Back in the 80s an event occured called Live Aid.. basically the biggest music acts in the world all played at different venues to raise money for charity. The London lineup is far and away the strongest. I'd rather see Muse, The Cure, The Killers, Snow Patrol, and even U2 and REM before pretty much anyone on the Philly lineup. For a free show, the Philly lineup is hardly bad, just no where near as good as London looks.

I'm gonna have a go at getting tickets for the London version. To get tickets for it you have to enter a text message lottery, so I really doubt I'll manage to get any.

Is this the final list of performers that will appear? I would have thought they'd at least get Dylan and Springsteen (to name two obvious examples) for the Philadelphia show.

Lordy, those lineups look woeful.

Coldplay and U2 are always gonna do anything with "charity" connected with it, pity both bands are so humourless about it.

The whole show, London especially, screams boring middle of the road "safe" guitar rock.

I know a charity gig isn't the place to be controversial, but some edgier artists wouldn't go a miss, if only to try to get the message across that it isn't just middle class wuss-rockers that want to help poor people whilst sitting on big fat bank balances.

Muse and Velvet Revolver are not MOR rock.

Apparently there are three more places to be added one of them is Toronto (Tokyo and Sydney are the other two I think)

For Toronto there's a huge possibility that the Rolling Stones would be the featured band there.

Confirmed on CBC's The Hour with George Strombolopoulous

Toronto's show includes The Stones, OLP, Jann Arden and The BareNaked Ladies.

They mentioned more, but I was drunk.

I do recall, Tokyo and Johannesburg were the other two confirmed cities.

Ready for who the featured performer of Johannesburg?

Nelson Mandela.

He's probably one of the 5 or 10 greatest human beings of all time, but can he carry a tune?

I could care less about Dion, Adams, etc. playing the venue. They need a second stage for acts like Arcade Fire, Broken Social, DFA 1979 and others. I can't imagine Arcade Fire won't get an invite based on the disgustingly large amount of press they've been getting the last 4 months or so.

Also, there's a 99% pretty much confirmed chance the Spice Girls will re-unite in London that night.

This was a rumour from before Live 8 was even announced, but Geldof shot it down saying he wasn't going to have any manufactured pop groups at his event. In other words, don't expect a Spice Girls reunion.

Well, maybe not. This remains to be seen.

Aren't Pearl Jam boycotting U.S venues over the Iraq thing?

Where'd you hear this? Yeah, they're doing a Canada-only mini-tour, but that doesn't mean they're boycotting US shows. They toured in '03, and have done other benefit shows since then in the US. They're opening for the Rolling Stones in Pittsburgh this summer.

A buddy told me.

And instead of scoffing at me, reap praise on me because, even plastered, I spelt George Strombolopolous correctly.

Kidding.

So this Canada mini tour isnt some anti-U.S, 'I'm taking my ball and going home' kind of thing?
