OAO Devils Rejects Thread

Recommended Posts

Well I am pumped for this one. I know that many hated 1000 Corpses, but I found it entertaining, and surely saw the potential of Zombie in the film. From what I have read Rejects seems to really grasped the 70's Horror style (Texas Chainsaw, Last House on the Left). Probaly won't be able to see it til Sunday, but those who can catch it post your thoughts.

I really enjoyed House of 1000 Corpses, and am incredibly disappointed this won't be playing in theatres in my town.

I'm going to do my best to see this sometime tomorrow.  The rating on Rotten Tomatoes was relatively high, but now that moralist critics are getting involved, it's going down a bit.

That is what I thought too. I am sure the critics that are into horror films went out of thier way to see this first, so they put post thier reviews first, and now all the others are going to claim it is just violence for the sense of violence.

I thought House of 1000 Corpses had a good first 30-45 minutes, but then it just became to much of a clusterfuck, however Devlis Rejects looks somewhat more of an original idea and more creative, plus I heard it is violent as hell so I will be seeing it.

I love the review from the critic from The Arizona Republic, just because I think it's hilarious when film critics are offended.

How could anyone hate Ho1kC? Yes, it's not the most developed of horror flicks, but I really think it's one of the best American horror flicks in the past 5-10 years or so. I do agree with NCMike, it does kind of become a clusterfuck about halfway into it, but that's not really unheard of in the horror genre (I mean, look at the Miike flicks: so many of them make little-to-no sense at times).

I'll be seeing this tonight with a friend of mine, who's a big horror fan as well. Our original plan was to actually take today off and see it at the matinee showing, but stupid work is just WAY to busy for both of us and thus it'll have to wait until tonight. Lushus, I'll give you the lowdown this weekend if I get the chance to go online.

Lastly, how fucking hot is Sherri Moon Zombie?!?

EDIT: She'd be hotter if the picture actually worked ... I swear.

How could I hate it? It wasn't the least bit scary. It just seemed like they kept throwing out "Look, this is overly meant to be disturbing for the sake of...overly meant to be disturbing."

Movie provided a couple laughs in the first few minutes, but is a complete throwaway otherwise.

This movie fucking ROCKS. A million times better than House of 1,000 Corpses, and to who said the characters are undeveloped, I say this: sit down and watch the movie.

SPOILER WARNING!

Otis actually begins to become human when Baby is threatened by the brother of Sheriff Wydell (who is the main protagonist), as he shows signs of caring for her. Captain Spaulding is the only undeveloped character, but he's awesome in this. Baby is her usual psychotic self, and upon hearing that Sheriff Wydell (again, the brother of the sheriff in the first one) killed her mother, she breaks down crying...and you actually start to feel sorry for her.

Everything that the first one had going for it is amplified in this one. Check out these quotes...

(Captain Spaulding has a dream where he is fucking a rather hot woman who then pulls a gun on him and shoots him, and wakes up next to his fat, ugly, overly horny wife.)

Wife: Bad dream?

Spaulding: About 50/50.

(Otis stuck a gun down this man Roy's wife's panties and rubbed her off with it, and then when he has Roy in the desert to kill him, he sniffs his gun.)

Otis: Oh MAN, this gun still smells like your wife's nasty pussy. I hope it doesn't rust the barrell.

If you liked the first one at all...SEE THIS. The use of the song "Freebird" (by Lynyrd Skynyrd, obviously) is BRILLIANT (the point when it's used, I mean).

I find horror movies to be boring, but this one really intrigues me...

The Devil's Rejects is most certainly NOT a horror film. This piece of shit, and yes I did call this movie a piece of shit, is nothing more than a 1970's exploitation film, way moreso than House of 1K Corpses.

Corey, I do agree with the first quote you listed, that was a great exchange. About the only time I was even remotely interested in this one was when it was trying, even thought most of the time it was trying way too hard, to be funny. I would have left the theater if I was there by myself.

Skip this mess and go see a true film this weekend, Hustle & Flow.

With the exception of the first few minutes of House of 1000 Corpses, I absolutely hated it. It seemed like it was trying way too hard to be the TCM but without Leatherface. I agree with whoever said it in an earlier post, it seemd like it was trying to be disturbing, just for the sake of being disturbing. Sure, I felt sorry for the torment the characters had to go through, but overall it was a crap movie. Watching Baby scalp that one guy while she sat in his lap talking about what a cute little bunny he was, was pretty damned sick. The LONG DRAWN OUT scene with whoever it was holding the gun to the Sheriff's head was kinda lame, IMO. Me and a lot of the other people in the theatre thought that the film had froze. I probably wont be seeing the Devil's Rejects until the dvd release.

I just got back and even though I hated House I LOVED this movie. It was just awesome. I've always had a thing for the 70's cowboy/texas/serial killer/shoot out type movies and this one didn't disappoint.

Course I thought it was kind of weird that they tried to make the characters seem so sympathetic towards the end there.

That's why our views on House are different, methinks. I couldn't even begin to guess the last time I was scared by a movie; maybe when I first saw the Exorcist as a pre-teen. Horror movies are NOT scary to me because they're not real ... so if I said that I hated a horror movie because it didn't scare me, I'd hate all horror movies.

I'm in about the same boat. I though Corpses was a fucking pile of crap movie - just seemed not thought out very much by Zombie as a whole. Devil's Rejects is almost the complete opposite of that, as you can tell they really made a conscious effort to draw you into a compelling story from start to finish and deliver with plenty of sick gore, blatant nudity, etc. A friend of mine had to really twist my arm to see it yesterday and I'm glad I did. Rob's wife looked absolutely smokin in this one too.

I would assume the ending leaves open a sequal possibly when you think about it?

I tried to see this today(im only 15) and I couldnt because apparently my local theatre is only letting those over 17 see it. My dad was there and was going to buy the ticket for me, but the theatre wouldnt let me in.

Otherwise, I thought House if 1,000 Corpses was good for about the first 25 mins, otherwise I didn't think it was spectacular, but I am looking forward to watching Devils Rejects at another theatre sometime very soon.

I enjoyed this movie a bunch, however I agree with the "It was not Horror, it was 70's Exploitation" sentiment.

I really liked a lot of the dialouge, as I could be heard LOL in the theater while others might have been feeling uneasy or uncomfortable in their seats.

Is it true that

DDP actually does the Diamond Cutter in the movie, and yells BANG! after he does it? Just sounds So. Fucking. Stupid.
