UZI Suicide 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2005 Back in the 80s an event occured called Live Aid.. basically the biggest music acts in the world all played at different venues to raise money for charity. They're doing it again this year, it's being billed as "Live 8". It's called Live 8 because the world's richest countries are meeting at the G8 summitt a week later. Paul Stanley 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2005 Some of that lineup sucks compared to 85' WHERES FUCKING DIRE STRAITS REUNION!?!? Knopfler is on a solo tour right now tho.

B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2005 No Hasselhoff in Berlin? I'm disappointed, seeing as how we all know that GERMANS LOVE DAVID HASSELHOFF.
Guest OSIcon Report post Posted June 1, 2005 The London lineup is far and away the strongest. I'd rather see Muse, The Cure, The Killers, Snow Patrol, and even U2 and REM before pretty much anyone on the Philly lineup. For a free show, the Philly lineup is hardly bad, just no where near as good as London looks.
Garth 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2005 I'm gonna have a go at getting tickets for the London version. To get tickets for it you have to enter a text message lottery, so I really doubt I'll manage to get any.
Guest Ransome Report post Posted June 3, 2005 Is this the final list of performers that will appear? I would have thought they'd at least get Dylan and Springsteen (to name two obvious examples) for the Philadelphia show.
Zorin Industries 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2005 I'm just waiting to see waht happens in Edinburugh after Bob Geldoff called for a million people to march on the city. Visions of Woodstock '99 came into my head
Guest Dr. Wrestlingphysics Report post Posted June 3, 2005 Lordy, those lineups look woeful. Coldplay and U2 are always gonna do anything with "charity" connected with it, pity both bands are so humourless about it. The whole show, London especially, screams boring middle of the road "safe" guitar rock. I know a charity gig isn't the place to be controversial, but some edgier artists wouldn't go a miss, if only to try to get the message across that it isn't just middle class wuss-rockers that want to help poor people whilst sitting on big fat bank balances. cameron chaos 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2005 Muse and Velvet Revolver are not MOR rock.

Red Baron 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2005 There's rumours of a Pink Floyd reunion at one of the shows. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That'll be worth the admission for it.
B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2005 I doubt The floyd will get back together. And if they do, I really want Syd to be a part of the festivities. A guy can dream, right?
TheFranchise 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2005 Also, there's a 99% pretty much confirmed chance the Spice Girls will re-unite in London that night.

PLAGIARISM! 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2005 It's funny, I'd convinced myself at least one of the Spice Girls was dead.

Guest Dr. Wrestlingphysics Report post Posted June 8, 2005 I saw her on some show eith Patsy Kensit and Craig David.
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2005 Apparently there are three more places to be added one of them is Toronto (Tokyo and Sydney are the other two I think) For Toronto there's a huge possibility that the Rolling Stones would be the featured band there. MrRant 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2005 I guess 50 Cent pulled out. 50 Cent hates poor people.
Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2005 Eddie Vedder is supposedly added to the Philly show.
CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2005 Confirmed on CBC's The Hour with George Strombolopoulous Toronto's show includes The Stones, OLP, Jann Arden and The BareNaked Ladies. They mentioned more, but I was drunk. I do recall, Tokyo and Johannesburg were the other two confirmed cities. Ready for who the featured performer of Johannesburg? Nelson Mandela. He's probably one of the 5 or 10 greatest human beings of all time, but can he carry a tune?
Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2005 Eddie Vedder is supposedly added to the Philly show. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, maybe not. This remains to be seen.

CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2005 The Hip haven't been confirmed for the TO show? The fuck? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Fuck me if they're not there. I'd be baffled if not. How many benefits have they done in the last 2 or 3 years? Well, maybe not. This remains to be seen. Aren't Pearl Jam boycotting U.S venues over the Iraq thing?
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2005 I could care less about Dion, Adams, etc. playing the venue. They need a second stage for acts like Arcade Fire, Broken Social, DFA 1979 and others. I can't imagine Arcade Fire won't get an invite based on the disgustingly large amount of press they've been getting the last 4 months or so.
Guest Ransome Report post Posted June 18, 2005 Also, there's a 99% pretty much confirmed chance the Spice Girls will re-unite in London that night. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This was a rumour from before Live 8 was even announced, but Geldof shot it down saying he wasn't going to have any manufactured pop groups at his event. In other words, don't expect a Spice Girls reunion.
Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2005 Well, maybe not. This remains to be seen. Aren't Pearl Jam boycotting U.S venues over the Iraq thing? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Where'd you hear this? Yeah, they're doing a Canada-only mini-tour, but that doesn't mean they're boycotting US shows. They toured in '03, and have done other benefit shows since then in the US. They're opening for the Rolling Stones in Pittsburgh this summer.
CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2005 A buddy told me. And instead of scoffing at me, reap praise on me because, even plastered, I spelt George Strombolopolous correctly. Kidding. So this Canada mini tour isnt some anti-U.S, 'I'm taking my ball and going home' kind of thing?
