Guest wootman Posted May 19, 2005 Report Posted May 19, 2005 I saw this in the latest Pro Wrestling Torch newsletter. I thought it was worth posting. Regarding the new booking committee, one TNA wrestler joked: "That is the whitest, nerdiest, most non-hip, non-getting-laid six guys I can think of. That's a problem, no matter how much they know about wrestling" Also, this is the current booking committee..... The committee that Dixie Carter formed to replace Dusty Rhodes includes Bill Banks, Scott D'Amore, Jeremy Borash, Dutch Mantell, and Mike Tenay. Tenay, the lead announcer for TNA, is a long-time student of the game who has laid low and observed for years what has happened in TNA, and now is said to be excited about trying to correct some of the errors of the past. Banks had previously worked under Vince Russo in both the WWF and WCW. Scott D'Amore and Jeremy Borash have had roles behind the scenes in the past, but never an official co-booking position. Terry Taylor is not on the committee, but he's close to D'Amore. Jerry and Jeff Jarrett are not the committee, but they're close to Borash, Banks, and Mantell. Hmmm, what can be said about that comment? And I wonder who said it? Also, I've noticed that the Torch brand of journalism sometimes comes off to me like girls' gossip in a bathroom at highschool. Just saying.

Hunter's Torn Quad Posted May 19, 2005 Report Posted May 19, 2005 Assuming it's an accurate quote, it sounds like something Konnan would say.
Guest wootman Posted May 19, 2005 Report Posted May 19, 2005 I'm leaning towards Konnan too. But you never know.
Guest Neon Posted May 19, 2005 Report Posted May 19, 2005 It has got to be one of the members of AMW. I can just picture them saying something like that.
Prophet of Mike Zagurski Posted May 19, 2005 Report Posted May 19, 2005 His Lazyness, Kevin Nash, did one of those interviews with Meltzer? and said he was the hippest man on the booking commitee.
Jobber of the Week Posted May 19, 2005 Report Posted May 19, 2005 Yes, the quality of your booking doesn't have as much to do about wrestling knowledge as it does how easy you can get laid. That's why WWE has all the great angles, because 70% of them revolve around sex. I mean, isn't the whole "Edge and Lita making out months after she has sex with Kane while Viscera stalks women and Divas fight over Playboy shoots" thing the best period of wrestling you've ever seen?
AlaskanHero Posted May 19, 2005 Report Posted May 19, 2005 I think what he meant is that the guys were boring and ordinary as people and weren't the kind of people you'd think could book to appeal to the big demographic of 18-25 males.
Guest Desperate Housewife Posted May 19, 2005 Report Posted May 19, 2005 Didn't Dutch Mantell say that the actual demographic of the promotion was men over 35?

Don't forget "The Rapist" Kurt Angle.
Guest Desperate Housewife Posted May 19, 2005 Report Posted May 19, 2005 ATTEMPTED rape The WWE, doesnt do Rape
Placebo Effect Posted May 19, 2005 Report Posted May 19, 2005 Regarding the new booking committee, one TNA wrestler joked: "That is the whitest, nerdiest, most non-hip, non-getting-laid six guys I can think of. Guest frowned Posted May 19, 2005 Report Posted May 19, 2005 His Lazyness, Kevin Nash, did one of those interviews with Meltzer? and said he was the hippest man on the booking commitee. yeah - that comment instantly reminded me of that interview.
Guest Quik Posted May 21, 2005 Report Posted May 21, 2005 It was AJ Styles. He said that right before starting a prayer circle.
Jericho2000Mark Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 I like the idea of Tenay on the booking commitee. Mantell not so much.
Hunter's Torn Quad Posted May 24, 2005 Report Posted May 24, 2005 I probably wouldn't want Mantell to head my booking committee, but I would for sure want him to be part of it. Mantell almost single-handedly turned around the IWA promotion in Puerto Rico and was a major factor in sparking a wrestling war between IWA and WWC that easily rivalled the Monday Night Wars in the US. Anyone who has had that kind of success is someone you want on your team.
