Are there any Blackhawk fans around here to tell me about this guy McCarthy. We traded for him today.

Back on topic, Teemu Selanne signed with the Ducks.

I'm surprised that no one else signed Teemu before this, especially since he was willing to sign for only a million. I'd have loved to have seen him in a Bruins uniform.

I thought he was restricted thats why I never thought of his name.

And for a mil, oh man put him beside Koivu in Montreal...

As a Bruins fan, that's a major sucks donut ... none of the other NE teams had really improved this off-season until now.

Goblin, I'm pretty sure they moved Hossa to be able to keep both Redden & Chara, so it's unlikely that either of them will be moved.

Bob, you're so going to hell for a joke like that. Luckily, there's going to be a lot of us there, so we can all still message board together.

Is Ottawa really trying to rely on Hasek? I mean Philips and De Vries are good second line d-man, and can step up when needed.

Volchenkov should be ready to step up to the second pairing on D.

This is a huge upgrade. Heatley needed a change of scenery, and should finally give the Senators something they've lacked for years -- a very talented Canadian forward with experience. Spezza will get there, but isn't there yet.

Wow...tremendous.

Rumour: the defenceman is either Chris Phillips or Greg de Vries.

better be de vries, or the sens lost the trade.

edit

good they kept phillips. hossa always seemed soft to me, same with alfredsson. they need to dump him for like a david legwand or something.

Alfredsson's shown more fire in recent years. I think he was pulled down into the team-killing black hole that was Alexei Yashin, and has finally emerged.

Hossa has always seemed soft, and I don't mind trading him away for someone of Heatley's calibre at all.

Hossa is a better player than Heatley, with a better defensive and physical game. The only reason this makes sense for Ottawa is to save money. Atlanta improves bigtime with this deal by getting a forward with no injury concerns who should pair well with Heatley, and a defenseman who immediately becomes one of their top guys.

I disagree, this is a pretty even trade.

It's easy to forget how good a player Hossa is, but Heatley will fit into Ottawa like the pants of a man with five penises.( to anyone who knows that I hacked this from)

DeVries will be missed in Ottawa, but the Sens are lucky that Phillips didn't leave town.

This also clears up some room for Chara and Redden to re-sign.

Also, the trouble in this for Atlanta is that I recall Kovalchuk basically refusing to sign if Heatley wouldn't do likewise.

Both teams benefit, assuming Kovalchuk re-signs.

Yes I do. Dany Heatley is a one-dimensional offensive player. Hossa is much better defensively and uses his size more effectively. Their offensive numbers are similar. Way too many people make Heatley out to be something he isn't, in fact he's arguably the most overrated player in the NHL, in terms of "all-around play".

the only way hossa is a better is if the rumors of heatley being slows down with knee & vision problems is true. otherwise, you are a silly silly uneducated hockey fan. heatley was on his way to being a franchise player in the league. moreso than hossa, who like a lot of players of the same cloth, disappear when the game gets too physical. he's a floater and soft. there's a reason why the sens were shedding him. same reason why most teams do better when they dump jagr or pavel bure...except for the fact that hossa isn't nor will never ne half as good as those two players once were. or in jagrs case, still is.

You guys obviously don't watch any hockey if you think Heatley is a tough gritty player while Hossa is a soft floater. Something tells me that if you flipped the nationalities around your opinions would reverse pretty quickly as well. I'm sure next you will be telling me how Heatley is better than Kovalchuk, which is just as laughable.

This trade on paper seems like a mismatch...for Atlanta.

See, I agree with everyone saying that Heatley was || that close to arriving in the league prior to his accident. He was better than a point per game player before that happened. However, the accident and subsequent injury are the kinds of things that can effect a player long-term. To his credit, Heatley returned and put up 25 points in 31 games. But I'd like to see him do that long term. He's unselfish and ready to take on the world it seems which is exactly what Ottawa needs.

Hossa is not a physical player. He shies away from contact for the most part, preferring to focus on offense and sometimes his defense (which is underrated and I feel that he's better than Heatley in that respect.) He's gotten it done in the playoffs, he's been a go-to guy. Now, he's going to be tested though, as he and Kovalchuk are pretty much IT as far as the offense goes. Now he's without all of the other weapons that Ottawa has, so we'll see what he's really made of. For Atlanta to get Greg deVries in this trade makes me give them the "edge" so to speak, since he has size and that's something Atlanta needed.

Short term "edge": Atlanta. Acquiring a top line wing to help them, as well as an above-average defenseman.

Long Term "edge": Ottawa. Getting a 24 year old player ready to enter his prime and be a franchise cornerstone.

I would say Heatley's linemates (Marc Savard and Slava Kozlov) are quite superior to the guys Hossa was playing with (Vaclav Varada and Radek Bonk).

???

Bonk is a third line centre and he plays for Montreal. Varada is a third line/fourth line player.

Heatly will most likely play with Alfreddson or Spezza
