Guest Arnold_OldSchool Posted May 21, 2005 Report Posted May 21, 2005 A Friday? Why is this on Friday? This has Sunday night Family movie written all over it, since the muppet's and Disney both have a built in fan base... I like the update kinda so far....
SuperJerk Posted May 21, 2005 Report Posted May 21, 2005 They can't show it on Sundays because these days that timeslot is reserved for actual shows. Muppet Wizard of Oz, Disney butcher's another classic? Disney owns the Muppets? Fuck!
Guest Arnold_OldSchool Posted May 21, 2005 Report Posted May 21, 2005 Sunday on ABC always has a family disney movie....I think

Muppet Wizard of Oz, Disney butcher's another classic? Disney owns the Muppets? Fuck! With Ashanti as the lead.....I would of rather watch a remake of The Wiz with B2K boys and Whitney Houston.
Coolclint Posted May 21, 2005 Report Posted May 21, 2005 Sunday on ABC always has a family disney movie....I think Maybe between now and the beginning of the next season of Desperate Housewives, but besides that, they're not going to just throw movies out there when they're winning Sunday nights.
Steviekick Posted May 21, 2005 Report Posted May 21, 2005 It wasn't all that bad. It was actually one of the better uses for Pepe, who for me is either hit or miss in Muppet projects.
Guest Arnold_OldSchool Posted May 21, 2005 Report Posted May 21, 2005 Disney doesn't show family movies from 6-8 central on Sunday nights on ABC's anymore? /doesn't watch TV much
slimm44 Posted May 21, 2005 Report Posted May 21, 2005 Yeah they usually throw Wonderful World of Disney around. Kind of like how America's Funniest Videos was the past few weeks. Now they have Extreme Makeover from 7-9 Eastern time on Sundays. Wonderful World of Disney was on Saturday nights back in October/November but the NBA playoffs have taken over. I thought it was a good remake. Pepe is one of my favorites and was hilarious in the movie.
Gary Floyd Posted May 21, 2005 Report Posted May 21, 2005 I thought it was fun. Then again, I can never hate the muppets, no matter what. Hell, they could do a tribute to Pier Passolini's "Salo" and I'd love it.
Damaramu Posted May 21, 2005 Report Posted May 21, 2005 Why is Dorothy black in this one? Seriously I really don't understand this new trend that a minority must be included in everything. I mean we want everyone to be treated equal right? So how is it equal treating when you go tell people "your movie may be considered racist or discriminatory if you don't cast a lead minority!" this is what happend in DareDevil isn't it? I mean how are we equal when we're forcing people to cast minorities in a lead to make them equal? Doesn't that make them less equal that people have to pressured into casting them? If I made movies I would seriously release one with nothing but white people in it(and i'm talking white white......arkansas redneck white) and see what kind of response it gets.
Guest Arnold_OldSchool Posted May 21, 2005 Report Posted May 21, 2005 did they sing any of the classic songs?

Dorothy being black wasn't out of place though. Her whole family was black. It's not like it was a white aunt with an asian uncle having a black neice. I just think they honestly picked who they thought would be best for the role, although I didn't enjoy Ashanti at all.

I think the deal with DareDevil was more the fact that they couldn't find any big enough guys to play Kingpin, or the big guys they found weren't good enough actors or something
SuperJerk Posted May 21, 2005 Report Posted May 21, 2005 Why is Dorothy black in this one? What? You think there's no black people in Kansas? I don't remember the book specifying what race she was. What the hell difference does it make? They probably hired Ashanti because she could sing well and act a little (she's been in a lot of stuff), and was probably the biggest star they could get to be in it.

I'm just talking about when they remake old movies they go back and feel they HAVE to cast minorities in pivotal roles just to appease some civil rights agenda that in the end IMO makes everyone seem less equal. I mean if I was a struggling black actor I would want to be cast off talent and hard work rather than the color of my skin. And unfortunately that's how a lot of actors are getting cast.
Ravenbomb Posted May 21, 2005 Report Posted May 21, 2005 I don't recall any of the characters in the original being made out of felt, either

Yea, and NOT casting a minority, for the sake of if you do, it feeling like it's being racist to white people, is not racist. There's no problem really, until someone just decides they want to make it a problem. Yea, lets cast Christina Aguilera instead! Because you know, she's white. It'll be better. When in reality, it really doesn't make a difference.
