The return of Matt Hardy!!!

Recommended Posts

depends on how the rest of its booked.

If its the same old, ie one guy distracts the ref and uses a chair on the other guy... standard promo... some guy facing Edge and another guy picks matt as his mystery partner, the usual shit, well then it'll end up just like every other hot angle. Remember, Orton's "face turn" when Evolution turned on him was a hot one night thing everybody was raving about too. Then it sucked.

seems they actually paid attention to the details of the angle this one night, can they keep it up?

Though Matt may not seem like he has the same kind of upside as Orton for many, Matt has a tron of untapped potential that people have seen over the years and is a better worker. He is good enough to pull this off, I just doubt WWE and Edge's ability.

The Michaels collapse was a little better than this (that fooled almost everyone), but this is a very, very close 2nd.

I'd put the Cactus Jack/Chainsaw Charlie Dumpster incident up there... only had me fooled because it too up damn near an hour! I thought the would have to be crazy to waste an hour of TV time.

Edit: How can anyone think this is real, especially when they teased it earlier in the night with the recap of the wedding gag? There was no reason to bring it up again.

I hope you're kidding. You mean the incident in which Cactus and Funk fell into the dumpster and a whole bunch of styrofoam peanuts flew into the air? Then when they showed the two of them sitting inside it you could see that it was filled with the styrofoam peanuts. Even Mick Foley bashed that incident as being incredibly bad in his first book.

Yea but the best part was cactus and funk returning from the hospital at the end of the show to save owen hart and austin from the hands of dx and the outlaws, while wearing hospital gowns and hitting the rivals with their IV stands.

It was just Austin actually.

Owen Hart had already been dealt with earlier on in the night.

As expected by many following the storyline, WWE continued to sell the Matt Hardy situation as a "shoot" by having Hardy call in to confront Lita on this week's Byte This. In addition to plugging Ring Of Honor as "real wrestling," Hardy also confronted Lita over her affair with Edge - her basic reply was that she wouldn't want to be with someone who was acting the way he was. She eventually stormed off the set.

This gets better and better.

Just watched the Byte This show - interesting mix of work and shoot comments, pretty wild stuff there. Definately recommend everyone checking this out. Lita made little sense in her excuses why she did what she did.

And I thought Litas retarded excuses were great, because in most of those situations the girl won't make sense. She seemed real convinced with her excuses, so you could understand Matts anger. Very well done, and the storming off worked well to end it.

She also seemed VERY uncomfortable during the whole thing just by her body language - either she's a great actress (which she's not) or she didnt expect Hardy to call in, etc.

So is there anything on Matt's website about how he "invaded" and "took over" Byte this?

In all reality though props to those involved in last Mondays episode for making me actually care about the Matt/Lita/Edge story.

Lita's seemed like the better person in that interview, Matt really did sound stupid cutting wrestling promos. However, it seems more than ever like this was the plan all along- just 'cause Matt was released just when he was ready to return (reason being he could start writing immature rants on his website). Then Edge and Lita were paired quickly after that.

But...who knows.

As much as Matt came off kind of weird on the show, almost bitter and jealous acting (I think its clear he must still have some feelings for her) Lita came off really bad I thought, very heartless, completely bitchy in a very unattractive way and equally in her own little world as much as Matt was. So Matt cuts some parts that sound liek a typical worked promo, so did Lita when bringing up how she "loves her boyfriend, Edge."

True. I've just thought of Matt as disturbed since I saw "The Matt Hardy Show" preview. So disturbed that I just justify that as part of the angle.

Unfortunately I think Matt has basically become his own biggest fan, which, if he doesnt get that in check, is going to ruin any future he has as a potential star. There is no question the guy has talent but if he continues to keep "working" everything that is/was presumed "real" then it's going nowhere.

Lita came off as a complete bitch, but to be fair, Matt came off as a complete whiney teenager. They have to make Matt whine less for this to work. He has to be more insulting and more angry than whiney. Lita was perfect in her role, as she wasn't exactly evil bitch for the sake of being one, but was bitchy enough, especially when she talked about the fans, for people to hate her. She was justified in her reasons, and that's what makes a good heel.

Sadly, given the past histories of those involved, this entire angle (outside of Matt's injury) could be an entire work. Everything from the cheating to the release to everything could be completely fake.

Lets look at the individuals...

Lita - Known throughout the internet as a total whore, or a percieved one if the OMEGA stories aren't true.

Edge - on his second marriage, and one of Matt's closest and trusting friends.

Matt - a web darling, from a good chunk of smarks and through the fans at his website. It's hard not to trust him.

Lisa - Edge's second wife, the invisible character in all of this.

All we had to go by at first was Matt's story. The cellphones, the accusation, the aftermath of "a torrid affair" between Lita and Edge. Straight from Matt's mouth. We had interviews, including ones with XM's Opie & Anthony, where he spelled it out as clear as possible and gained support from nearly everyone, they all saw how he got treated unfairly.

Since he is injured, nobody really thought about a possible release, but it happened. "For the safety of everyone" Matt was released, and the internet exploded with questions.

