I just got back from Binghamton. Hamels pitched extremely well, striking out eight and allowing one run through seven innings. If he remains healthy, he could be a real asset down the road.

I'd like to think that they're taking the divison this weekend too, but damn. Redding is starting tomorrow, 0-5 9.10 ERA. And Sunday could be Sturtze or a new guy from AAA. Not to mention they're rushing Kevin Brown (who should be in NO hurry) back to try and start games next week.

If Boston takes just 1 of 4, and the Os sweep the Mariners, the Os would be back in first place, 3 out of 4 from the Mariners and they'd be tied with the Sox.

I'm not sure if it is the situation. I think there is some chance that Schilling is washed up as an elite pitcher.

That's a slight exaggeration, I think you're talking about Game 7 of the ALCS. Pedro came in the 7th inning with the Red Sox up 8-1 to do mop up work (Which he shouldn't have been doing) and gave up two runs. Still an idiotic move by Francona, but at no point did Pedro almost blow the game. Unless I'm having a brainfart and forgetting about one of the other games.

I think what Schilling did for the Sox last year with his ankle and all is more than worth it if he is indeed "finished" and cant get it done anymore. I am not ready to say that after 1 game though. He didn't pitch bad at all and Arod IS one of the best hitters in all of baseball. Relax my fellow Sox fans.

 

I do think that Schilling is done as a starter at least for this year due to being injured still. There is NO way they would use him in the bullpen at all if they were truly hoping he would "build strength" for a return to the rotation. So it's either give him a shot in the bullpen and see if he can at least do that for us, or back to the DL for the rest of the year.

Darrell May and Tim Redding combine for 3.2 IP, 10 H, 12 ER, 7 BBs. Meanwhile, Paul Quantrill has pitched 7.2 scoreless innings for the Padres over four games, striking out six and walking none. It's early, but I think the Padres may have won this trade.
