Comments that don't warrant a thread

Yes, I know I'm about a year late (again), but Dragon Quest VIII has to be one of the prettiest games I've ever played. The art style is just so well done and everything is done to scale (i.e. on the world map, your giant character doesn't run into a little group of houses that constitutes a town) that it feels like you are exploring some vast world.

Videogame Store Annoyances from 1UP.com

Adam Rhea: "At a local GameStop I used to go to, I was buying a copy of Yoshi Touch & Go for the DS. I take off the wrapping and open the box, and there was no game in sight. So I walk back in to the store, walk up to the employee and ask him if he can get a copy of the game. He tells me that the only way to do that is to get a game from another box. So I tell him to just give me another box. He goes and gets the box, scans it and says, 'That will be $30.84.' I reminded him that I already paid for the game and that I just needed a case that actually had the game inside. Then he says, 'Well, you can sell the case you have for store credit.' I yelled, 'YOU EXPECT ME TO PAY FOR THE SAME GAME TWICE?' He then tells me, 'Even if the case was missing a game, it still counts as a game that YOU paid for. It's not my problem.' We argue for about 10 minutes and in the end I threw my case at his head and left."

GameStop Employee: "Some of those games and DVDs sitting on GameStop's shelves are stolen property. On a regular basis at the store I work at this couple will come in with a bunch of DVDs that were obviously stolen from Hollywood Video. All the spots where they use that little plastic piece to seal the box shut were broken off. I even asked them how did they like this movie or that movie and they really couldn't tell me much about it and got nervous about it. I even got a verbal warning about how we have to take the trade-in because we are not allowed to deny ANY trade-ins at all, even things that look obviously stolen. So GameStop has now become your local neighborhood fence."

Wow, that is unreal. I would have done worse.

I would have threaten a lawsuit. Unless they have a policy for that kind of stuff and if they do...wow.

wait since when do gamestop games have wrapping? Aren't even their new games technically opened?

If by "new games" you mean "that one on the display," yeah.

This only becomes an issue if it is the last one available, which is rarely the case.

Could we have a OAO Gamestop/EB sucks thread for these comments?

Yes! I like it when they offer me "guaranteed insurance" on my games. I don't mind it on consoles, but games? What are you guaranteeing here buddy, that it's faulty or that I'm gonna break it? I'm not a clumsy fuck, I've never broken any of my games.

my EB/Gamestop is in a mall which also has a best buy, so for mainstream releases, I go straight to BB. as far as I'm concerned, EB is only good for the lower-tier priced used games (a la MGS2 for 5 bucks or whatever). Impulse buys basically. there's literally no reason I'd ever shop there otherwise, the whole outfit just seems so amateurish.

I actually went to a really good Gamestop to buy Guitar Hero.

My friend who was with me was shocked. She said, "Everytime I come to a Gamestop to buy odd games, everyone looks at me shocked. I'm amazed you all are actually gamers too."

Which is basically true. Buying Okami was rough. But there are the occasional positive store. I'm just really against bigbox stores eliminating games stores in general.

When I'm in the states shopping (usually Dearborn, MI), we usually go to some mall... I don't know what the correct term is for it, but all the stores have exterior doors. Anyway there is a Best Buy right near the GameStop. I don't like the GameStop in that area at all and would usually buy a game from the BB. This is all a rare instance though as I would normally just buy the game in Canada, unless it was $49.99 US and $69.99 Canadian (that doesn't add up with current exchange rates). The GameStop at that mini-mall used to be a Funcoland and is very small and usually has noisy kids begging parents for games.

Does anyone know what the song is called that is being used in the Gears of War tv ad?

You know, I got MGS3 in the spring, beat it....and I really haven't touched it since. I really don't know what it is about it; I enjoyed the gameplay most of the time and the story wasn't anything exceptional, but it didn't collapse at the end like MGS2, but I just haven't played it in months.

I also bought Sonic Mega Collection Plus recently. Sonic 2 is surprisingly mediocre compared to the rest of the series. The level design is pretty much the best thing about it.

Why do you say that?

Mediocre compared to the extremely bland Sonic 1?

And vs. Sonic 3, Sonic and Knuckles? Both compared--yeah, that's a huge game, but separately....

And most of the games besides the initial 3+ are kind of crappy.

So I have some money to buy a game, and my 4 games on my list to get are Final Fantasy XII, Kingdom Hearts II (just got around to beating the first one), Bully, and Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. Which one would you choose?

So after playing Madden 07, I've came to a conclusion.

6/10.

This game falls completly short as there is so much potential for everything. No commentary itself loses a point itself.

They have the ESPN license, and aren't using it. I mean look at NFL 2K5. That is still the pinnacle of all football games.

MKA >>>> KH2 :P

...if you take away the popularity, critical acclaim, and production value advantage....

Naw, you're still on crack.

If you know what you're getting and are ok with it, I'd say get FFXII.

I honestly wouldn't expect anyone to pay full retail price for KH2 at this point when it's going to go GH in about a month and a half....and with Final Mix + not having an announcement one way or the other for the US.

Midway has humongous balls to expect anyone to pay full retail price ever for MKA.

Well I chose FF12. Assuming you like FF games, it's fantastic.

however, MK games do nothing for me, and I hated the gameplay of Kingdom Hearts 1, so really I chose FF12 over Bully.

I do want to play Bully eventually but I have a ton of other PS2 games I still have to get to, prince of persia sands of time, RE4, MGS3 Subsistence, and Okami.

EA knows they don't have to put any effort into Madden to sell a billion copies. I really wish that 2k would do something with their wonderful engine, but it looks like it isn't happening. 2k5 is a great game, but it's pretty much impossible to put an updated roster on it and it's a little dated. Still better than Madden, sadly.

Tony Hawk Project 8 comes out Wednesday and I'm pumped. I'm a HUGE fan of the series and I am reading that this game is different from the rest.

What's in the collector's edition of FFXII?

Basically metal shiny box and you get a bonus DVD about the game creation and everything else. Its basically the "additional stuff" that went to the game, me thinks.