Weeks went by, and on the net we saw visions of Matt in TNA and ROH as possibilities, while on television we saw Kane become loved and then Lita turned her back.

Craziness ensued, as it seemed the stories were true, and Lita and Edge had become a couple.

Everything boiled up and over and came to a volcanic eruption monday night, where Matt Hardy returned and whooped some canadian cheating ass.

All of this, all of it, could have been one hell of a way to not only give Matt Hardy a huge return push, get Edge some much needed heel heat that he has been lacking, and quite possibly take away the credibility of alot of internet wrestling news sites.

Sure, alot of stuff came straight from Matt's mouth, but the dirtsheets reported it and tried to keep up with the story. We know Vince hates the sheets and leaked info, so this could have easily been entirely staged from the point of the injury onward to now.

Vince could have came to them with the idea, and the ways to put it in motion. Fabricate the story of Lita and Edge getting together. That part isn't hard given both Lita and Edge's alledged pasts, and the trustworthyness of Matt.

Find outlets to make the story seem as real as possible including radio and of course, the internet.

Matt reaches out for support, gaining more and more every day, maybe even more casual fans than he has had since the TLC days thanks to the 'treachery' of his girlfriend.

Then there's Kane. Had Matt not gotten injured, i doubt this plan could have went through, and would have probably ended up with Matt and Lita finally overcoming the big lug and getting back together for a "wedding" or something. But, with the injury, they use the Kane and Lita angle to try and help put the Matt/Lita saga onto television, with the duo playing new loves as Lita secretly plots to destroy it all.

Many married and engaged wrestlers have kissed others on TV, so I'm sure neither Matt, Kane, Lita, or Edge had any problem throwing the tonsil hockey around. Matt would trust Edge enough to not fuck around with their friendship on live TV, and Kane is just there playing a part.

So everyone is pulled in, everyone clamoring, waiting and wondering if and when Matt will return...and finally it happens, and it garners major news, again...probably more news than Hardy has had in a while.

After Matt dispatches with Edge, it could be his ticket to move up in the ranks, maybe even as a loyal reward for sticking with the company and not going to TNA with his brother.

Of course, I could just be speaking completely and entirely out of my ass, but given those involved, there is a small chance that we could be seeing one of the most involved works on the fans of all time.

To be honest...total work or partial work... I wouldn't be surprised either way. It IS the WWE after all.

I'm missing where she was justified in her reasons at all to be honest. Care to elaborate?

Also if she was justified in what she did, wouldnt that actually make her a face? Good heels arent justified in their actions - because that would draw sympathy towards them.

Sorry, mis-typed there. I meant she FEELS justified in her actions. She believes her reasons whole heartingly.

Ok make sense now. Assuming the cheating was real, and if that was really her reasons/excuses why, Lita will never have a decent relationship until she wakes up and stops being so emotionally unattractive.

Adding to the entire thing being a work scenario. Lets not forget Matt sorta lashed out at smarks for dumping on the Kane/Matt/Lita angle last year.

i have a hard time believing the actual breakup-cheating was an angle. More likely a few weeks after the release, they started talking about using the heat for an angle, right around where Matt starting going extra weird on the internet.

Don't forget there also was that photo of the 2 of them at some concert that was taken after this whole thing came out. IIRC Matt tried to explain it away somehow but if there was that much dislike between them, they wouldn't be posing for pics together...

But I'm with the majority in thinking they turned the real situation into a work to generate this huge amount of interest.

Considering the kind of weird booking that is going on (Creepy Pedophile Eddy, the return of Road Warrior Animal, Snitsky's foot fetish, Viscera, the Boogeyman), I doubt the writing team has enough chops to pull off such an elaborate work. Occam's Razor suggests that, as most have already pointed out, the breakup was real, the release was real, and that the overwhelming audience/Internet reaction caused Vince and Co. to use it to jump start the work/shoot angle.

For sure. The main reason that this couldn't have been a work from the start is the 'We Want Matt' chants: WWE couldn't have known people would chant them so audibly and consistently, and if there had been none of these chants, why would they have bought Hardy back? Clearly, Matt and Lita broke up but have remained friends, and WWE sees money in playing off their alleged (nonexistant) heat. The chants were clearly the catalyst which lead to the worked part of the feud.

I guess the moral is that provided fans chant something loud enough and for long enough, WWE will find a way to deliver it.

Have just finished reading through this entire thread and have been writing a number of points on it in no particular order:

(1) I dont think that Matt will appear at No Surrender, but after like he told that he would be, hes doing something to help them by keeping the possibility alive so as they get a few more buys off his back as people turn in to see whether he will be there.

(2) Matt had time to mention on RAW that he will be at No Surrender, like when he was under the Titantron and said screw the WWE again, he could have said TNA No Surrender this Sunday.

(3) As if marks know who Johnny Ace is, they wouldnt be able to tell it was him who tried to keep Matt down on RAW.

