USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2005 Orioles trade Sidney Ponson to the Padres for Phil Nevin. The Padres then traded two minor leaguers to the Reds for Joe Randa. Mik 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2005 Sporting News is reporting that Nevin will most likely veto the trade. Ha.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2005 How long has Nevin been in San Diego? EDIT: THis is his seventh season. He should veto this, yeah. Padres won't benefit from Ponson.
Bored 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2005 Seven years. He's a 10/5 guy so even without the no trade clause in his contract he'd still have the right to veto any deal.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2005 As well he should. He's getting to the playoffs almost for sure with the Padres. He's gonna have to really work to get Baltimore in. And besides, with Palmeiro at 1st or DH, Sosa at DH as well, and Mora at 3rd, where does Nevin fit in? Orioles need pitching over hitting.
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2005 Yeah I don't see Nevin agreeing to this. He loves it in San Diego and if he refused to go to Cincinnati where his friends were (in that rumored trade for Griffey Jr. a few years ago), he won't go to Baltimore. KingPK 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2005 Dustin Hermanson? I meant Bobby Jenks, who came in the 7th, after Damon's homer. For some reason I thought he came in for Hermanson in the 9th after Stern's homer. Kid had some nasty stuff. Someone calling himself Craig Hansen's (the great college closer the Sox drafted) brother Keith is saying on the ESPN board that he's signed. If so, good news. USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2005 Ahh yeah Jenks is pretty good. Still need to see more of his work.
devo 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2005 Jose Reyes becomes only the third player in Mets history to hit ten or more triples, as he ties the game up 5-5 in the bottom of the 7th with an RBI triple. Real good game so far.
Cartman 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2005 Yea i'm still not 100% sure that that guy is really Hansen's brother, BUT he seems to have a history of posts that goes a long way back proving that it really could be him. I'm 100% sure that Hansen will be signed no matter what though.
devo 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2005 Damn Reyes is hot right now. Four hits and two RBIs in the Mets' 7-5 win over the Dodgers. Pedro gets his twelth win despite having arguably his worst start of the year.
Cartman 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2005 Well it is definitely legit KingPK. Pic
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2005 According to Baseball American the Padres gave up their 4th and 7th ranked prospects for Joe Randa who benefited from playing in the ban box in Cincinnati.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2005 Great trade for the Reds, who can plug a good prospect into third base immediately. I'm not sure of the deal from the Padres' point of view, and I would wait and see on the Orioles, who are likely to make further deals if this goes through. EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2005 http://philadelphia.phillies.mlb.com/NASAp...t=.jsp&c_id=phi PHILADELPHIA -- Jim Thome's return flight to Philadelphia is set to take off, with stopovers in Clearwater, Fla., and Scranton, Pa. It could arrive at its final destination as early as next week. Thome is scheduled to head to Clearwater on Sunday, where he'll continue to strengthen his elbow with Scott Sheridan, the team's coordinator of Minor League athletic trainers. Assuming he progresses, the slugger will then head to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for a rehab assignment. Holy shit.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2005 I've given up on the Orioles making any sort of impact trade. They cant even get rid of Ponson to a team that wants him (Texas, Tampa, San Diego, and Im absolutely SHOCKED that any team would want Ponson, although he could do well in SD with that big park they have) and they couldn't get the Burnett deal done, and now I hear they're talking about getting Jeff Weaver. Jeff Weaver???? Meanwhile..they're 3..no 2 outs away from loss #4 in a row and pitching isn't the problem any more, as they couldn't hit their way out of a wet paper bag anymore. MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2005 Ohh..Tejada hits a solo HR to make it 3-2 D-Rays..
Cuban Linx 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2005 The wheels have fallen off in Texas, lost 4 in a row, 2-8 since the All Star game and will likely be 10 games back from the division lead they held not too long ago after today. One more loss and they drop below .500, with 2 teams ahead of them in the division and 6 ahead of them for the Wild Card an improvement on last season is looking more and more unlikely every day. Mik 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2005 Delgado just hit one into McCovey Cove, and then Miguel followed up with another HR to straightaway CF. Seems like every other game they are hitting them back to back. Of course, it's not, they have only done it 4 times, but I think 3 of them have been in the past two weeks. Now let's just hope that Beckett goes 6 innings and stays injury free.

snuffbox 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2005 Milwaukee is looking really promising/dangerous right now with Overbay/Lee/Jenkins all hitting the ball well for the first time all year.
geniusMoment 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2005 The rumor is if Nevin agrees to go to Baltimore the Reds and Pads have a deal worked out that would send Sean Casey to San Diego. The reds would then move Dunn to first, and play Griffey, Pena and Kearns in the outfield.
Mik 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2005 Well, everybody knows how much I love Miguel Cabrera, but it's going to pretty hard for everyone else to ignore him if he keeps this up. 5 HRs in the last 5 games. He's 2nd in the NL in hitting, creeping up the leaderboards in both HR and RBI and he's only 22! A lot of people say that he isn't nearly as good of a hitter as Albert Pujols - but I'm not so sure. Bored 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2005 On June 11th the A's were 12 1/2 games out of the Wild Card. Today they tied the Twins for the lead. Unbelievable. I'm almost bit uneasy by how quick this turn around has been as there is still 64 games left in the season.
devo 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2005 Benson has his best start of the year (4 H, 0 R, 8 IP) in a 6-0 Mets victory. What's more, the Nationals lose in the 14th, which puts the Mets only 3 1/2 back in the Wild Card. =)

I'm almost bit uneasy by how quick this turn around has been as there is still 64 games left in the season. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This happens every single year (I think they have the best record after the all-star break in the last 5 years). If they started the season like around the All-Star Break, the A's would be a 120 win team.
