World's Worst Man 0 Report post Posted May 26, 2007 Sounds like every RPG made before 1997, other than FFVI and Shining Force II. Of course, I wouldn't call any of those games underrated, but to each their own.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted May 26, 2007 Well I'm not doubting there are circles that probably dislike Sonic CD (and I'd gladly join one), the mainstream gaming media has been consistently declaring it the best Sonic game since it was released. This is in spite of the fact that: 1. It lacks the refinement Sonic 2 had over Sonic 1 - Tails, the speed dash, and the REAL reason Sonic 2 is the greatest Sonic game - the Vs mode race (Sonic 3 really blew it on that one, btw). There's a good reason for that--it began development before Sonic 2 did and was developed by a different team. It appears during the course of development Sonic Team/STI saw the Super Peel Out and the proto-spin dash Sega CD employed, and combined them in Sonic 2 to create the Super Spin Dash we know today. The most overrated game in the Sonic franchise is Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Bull. And rarely, if ever, is lamenting a game's "overratedness" ripe grounds for an interesting discussion. AlexPuma 0 Report post Posted May 26, 2007 The reasoning that Sonic CD didn't have the 'improvements' that Sonic 2 had was because it was made by Naoto Ohshima, the guy who created Sonic the Hedgehog, and therefore, the game plays a lot more like the first game. Yuji Naka, the guy who is wrongfully credited to creating Sonic, was the head of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Naka is also the guy who also is helping to kill the Sonic franchise with such 'hits' as Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic Next Gen. Sonic 3 & Knuckles is overrated for being "gaming perfection" to some. The game suffers from some poor level designs (Marble Garden Zone, Carnival Night Zone, and Sandopolis Act 2) and the fact that you had to pay full price for two games just to have the 'complete' experience. By the way, the reason why Sonic and Knuckles is "more of the same" is because it IS the second half of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Crafty, eh? Now that I think about it, Sonic Adventure 2 is the most overrated, especially in comparison to Sonic Adventure. The people who say that SA2 is the best 3D Sonic must be forgetting that Knuckles and Rogue's stages are among the worst in Sonic history. Either that, or they're too busy dinking around with the Chao Garden to notice. Sonic Labyrinth is the worst Sonic game, period.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted May 26, 2007 Naka is also the guy who also is helping to kill the Sonic franchise with such 'hits' as Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic Next Gen. Incorrect. It's Takashi Izuka to blame for those travesties. He's also going to be to blame for NiGHTs 2's awfulness. Naka didn't actively direct/develop those. I've never heard anyone call it gaming perfection. I don't see the problems with MGZ's design. Carnival Night Zone's problem is the level's too damn long and the music utterly sucks. It's about the only level I ever timed out on in a Sonic game ever. Sandopolis 2 and Carnival Night combined don't tick me off as much as Metropolis Zone in Sonic 2. THREE ACTS of that??!!? Good Lord. Angel Island, Ice Cap, Lava Reef, Hydrocity, and Mushroom Hill are some of my favorite Sonic levels ever, though. But since they're not in one true standalone game I still think Sonic 2 is better. On the whole, yes, I do think S3&K is a mixed bag. By the way, the reason why Sonic and Knuckles is "more of the same" is because it IS the second half of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Crafty, eh? Everybody knows this. The two games by themselves are acceptable length for a Sonic title. So while, yeah, it's basically an expansion pack and a product of Sega's utter greed, you don't *need* Sonic 3 to run it. Sonic Labyrinth is the worst Sonic game, period. This is correct. The worst traditional Sonic platformer is, by the way, Sonic Blast on Game Gear/Master System. AlexPuma 0 Report post Posted May 26, 2007 http://info.sonicretro.org/Shadow_the_Hedgehog_%28game%29 Naka is the Producer for Shadow according this link, with Izuka-san the director for it. Izuka's name doesn't even show up on the list for Sonic Next Gen, even when I looked on Wikipedia, but neither does Yuji Naka's. Apparently Shun Nakamura (the genius behind Billy Hatcher) is to blame for that mess. So we're both right and wrong I guess.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted May 26, 2007 The "Producer" credit is deceptive because he's just got his name on it because of the characters/world/etc and likely presented the ideas/concept to the Sega bigwigs. Naka didn't actually program anything or direct the project. Izuka did. Take a look at any interview concerning any of the recent 3D Sonic games. Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes and Shadow are Izuka's babies. Izuka is the guy that gets interviewed because he's actually doing the (shitty) work. Naka *isn't even a part of Sega* anymore. I didn't know Nakamura headed up Sonic Next Gen. I guess my first clue should have been that it's a bigger POS than Izuka's projects. BTW, Yojiro Ogawa is the lead on Sonic and the Secret Rings--he's the ex-Smilebit member who headed up Panzer Dragoon Orta.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted May 26, 2007 I haven't played any Sonic games beyond 2...spinning after rings isn't my bag...however, I loved the hell outta 2, played it all the time!
DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted May 26, 2007 For the record I'm aware of the reasons why Sonic CD lacks some of the refinements from Sonic 2, but that doesn't make it better. I'm also repeating myself from the original Sonic Gems thread (remember when games had their own threads?).
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted May 26, 2007 For the record I'm aware of the reasons why Sonic CD lacks some of the refinements from Sonic 2, but that doesn't make it better. I'm also repeating myself from the original Sonic Gems thread (remember when games had their own threads?). I still make threads for games I care about, even if other people don't (post or care, that is). People have been trained well by Mole, I'm afraid. Plus we're in a bit of a drought on all 3 systems. Games that encourage interesting discussions and don't have "Guitar Hero" in the title appear to be in short supply.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted May 26, 2007 *yawn* Guitar Hero...been there, did it...5 years ago when it was called Guitar Freaks.
AlexPuma 0 Report post Posted May 26, 2007 I'm posting it here not knowing its worth it or not to bump an old thread. On a crazy impulse, I put down a preorder for Scarface: The World is Yours for the Wii, mostly because I wanted a sandbox game on the system. However, I never played the X-Box or PS2 version of the game, nor have I even read any reviews of it. Is the game decent at least? The reviews are mixed: IGN loves it, while GameSpot finds it blah. I think it would have been better if I picked up Godfather instead. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sg2OzL-l0FE The trailer for the Wii version. The game at least looks like it has potential on the system.
World's Worst Man 0 Report post Posted May 26, 2007 Just get the Godfather game. The Wii controls make it fun to play, even though it isn't even close to approaching GTA's size and scope, not to mention variety.

AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2007 *Is totally in favor of Star Ocean 3 renaming himself Valkyrie Profile* Oh, and from the "It's on the Internets, It Must Be True!" File: Wiiyou.com is reporting a list of upcoming Wii titles (with no source or anything credited): Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix (Nintendo) Kirby Adventure (Nintendo) Starfox Wii (Nintendo) Pokemon Wii (Nintendo) Mario Party 8 (Nintendo) Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Nintendo) Sonic The Hedgehog Seuqel (Sega) Super Mario Sunshine 2 (Nintendo) Super Mario Stirkers (Nintendo) Spyro (Universal) Soul Calibur 4 (Namco) F-Zero (Nintendo) Donkey Kong Wii (Nintendo) Metroid Xterme (Nintendo) The Legend Of Zelda Moon of Sorrow (Nintendo) Yoshi`s Story 2 (Nintendo) The Legend of Sheik The Meeting with Link (Nintendo) Shadow The Hedgehog 2 (Sega) Paper Mario 3 (Nintendo) Spelling errors and misnaming of real, existing titles aside, I don't think this list really needs any thought to be discredited. LOL at "Shadow the Hedgehog 2" and "The Legend of Sheik." Scary thing is, I wouldn't be shocked at all if there's a Shadow sequel. I'm *so* ready for "Metroid Xterme," though. Ripper 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2007 I recently have been playing the hell out of Total Overdose. Its a blatant GTA rip off, only in Mexico, with worse graphics, but the game play is just fucking fun. You get all these different bullet time effects and shooting moves (nothing is cooler than doing a flip off a wall and pulling off 3 head shots while in the air...nothing) and really cool power ups like the Golden gun(one shot kills), El Torro(where you run people over like a bull) and El Mariachi(two guitar case machine guns) Or this one where you summon a Luchador with a machete to come and fight along with you. Its a really addictive game. the story is pretty stupid, the voice acting is okay, but it has some great fire fights, and is just kick ass game.
