comes to Communism. Can you imagine the hell if somebody wore, say, a Goering T-shirt? But a Che Guevera one is KEWL! In spite of there not being one iota of difference in both men's view on the world. -=Mike
BUTT 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2005 And who exactly do you mean by "the left"? People like John Kerry and Hillary Clinton are not embracing Che Guevara. Most of the people who wear those shirts are dumb fuck college kids who learned everything they know about politics from Rage Against the Machine.
Guest MikeSC Report post Posted April 27, 2005 And who exactly do you mean by "the left"? People like John Kerry and Hillary Clinton are not embracing Che Guevara. If you have missed the litany of Che T-shirts sold at major retailers and worn by moronic college students who have the intellect of Spam, then you have tried to miss them. Most of the people who wear those shirts are dumb fuck college kids who learned everything they know about politics from Rage Against the Machine. And you don't hear the left utter one word about it. If a store sold, say, a Goering T-shirt, there would be mass protests. And rightfully so. -=Mike

Special K 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2005 And you don't hear the left utter one word about it. Actually the Seattle Times just had a big fat article about Che Guevera T's. And you don't hear righties talking about bombing abortion clinics and 'God hates fags' (ok maybe a couple) why? MAYBE THEY DON'T WANT TO TIE THEMSELVES TO STUPID BEHAVIOUR. Shit, people will by anything that just looks sorta cool. Andre the Giant has a posse proved that beyond a shadow of a doubt.

You don't see "God hates fags" as being a T-shirt with any coolness behind it. That Che is cool at all is a sign of some serious social problems. You don't see anti-abortionists getting absurd movies like "The Motorcycle Diaries" made about them. You don't see psychotic conservatives actually proclaiming how great those assorted tools are. -=Mike

Guest MikeSC Report post Posted April 27, 2005 And I don't hear politicians talk about che guevera. You don't hear a single complaint about major retailers selling it. They'll criticize video games. They'll criticize movies. They even criticized Charles Manson T-shirts. But the T-shirt of a thug like Che? Not a syllable. -=Mike

Reality time: Government food rations today give the people less food than Cuban SLAVES ate in 1862. The Soviets gave Cuba the equivalent of SEVERAL Marshall plans over the years and the only person who has made money is Castro (worth, roughly, $550M --- which makes the compensation of Summer Redstone of Viacom seem downright sane) -=Mike

BUTT 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2005 What I said was that if the ideals happened, without all the bad stuff and atrocities and killings and walls and so on that always happen instead, it would be a pretty pleasant time for all. I would like to know what could possibly be good about communism. Even if you take away the violence, you still have a nation of citizens with their rights stripped away who have no hope of economic advancement. We deserve to live in a country where one is rewarded for their hard work and not just seen as a cog in the machine. Of course, this is quite prevalent in America, but there is a chance to move out of it, even for the poorest members of society. Plus, communism (in it's "pure" form without violence) doesn't have many practical purposes for the government as the workers would be so demoralized that their productivity would be incredibly low. BUTT 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2005 I find it ironic that Che shirts are mass-produced and sold in stores. Like, if you're really committed to his "message"..........don't you think he would have been against that?
Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2005 What ever the case, communism does not = freedom. Governent control of industry and agriculture is as much tyranny as government control of what to worship is...wait, isn't that covered by communism, too? Why yes, yes it is. Actually, none of that is covered, because in Communism, there isn't supposed to be a government at all to control those industries or religions. It just winds up being, however, that people can't resist power or letting it go, and Communist governments and dictatorships appear.
