Yep. Most of the Star Destroyers have names. The only one I actually remember being named in the movies though is the Avenger (Needa's Star Destroyer in ESB). The Devastator is one of the more well known ones.

I don't remember Executor ever being named on film though. They always call it Super Star Destroyer or Vader's ship. The Avenger certainly is.

I knew some ships had names, but not that particular one. I was thinking of the World Devastators used on Mon Calimari during the EU Jedi Academy Trilogy when you first said "Devastator." The Sun Crusher sounded neat too, if you want to talk EU.

Eh, I'm going back to the EU again, sorry. Anyway, the ships all have names, they're just not referred to by such in the movies. The Imperials seem to have a stranglehold on the dark, intimidating names (e.g. Executor, Agonizer, Accuser, etc.) while from what I remember the Rebels go more for names of famous battle sites.

Well, at least in the DVD, it seems like they have the same idea at the same time, but Greedo was slightly quicker due to not having to move the gun ever so slightly.

 

That's my take on the recent stuff.

 

Personally? As long as Greedo stayed fried, he could have shot first or not at all, I wouldn't care either way.

Just got back from ROTS and something hit me, I don't know why, maybe because I've been thinking about my High School days recently or what, but is it me, or does the Prequel Trilogy seem very much like a standard Shakespearean tragedy? Think about it most of the main characters in the PT die or are forever changed, evil turns are made by making choices with good intentions, tragic flaws lead to epic downfalls, ect

 

I don't know, maybe just too much Shakespeare on the brain...

1) Han shooting first defines the character of Han Solo as a quick thinker in tight situations, Greedo shooting first just makes it seem that he is a lucky bastard

 

2) It hit me watching the DVDs, but there is a scene in Jedi, not sure if this was meant AS a call back, but when Han is hovering over a supposedly injured Leia at the bunker enterance, a Trooper is about to arrest them, Han sees Leia is playing possum and has a blaster ready and they share another "I love you." "I know." moment, instantly making Han realize that Leia has his way of thinking. Not sure if that was meant as a call back to Han shooting first, but it did give me a bit of a call back vibe

Lucas and Shakespeare both are playing on general storytelling/mythological themes, I'd wager. Though, surprisingly even to me, I know little of Shakespeare.

When I was watching ROTS I definatly got some Shakesperian vives, I've been studying Othello recently and there are definatly some parallels to it in ROTS.

Iago is like Palpatine, convincing Othello/Anakin to do something horrible. Anakin kills Padme out of anger, just like Othello with Desdemona. That's all I can think of right now.

Actually, and I forget where I read this exactly, Greedo was SUPOSED to shoot first in the first place, but miss when Ben, still in the cantina, uses the Force to mess up his aim. THEN Han blasts him.

It was filmed this was, too, but they went for Han shooting first instead.

 

So technically, now it's been fixed to the way it should have been, minus the footage of Ben, whihc was probably lost.

Speaking of Greedo, I watched Episode I a few days ago and there was a deleted scene that I thought should have been included in the movie.

 

Anakin gets into a fight with Greedo, which is soon broken up by Qui-Gon. It turns out that Anakin attacked Greedo because he accused Anakin of cheating. As Qui-Gon and Anakin walk away, Greedo goes over to his friend, who warns him "keep this up, Greedo, and you'll come to a bad end."

I've only seen the re-done Greedo/Solo bit on the DVD's like, once.

 

So someone correct me if I'm wrong, but...don't they make Han Solo's whole head move like, an inch to the left, as if he's dodging the shot? I seem to recall that, and thinking "wow, that looks hideous"", not because Greedo shot first, but because Han's head magically moved to the left or whatever even though his facial expression doesn't change in the slightest. It just looked really un-natural.

Yeah it was the awkward way Han moves in the new version that makes the scene so goofy. I mean Greedo has him point blank and would MISS?

 

By the way, I thought that might be Greedo or one of his relatives in Ep. 1. Glad someone clarified that.
