OMG XENOSAGA EPISODE 3 IS COMING TO THE U.S. 8/29/06!!!

http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product_id=B281602A

Take a look at these amazing features!

"* Over 8 Hours of Movies Including Voiced Cut Scenes - Pre-rendered cut scenes and real-time cut scenes with dramatically enhanced models, as well as in-game voiced cut scenes with anime-style 2D portraits unveil an epic story.

* The Exciting Conclusion to an Epic Trilogy - Building on the deeply philosophical and existential storyline of the first two titles, the concluding chapter in the series brings closure to the remaining mysteries in the highly acclaimed story.

* Updated Battle System - Battles are intuitive and fun, combining the best aspects of the first two games' battles, while introducing the new Break system.

* Customize Your Characters - A branching skill set promotes character specialization and diversification. Strategic party management is more highly rewarded, adding another level of depth to game strategy.

* Money/Shops Are Back!- Buy, barter, and sell any items or equipment, allowing you to upgrade your characters and E.S.s frequently.

* An In-Game Database is Your Veritable "Xeno Bible"- An easily accessible database of every detail: important events, people, items, keywords, locations, weapons, back-story, phenomenon, townspeople, associations and companies.

* Challenge Yourself and Friends with new Mini-games - With 60 pre-made levels to complete, the Xenosaga puzzle mini-games add a new type of challenge for the player, and rewards his performance. The mini-game map editor also lets players create, play and share their own custom maps with friends."

The marketing people really did their homework. Don't you want the game RIGHT NOW?!??!?!

I like how it hypes that battles are fun. Was that not a feature in the first two?

ITEM SHOPS! What innovation.

Its actually a hybrid shooter/RPG. Yet doesn't excel at either. There are major plot incosistenies, but you'll usually find those when playing a FFVII game.

Oh, and Yuffie apparently plays a huge ass part in the game. So all those who were in favor of YuffiexVincent rejoice.

Dirge of Cerberus also includes a metrosexual Japanese pop singer (Gackt) who has been crowbarred into the story, making its plot seem like some sort of bad self-insertion fanfic.

I'm going to have to find a ROM of VII somewhere and play it just to see what the big deal is. Just looks like a prototypical (big sword hero vs. more than slightly effeminate looking villain) RPG, but a lot of people make it out to be the end-all, be-all of RPGs.

Yes, I've never played VII. Commence shocked and horrified glances now.

At the time it came out, it was considered the end-all be-all cause it was one of the first "next gen" RPGs... it does not hold up to time very well. Some of the FMV work is great (from what I remember), but the other graphics are fairly poor. Although that could just be that graphics now are better for the most part.

I enjoyed it alot, and spent a long time to beat it. I thought some of the twists were awesome and the opening would probably still give me chills. The FMV of the famous death also hit me good, even though i had that part spoiled a few weeks earlier by a schoolmate.

You're going to actually try to play FFVII now?

Good luck. The translation is so horrifyingly bad that it even drives Anya slightly mad. The pre-rendered bgs have aged well, but the character models are yech. The battle models look much better but the frame rate will make your eyes scream.

I hafta be a sucker. While I went to EB to finish paying off my Disgaea 2 prepurchase, I did the unthinkable.

...I caved and bought Dirge of Cerebus while I was at it. I have too much cash and not enough responsibilities for this bi-weekly paycheck I get. >_<

Oh well, it'll probably at least be worth it. I hope.

Eh, guess I'll skip it then. I mean, I know what happens so it's not imperative.

Hey Flik if you've got all this extra cash lying around you cna always donate to my burgeoning anime/manga habit. Still looking to get the money together for that Trigun set :D .

Nah, I'm gonna need my money here soon. The Wii is coming, an dI'm so buying one.

^_^;; Although, I do pay $400 rent now, so I can't spend AS much... But still, I just blew it on a game I'll probably play once and never touch again.

i'm playing Dark Cloud 2 right now, though I haven't played the first. I have to say, this is a really nice little game, there's a ton of fun gameplay elements to it. In particular, idea building and the weapon leveling system are both genius. There's just a ton of stuff to do. It's very Zelda-ish, but in a good way. only gripe is some of the dungeons so far are a bit too long and repetetive with the hacking/slashing. some good puzzle solving in the dungeons would probably have elevated this game to greatness. it also seems unusually hard at times where I'm at. 2 hits can wipe out your HP. Its a nice alternative to Zelda though for those who dont have nintendo systems.

I had never really thought about Japan's used gaming industry, but you know how you could find ffx-2 for $20 a month after the game came out? Supposed to be the about same deal over there now with Dirge.

Ah, apparently yeah. Comment from Jeremy Parish's blog:

So don't let those pretty CG graphics trick you into a fanboy froth, because you'll only regret it later. You know, when you desperately want to resell the game but can only get ten bucks for it because the secondary market is already glutted with copies dumped by others who made the same mistake as you. It only took a week in Japan!

I've finally gotten around to playing Dragon Quest 8 in earnest after it mostly just sitting around since I got it for my birthday in February. Really good game only ruined by having to level grinding every now and then, and weapons seem to be over priced, but I lost a nice amount of money early on by being wiped out 3 times, but I'm mostly doing ok now. It's weird how this game and Smackdown vs Raw 2006 have the British spellings and DQ8 sounds like it was dubbed by a mostly British cast, but they didn't get the games as soon as America did

The localization for Dragon Quest VIII was heavily done by Richard Honeywood, a witty Brit. The localization and well-written voice acting is also the best part of the entire game.

Let's all point and laugh at Flik now.

Meh, as long as its good enough for me, I'll keep it. I don't have high standards on a game I'll keep. I've only traded in a few games (sans college, I was piss fucking poor broke) and I usually never regret a purchase. I doubt Dirge will be one I absolutely regret.

I'd go on record as saying its the best VA of any game out there. Just wish there was a bit more success for it.
