Fartsauce Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 So, I was checking out Tommy Lasorda's blog the other day, and stumbled on a few other ones in the listings. I come across this one written by this guy who is completely insane. http://snaggingbaseballs.mlblogs.com/ I'm willing to chip in and pay for this guys therapy.
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 Can't have too many balls these days.
Vasarian_Brandy Posted June 13, 2005 Report Posted June 13, 2005 And here I am, still waiting on my first. What the Hell's wrong with me?
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted June 13, 2005 Report Posted June 13, 2005 Clearly, you have too much self-respect. I have one international league baseball that was given to me as a gift. Otherwise, if I ever catch one, I'm giving it to a kid. I can buy a damned baseball if I want one. A major league pitcher holding a ball does not make it any more than a baseball.
bob_barron Posted June 13, 2005 Report Posted June 13, 2005 One of my friends is good friends with this guy.
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe Posted June 13, 2005 Report Posted June 13, 2005 It's more than just a baseball if you catch it at a game, it becomes something special you keep on your mantle or what have you. It's like when a team saves the ball from a guy's first hit, or they go out of their way to get a special # HR ball back. It has special and sentimental meaning.
the pinjockey Posted June 13, 2005 Report Posted June 13, 2005 Catching a home run ball? I can live with that being neat (especially if it is like a Phillies game where you get the ball signed by who hit the homer). But blowing a load over someone tossing a ball into the stands three hours before a game is just depressing. I have caught one ball from a BP session. It was from Burrell. As soon as I got home it went to a buddy of mine whose niece loves Burrell. Better there then sitting in a corner where I'll forget about it in two hours.
DerangedHermit Posted June 13, 2005 Report Posted June 13, 2005 One of my friends is good friends with this guy. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Figures Mr. SNL Host and Castmembers' Official Stalker™ would have friends (or friends of friends) like that.
Guest Smues Posted June 13, 2005 Report Posted June 13, 2005 I've gotten one ball ever, and I kept it despite a little kid asking for it. But that was only because Fred McGriff threw it to me and I wasn't giving up a ball from a guy I grew up watching with Atlanta. Otherwise though if I get a ball again I'm sure I'll give it away.
Art Sandusky Posted June 17, 2005 Report Posted June 17, 2005 I've never gotten a ball. (cries) It's pretty amazing considering I've been to a few games here in Charleston and two Atlanta games and was in a good spot to catch something each time. When I was at Wrigley there was only one ball all night that came near where I was.
snuffbox Posted June 17, 2005 Report Posted June 17, 2005 Ive been to a few games in Milwaukee (old County Stadium but no MillerPark yet) and one in Baltimore....no balls for me. If I ever do get one, Ill give mine to the nearest kid too. Unless its really something special (homerun #whatever or somethin) thed Id return to the player for a handshake and a beer. Of course, Ill prolly never catch a ball anyway, and Ill shoot myself.
mike546 Posted June 17, 2005 Report Posted June 17, 2005 I've gotten one. The 98 season, Hideki Irabu (has to be worth something~!) pitching, Rusty Greer fouled it back, and I got it.
treble Posted June 17, 2005 Report Posted June 17, 2005 I came kinda close to some balls at Olympic Stadium a few years ago. Showed up early and caught the Braves BP and a few fell down in-front of the out-of-town scoreboard behind the wall they had there and some guy had some weird contraption made up with some kind of cup that he used to fish them out of there. He seemed to be giving whatever he got to kids around there. Later on during the game, Orlando Cabrera hit a HR a few sections over. Never been close to a foul ball whenever I've sat along the lines, though, either at the Big O or SkyDome.
Guest Fishyswa Posted June 17, 2005 Report Posted June 17, 2005 My friend has a yankee ball signed by Randy Johnson when he was back with the Mariners(I had the matching hat until my sister started dating some real winners), THAT's a ball worth holding on to.
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe Posted June 18, 2005 Report Posted June 18, 2005 If you want to catch a ball, hang around in the rightfield standing room at Camden Yards during batting practice. Tons of balls hit there the day I went last year.
Guest *KNK* Posted June 18, 2005 Report Posted June 18, 2005 I have one home run ball to my credit and that was from Jim Edmonds in 2002. The ball just drove right into my hands, hardly had to move a inch.
Fartsauce Posted June 18, 2005 Author Report Posted June 18, 2005 I've never been to a game in my life. NONE of my friends like watching baseball on tv and don't even wanna go to a Jays game. Maybe I should just move to Toronto.
