Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2005 I actually want to start an ECW chant during the Palpatine/Yoda fight. It'd be fitting. By the way, I forgot to do this. That was my first thought when Yoda took the huge bump.
ChrisMWaters 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2005 I actually want to start an ECW chant during the Palpatine/Yoda fight. It'd be fitting. By the way, I forgot to do this. That was my first thought when Yoda took the huge bump. When he did that, I chanted softly (due to being with my family who are not wrestling fans) "He's Hardcore...he's hardcore"
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2005 Yoda was straight gangsta when him and Obi-Wan were re-entering the Jedi Temple. SO badass. Yoda taking of the heads of the two clone assassains in such a ho hum matter was awesome. Almost like, you two clowns think I don't see your sorry asses. DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2005 Obi-Wan's R-Unit getting assaulted being met with Obi-Wan giving a 3P0 like "Oh my" got a chuckle from me. R2 also continued being awesome... you just can't get tired of that robotic yell.
ChrisMWaters 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2005 Venkman: Of course, if it was up to some of the people who worked on Ep II...R4 would probably have been destroyed on Geonosis.
pochorenella 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2005 Ok, finally got to see it twice in a 24 hour span. Gotta say, loved it on first viewing, loved it even more on second. Probably will be catching it at least one more time in the near future. That last hour or so of the movie was absolutely top notch stuff, and I have to say that, at least in my mind, George Lucas has redeemed himself on this last chapter after a couple of misfires, although I do like EpsI and II. Still, no question this is the best of the new trilogy and I would rank it tying in third place with ROTJ in my list. ANH remains my favorite no matter what, even if ESB is a much better movie. Like many people here have said, I loved when Yoda and Obi-Wan fought the clone troopers to get into the Jeid Council building. Yoda totally kicked BUTT there. Also, I was totally marking out for the Anakin vs Obi-Wan duel in Mustafar. Such great sense of drama and emotion, not to mention the great swordfighting displayed. My rating? ***** all the way, no doubt. I also read the graphic novel (finally!) after watching the movies, so did anyone realize that Yoda was having a conversation with Qui-Gon Jinn at the end of the movie before Senator Organa called to him? And what about Mon-Mothma no-showing in the movie? She's on the comic interacting with Organa and Padme. I have a question: What's the truth regarding Jedi Master Syfo-Dias (sp?) and he asking the people of Kamino for the clones? Do you think whomever created the clone Army already implanted the knowledge for Order 66 on them? Or was the order given later to be obeyed in the future? It seems kinda odd that the troopers where all buddy-buddy with the Jedi before - Commander Cody even returned Obi-Wan's light-saber to him just seconds before the order. SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2005 One more thought... Anyone get the feeling that Palpatine/Sideous was Darth Plagius' apprentice? I mean 1)How else would Palpatine know the story so well and 2)Notice the smirk when he's telling the stor to Anakin. He admitted it, didn't he?
Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2005 And what about Mon-Mothma no-showing in the movie? She's on the comic interacting with Organa and Padme. Yeah, I thought she was supposed to be in the movie, too. I think she may have been in the funeral procession for Padme for a split second, much like Tarkin was there for a quick glimpse, but I could be wrong. Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2005 Horrible Idea: Casual scenes of Darth Vader. As Palpatine encourages Vader to date women from time to time. "Hello.. baby.. how.. are.. you.. tonight?" Of course, I would presume that Darth Vader cannot have sex. how exactly does Darth Vader eat? does he take it in liquid form, or does he have some way to get it to his mouth? Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted May 22, 2005 I saw ROTS again earlier this afternoon. Even though I knew what was going to happen, I was still drawn in by the movie, especially the last half. After watching all six movies in the past three days, R2-D2 has become one of my favorite characters. R2 zapping the Super Battle Droid, then getting kicked to the ground in response was great. R2 temporarily ignoring Obi-Wan in order to hide was pretty funny as well. Yoda nonchalantly taking out the royal guards in Palpatine's room still makes me laugh. The aftermath of the Obi-Wan vs. Anakin duel is one of my favorite moments in the saga. Obi-Wan saying "You were like my brother. I loved you!" to a helpless Anakin, only to have him shout back "I hate you!" was a pretty emotional and dramatic moment. I loved the ending. Owen and Beru holding the infant Luke while watching the binary sunset (with the familiar theme playing) was the perfect way to end the movie. It made me want to pop in Episode IV as soon as I got home.

Anakin Flair 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2005 someone help me out. What books should I read to fill me in on what happens in the EU after RotJ? And incidently, I wonder how Luke fealt learning that the lightsaber he carried for the first two movies was used to kill dozens of Jedi...