(4) Regarding Matt vs Daniels. Punk is pro-WWE, Matt is anti-WWE, why would Punk help Matt. The enemy of my enemy is my friend angle just doesnt work here. If anything, a double pin or double countout or let the prophecy that Daniels has been talking about get involved.

(5) I find it hard to believe that Vince will do any favours for TNA on the basis of what has happened in the past.

(6) According to posters on this board, only 3-10% of WWE fans know about ROH, so they are not a threat and by saying RoH on RAW means very little.

(7) 'Creative' has finally done something right for once. Lets now pray and be thankful.

(8) Matt has reason to hate the WWE in kayfabe terms, they didnt renew his contract.

(9) This was not planned from the beginning. There is no way this could have all been planned from the beginning. Were talking about over a years worth of stuff, as if 'Creative' would have pulled that off. If anybody thinks that 'Creative' could have come up with such a long storyline then your dumb. And if they could, why waste all that effort on just one storyline.

(10) It makes sense for Matt to work Indy shows, but Vince wont let he work TNA IMHO. Gives Matt too much of an audience to spout off about the WWE.

(11) This has the aspects of HHH-Shawn Michaels about it. An unsanctioned fight at SummerSlam with Matt Hardy vs Adam Copeland.

(12) The WWE still fucked this up by having Matt appear twice on the show. It was either or. If people didnt recognise Matt the 1st time, as somebody here posted that you couldnt see him, then they need glasses. They should have just have had by a ticket and wear a hood throughout the show and then jump the rail.

(13) THIS WAS A WORK. Smarks should realise this. The cameras wouldnt have focused on him and security would have dealt with him a lot more quickly, like throw him out of the show the 1st time. They also have a 7 second delay on live shows to bleep people out and could have done that with Matt.

(14) The WWE heard the Matt chants, who couldnt? They then ran his intro at the wedding to see the pop. Then they saw the $ signs.

(15) Its sad to think that Jericho has just be possibly relegated to the 3rd most important match from RAW on the SummerSlam card, and his in match with the show's champion and for the belt.

(16) The only think that will shock me on RAW is if Bret returns and wrestles.

(17) Isnt Orton supposedly the next HHH?

(18) Edge has now got to have a go at Bischoff blaming him for lax security. Edge and Lita should always have a security escort if this persists. Bischoff address the audience with a message for the vigalante saying what he wants is never going to happen. Therefore, the match cant be sanctioned. Matt has to play the avenging angel role, having a shot at Edge every chance he gets. Edge keeps on claiming that hes not afraid, but keeps looking over his shoulder, and is found beaten up at the parking lot, etc... Makes more sense for this to be at Survivour Series rather than SummerSlam, since if Matt gets his hands on Edge for the next 4 odd weeks, it makes it all way to obvious. Better to play the 1 in every 4 weeks attack, 2 attacks in 2 weeks, none for a month. Get Edge spooked. Have him say thats enough, I know its you Matt and I want you at Surivivour Series in an unsanctioned match.

(19) The WWE made a bad call on this conudrum when Ace got involved but they have the possibility of landing on their feet.

(20) WWE have an arrangement with RoH. It could be a star swap with Punk, plugging both shows a bit on the other promotions air time. Vince doesnt see RoH as a threat, hence letting Foley, Dreamer and Eddie work their shows. Has Vince ever taken somebody from TNA?

(21) Money talks. If Matt see a large sum of money, hell sell out. Anybody would.

(22) I agree with Rando regarding Kane. They could just have him cutting promos saying thats enough and that hes in it to be WWE Champion. Dont go over the top though exposing the business more than it already is. No need to throw Kanes history away, since that would be pretty lame. Just have him play the monster Kane with 1 angle, he in it for himself to become WWE Champion and that implies any means necessary. Give him a year long title run with the strap as a heel then turned face. People site his match with Benoit at Bad Blood as being enjoyable.

(23) CanadianChick is right in her posts.

(24) I know smarks who say that HHH is divorced from Steph. Then I say on TV yes but they are still married in real life. Then they look at me funny and say they never got married, HHH drugged Steph god damn it.

Take this for what it's worth but Meltzer is reporting that WWE has given TNA approval to use Matt Hardy at the No Surrender PPV on Sunday.

I called it, btw.

No, you didnt call anything, it was called earlier in the TNA folder under the No Surrender thread.

Check it out:

I cant believe this - just posted from Meltzer....

TNA runs its PPV from Orlando on Sunday and we'll have a full rundown tomorrow. Raven vs. Abyss for the NWA title in a dog collar match is on top, plus Christopher Daniels vs. Petey Williams for the TNA X Division title. It is believed the decision will be made today regarding whether Matt Hardy appears on the show or not doing an unexplained run-in. WWE has okayed it to get over his angle. TNA had not okayed it as of yesterday.

----Just bad for business for Hardy to appear if he's not going to actually do anything long term.

I mean predicting. I predicted after his column after RAW on Monday that he'd be appearing at the TNA show even in a "seen on camera in the crowd" capacity while everyone else shot the idea down.

Not everyone checks the TNA folder, and it hadn't been posted in this thread yet.

Thanks for enlightening me though.
