I've just watched RVD/Furnas and RVD/Sabu vs Furnas/Kroffat from ECW and was wondering why the hell didn't WWE push these guys to the moon in WWF from their debut at Survivor Series 96? I mean they lloked good in that match and against Bulldog/Owen at IYH 13 but nothing else ever happened, can aynone fill me in on why?

I don't think they were given a fair shake.

They upset Bulldog & Owen at Survivor Series and had a ton of momentum. Then - nothing. Basically their first non-squash after that was a non-title match loss to Bulldog & Owen the day after the Rumble.

There was a brief push where they were nicknamed "The World's Most Exciting Tag Team". It was sort of like the Lance Storm "Boring" gimmick. I think the WWF just kind of dropped the ball on them and they left. It seemed like the WWF was intentially moving away from old school style wrestlers and tag teams at that point. I'm not sure why they bothered bringing in guys like that, and others like Barry Windham, Steve Williams, the New Midnight Express, etc, if they weren't going to get used properly.

they were turned heel in 97, then dissapeared after I think being on team canada at survivor series? (am I right here?) they were also abck in ecw that uear as part of the wwf invasion, even winnign the tag titles briefly.

I recall the heel turn and the boring gimmick. As I recall, the beat the LOD which was a huge deal... then vanished. Very sad.

I believe they were used as talent exchange with ECW and interfered in the RVD/Dreamer "WWF vs ECW - Winner flys the company flag" match (which is on the RVD DVD)

I love that 30 minute draw with Sabu/RVD, two nutty suplexes off the top, one which Sabu takes like a backdrop driver.... and some awesome taking of Germans by Rob and he get's got by a cobra-clutch suplex, which I've never seen used in the US! Who did Furnas/La Fonn win the titles off and drop them back to, what were the circumstances?

Chris Candido & Lance Storm def. Doug Furnas & Phil Lafon in Philadelphia, PA

Was this any good- I reckon it has potential to be a cracker.....

If I recall correctly (too lazy to find it on my tapes), it was originally scheduled to be Furnas and LaFon vs. Balls Mahoney and Axl Rotten. Candido interjected himself and brought the prospect Storm down and got it made into a three way. I believe Furnas and LaFon were eliminated first (the angle played itself as something of a four on two since neither ECW team wanted to see the ECW tag belts on RAW).

I was a pretty big mark for just about everything ECW did during that time frame, especially the invasion angle, so I probably thought it was pretty good. I guess it depends if you can watch a match with Balls and Axl.

The FBI watch was a fan cam match that lasted 15 seconds with one of the FBI getting mauled with their own flag. It was kind of funny to watch them miraculously survive as champions for two months only to be finally destroyed by another heel team.

I liked the Steiner's tribute double team move they did, where Axl would hoist the victim into an argentinian backbreaker and Ballz would come off the top with an elbow, often causing the opponent to do a 360 oversell... Their best match as a team imo was against Sabu/RVD at Houseparty 99, a total spotfest but I loved it anyway!

Weren't they both in a very serious car accident? I'm 99% sure I have a RAW magazine in my room SOMEWHERE that has an article on the whole ordeal, with pictures of Furnas' head where glass shards had to be dug out.

Yep in the summer of 97 along with Sid and maybe someone else (Scorpio?)

yep, Scorpio. the 4 were traveling in a rental car and got in an accident because Sid, who was driving, was dicking around with the sunroof.

They were going at about 100mph at the time. Not sure why Sid felt that the right time to play with the sun roof was when he was driving at such a high speed, but that's Sid for you.