Slayer 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2005 I'm going with the "It's been out for three days and if you haven't seen it yet why are you reading this thread with spoilers galore" philosophy, so skip this post if you're the whiny sort in that regard. I saw it earlier today and decided to let it sink in a bit before making a post. Overall, an allright movie, but it had a sine wave feel to it. Every good thing that happened seemed to have a bad thing happen that negated it. A couple examples: Good: "I am the Senate" (My favorite line of the film) Bad: Palpatine's over-the-top pleading when Mace has him cornered Good: The final saber duels Bad: Anakin's triple-lutz-into-somersault-dive-with-half-twist right before Obi-Wan fucked him up... what the fuck was that? Good: Vader destroying the room upon hearing about Padme Bad: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Overall goods: - Order 66. What more can be said. - Palpatine. Although some of his bits were overdone, he was beyond convincing as the supreme villain. - The end with Owen and Beru on the edge of that pit thingy looking at the dual sunset. Overall bads: - Grevious. I found him corny and weak, plus his voice was distractingly annoying. - Any Padme-Anakin scene. No lessons were learned from Episode 2 apparently - "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" So bad I had to include it twice. I would have gone with just a general "AHHHHHHHHHHHH!" One question (first of many, I imagine, but I can't think of them right now): When Palpatine was getting toasted by his lightning from Mace, was it that his real face was actually getting burned, or was his disguise just getting burnt off? That was his real face getting fucked up. In the book, he says something like "So, now the mask becomes the man." Implying that his burned face was the mask of Sidious, not the face of his true self. cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2005 I'm pretty sure it was meant to be his actual face, with him getting burned up. Anyway, Slayer I agree with most of what you said. The whole Clone Wars aspect of the film seemed like so much filler, mostly a plot device designed to get Yoda and Obi Wan away from Anakin/Sidious so he could be corrupted. Grievous was a really lame heel, and as I said earlier it makes no sense to get rid of a master heel like Christopher Lee so early in the film and replace him with a robotic jobber. I'm telling you, take away Count Dooku from the Separtists and what do you really have? A bunch of loser droids, the fucking Trade Federation, a wheezing Russian robot that's supposed to be leading them but that they themselves don't care about. Dooku was the ONLY one that had any credibility with the audience, hell he was the main heel from the last movie...and he was just offed with little fanfare in the first 15 mins. The NOOOO didn't really bother me, I am a mark for campy NOOOO type scenes. The Padme/Anakin stuff was necessary but the one scene of "You are beautiful," "That's because I'm in love," "Yeah I am in love with you" was kinda goofy. You hit a good point with the "something good, then negated" aspect. I was wrapped up in the intensity of Order 66...and then all of a sudden the Trade Federation dickweeds show up and brings back negative Ep. 1 memories. Or Jar Jar shows up at the funeral, killing what should be a mournful moment by his very appearance. Overall there's a lot of good stuff in this movie but let's not even try to pretend it's the best film in the series.
Agent_Bond34 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2005 This is certainly not the best film in the series, but IMO, it's right up there.
haws bah gawd 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2005 The more I think about it, the more the ending to this film becomes more and more near-perfect, IMO. Seeing Beru carry baby Luke to Owen, as he stood on the hill, watching the Suns go down, in pretty much the same pose as Luke in Ep IV, plus having the same music play, was just fucking awesome. That was a beautiful, and VERY well done scene, and my hat goes off to Lucas for that one. Easily my favorite ending to any movie of the series.
DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2005 Skip this if you're in this thread without having watched the movie yet, please. I'm just remembering now how awesome the camo soldiers looked on the Wookie planet... reminded me of Master Chief. So we're all clear on the "you shouldn't be here if you haven't watched it yet rule"? Good... I'm all up for evil antics in movies but damn if, even off screen, Anakin and the younglings was one of those "damn, I can't believe Lucas went there in a Star Wars film" moments. Where was Lumpy? Based on EU material, can someone fill me in on the fate of the Wookies or how Chewie ended up with Han Solo? The movie seemingly implies that only the one whose name I don't remember off hand and Chewbaca survived Order 66. General Grevious and the 4 lightsabers was an awesome, awesome visual but seemed a bit wasted... granted, there's only so much you can do when it's 4 vs. 1 without having the 4 win. Did anyone else make the tired and cliche joke, either out loud or in your head, "We can rebuild him. We have the technology" for Vader? Was that battle between Obi and Vader awesome or what? Good battle, awesome setting, and the fans go go happy with the face going over while the heel is set up for the biggest gimmick change in the history of the far away galaxy and will get all his heat back in the rematch. I apologize for turning that above description into wrestlign terms, unless you like that sort of thing (many do, it seems - myself included)
