A lot of this is stuff that has been previously released on DVD or rehashed over and over, but man this looks like it could very well rival the Flair set for best DVD set yet. I just watched that Piper vs Valentine Dog Collar match last night, and it's awesome. Hulk Hogan vs Mr. T must be the WM 1 Main Event, just misprinted.

Looks like a bunch of recycled stuff from previous DVDs and releases on VHS. The only thing that I haven't seen is the Lawler/KVE Match. (thats on the cover, that is)

That's a tremendous lineup of matches, assuming they all make it into the final product.

So long as the price drops down a bit ($35 is a bit steep - I'd prefer at least 5 bucks less), this'll definitely be a pickup for me.

Why do they have the "Word Life" logo in the mid of the DVD.

Because it's supposed to be classic I guess, and they can't uise the WWF name anymore for marketing purposes.

Ironically I believe thats a 1992 photo of Flair.

However so what if they are previously released on some matches, that small sample of matches is a good collection of matches and thats hardly all of them, It's Nine hours which means there's a good chunk of matches remaining.

I love how its split with nwa, wwf and awa stuff. I'll be interested in seeing those other matches but it appears they are actually using legit major matches on this dvd which means you can expect Hogan/Andre WMIII to be on this collection as well.

I always thought the old block logo was allowed, since that logo wasn't part of the agreement with the WWF (the only logo not allowed is the scratch logo) and has been used without blurring on every match using it on recent DVD releases.

weird, because I"ve seen the old block WWF logo being used alot sence WWF>WWE.

ya i thought it was just the attitude logo they couldn't use.

Maybe they are pretending the company was never called the WWF.

Hulk Hogan vs. Mr. T

Wrestlemania I Main Event

Is this a DVD of wrestling matches from an alternate reality or something?

Just like most of the special WWE DVD releases, I'll be picking this one up also.

...weird you mention alternate realities almost IMMEDIATELY after I watched Enterprise...which was set entirely in an alternate dimension

$34.95 is the SRP, so it will probably be $20 - $25 during the first week of release. Unless you get your DVDs at a place like Suncoast, you shouldn't have to pay more than $30.

It does have workrate covered with Savage/Steamboat however. I'm already sold on the dvd because I love all those matches so far announced.

I'm shocked it's a "serious" dvd, i was expecting an all WWF mid 1980's dvd cluttered with Hogan stuff but they really mixed it up.

I'm guessing we'll get a 2-3 hour feature to go along with the matches. THAT might be worth watching even if most of us have already seen the matches themselves.

And if they're including guys from AWA, WCCW, NWA, AWA, etc in the matches - the feature should be pretty impressive.

This is more of a DVD for the old school marks who grew up watching Flair, Hogan, Piper, Snuka, etc. and aren't entirely workrate-intensive.

You just described me in a nut shell... my problem is that I own everything presented so far

Frankly, I'd rather have the WM Legacy collection on DVD with some extra features.

Me too . . . do you think we'll EVER be that lucky?

I'd even settle for it if they'd release the old WM's one or two at a time, a la the "Tagged Classics" from the UK.

The extras alone for each DVD could make them worth the purchase.

<----wants a copy of WrestleMania with all the buildup as extras.

Sometimes I wonder if releasing the old Wrestlemanias on DVD would be more trouble than it's worth. In addition to all the editing that has to be done, I believe they also have to pay royalties to all the wrestlers featured on the DVDs. With a specialty DVD like the Flair set, this has a practical purpose because featuring Flair's matches with the likes of Harley Race and Dusty Rhodes can be used as a selling point. With the WMs, is it worth shelling out royalty fees to guys like SD Jones and Buddy Rose when nobody would buy the set to see them? In addition to the fact that they would have to also edit Jesse's commentary off of WMs 1-6 or pay him a large fee, because he's not the kind who would settle for the chump change they offer some of these guys.

Actually, Im pretty sure at some point last year, after the announcment of 24/7, and the success of DVD sales, WWE made an effort to track down a vast majority of the workers featured prominently on old shows and what not, and sent them a fairly generous check, along with a contract waiving their right to sue over royalties.

Didn't they go around offering contracts or something similar to former wrestlers and their familes for their likeness for the 24/7 channel? or was that just for select names?

Posted

I believe they did offer several of the older stars a fairly good "up front" check for royalties on any upcoming projects. Plus, Jesse's commentary only has to be edited from WCW matches, or any WWF matches that have never been released on home video in the past. They came to a mutual agreement sometime in the last couple of years that has made the WWF stuff "OK" (don't know why they couldn't agree on WCW stuff). The only editing I can see for WM's 1-13 would be any spoken references of the initials "WWF", which are honestly few and far between. It was almost always spoken out as World Wrestling Federation by announcers and wrestlers alike. WM 14 was the rather humble beginning of the new WWF scratch logo, and WM's 15-21 are already on DVD, so they wouldn't need to be re-released. They've got to know there is a demand for this stuff on DVD, so I'm sure it'll happen sometime . . . won't it? Please?

I realise that somebody says this for *every* new DVD cover and *every* future pay-per-view poster, but I feel it has to be said here....

Is it possible this is a photoshopped fake? It just seems the Hulk Hogan vs Mr T error and cover (reusing the Flair picture from the Ultimate Ric Flair Collection and the Sgt Slaughter picture from the Hall of Fame DVD? only four superstars on the cover?) don't seem very WWE-like to me.

It's available here, as mentioned above:

The ad is probably something thrown together quickly, so the cover could change. If it is a fake, then that does not mean that the DVD is fake...it's available for pre-order now...

sman, where did you find this ad?

Guest LooneyTune

If it's a fake, it could be just a quick thrown-together cover to get something out (as mentioned), and the error with Hogan vs. Mr. T could be because the person who made the advertisement is a complete idiot.

Easy solutions to all the questions.
