Guest DVD Spree Report post Posted May 20, 2005 Well, it comes up periodically and, like the last time I remember it being posted, I'm doing it becuase I'm bored. But it's been a year, there are a lot of student-types here, and I've started talking to whole new bunch of TSMers recently, so I was just wondering what everyone finds themself doing for an occupatoin these days. Feel free to ignore if you're sick of this topic coming up yet again. Me: Working for an Xbox magazine in the UK, doing loads of freelance for DVD mags and geenrally getting paid to watch films and play/read about games. Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted May 20, 2005 Keeping Mik in business, I am still the night shift cigarette sensei for ze largest Kroger distribution center in the nation. Much like this messageboard and many other things, I seize some measure of control of my coworkers/peers within a couple years. I'm still below the managerial echelon of ugliness, which is grand, because my dream is power without responsibility. I'm considering a radical career change. Possibly deep-sea welding on oil rigs. Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2005 I drive drunk people around on Friday and Saturday nights by riding a moped to where they are, putting the moped in the back of their car/truck/SUV, driving the car to their home with them in it, and then taking out the moped and skeedaddling away. I make about $50-$70 a night when I do this, for only five or six hours of hanging around in a jumpsuit and eating Taco Bell, dependent on how busy we are. My second job is dishwashing at Mellow Mushroom, a massively drug referential restaurant downtown. Turns out I was just put back there to see if I'd be reliable before they moved me to the front of the house to eventually be a host (under how they pay, the host/hostess ends up making the most of anyone working front of the house), saying my "force of personality" had me working the front one day anyway. Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2005 It started over in London, then spread to other European cities, then came to our country a ways back. It's massive in Los Angeles and New York, and similar businesses have been popping up in large metropolitan areas/college towns for a while. The dude who owns it started Charleston's back in January. So far, it's him and I doing it, with a third person joining us this weekend. It's slightly profitable already, even after all the ad space he's bought in different bars and all the business cards we've got, plus some evenings where I got paid my flat $50 and we had maybe one or two calls. We charge a $15 minimum and then it's $3 a mile from five miles on. These people have already given an arm and a leg at a bar, and our customers are generally the middle aged or younger professional types, so while I think it's a bit much to charge, they have no problem with it. The alternative is also thousands of dollars from a DUI, so that helps motivate people.
