EricMM 0 Report post Posted July 28, 2005 I would just like to say that I saw that "Helena" video. I would also like to say that everything that is wrong about that video, is everything that is wrong with that whole ... sound. Which is becoming everything that is wrong about so called rock. I'd say that I've seen half to one third of these videos, none of them good. MTV has always pushed the boundries of suck in my head, but when J.Cash lost to Missy Elliot, that's when I stopped caring. Long overdue, I know, but it was just so clear. Anyone who is under the impression that MTV2 plays videos needs to watch more TV. Or perhaps is on the right path. Either way, as a previous poster said, ever since the superbowl, when that two headed dog thing appeared during halftime, it's been all about the Sunday Night Stew shows on MTV2. All Wondershowzen, Andy M. show, Wildboys and other shows like that. Suffice to say, it's no longer watched. And I would like to raise another point: What is it about "music TV" that makes it such an unmarketable product? All the "music" channels, like MTV, VH1, and MTV2 have voluntarily removed 90% of the music from their lineups. Music Videos can't be THAT unproductive, I can't imagine them costing less than a bunch of new shows every few months. What's going on? It was a bit before I got cable, but MTV used to be THE THING to watch. What happened?

What happened? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I was always under the impression MTv/VH1/whoever were provided the videos for free by the record companies. Apparently, though, "The Real 70s House World Punk'd My Newlywed's Ride" gets good enough ratings that they can charge enough for advertising to make up whatever production costs + whatever they were making from commericals when they showed videos. Also, the song "Holla Back Girl" may sound like something an 8th grader got booed off the stage for at the middle school talent show, but goddamn if Gwen don't look fine as hell in the video. Der Kommissar 0 Report post Posted July 28, 2005 All the "music" channels, like MTV, VH1, and MTV2 have voluntarily removed 90% of the music from their lineups. Hey now, you can still watch music videos on VH1, as long as you're awake between 3 and 10 in the morning, or watch their Top 20 Countdown! The funny thing is that I saw a commercial the other day for VH1 talking about how they're "all about the music!" Odd, I think if I turned on VH1, I would be more likely to see a B or C level celebrity than I would music. What happened? The same thing that's happening to a lot of the older cable stations lately. They are trying to increase their audience by showing stuff that caters to as wide of a variety of people as possible in an attempt to get ratings, or be something more than a station that caters to a certain niche. It's not a bad thing, really. There is only so much music related programming to show. Mind you, I think it's silly to go away from music programming as much as VH1 and MTV have, but at least there are other choices out there like Fuse, VH1 Classic, or the internet should someone want their music fix. Damaramu 0 Report post Posted July 28, 2005 Yeah but MTV doesn't cater to everyone. Yeah what they show appeals to the masses but I know I can't identify with half of the rich spoiled kids they put on their TV shows. Like Laguna Beach....that's not the majority of kids in America. But it's what every kid in America wants to be. A rich spoiled brat who has all these dramatic "problems" that are laughable to people with real problems. And MTV is the kind of promoting underage drinking. I think every show they has involves it somehow.
Boon 0 Report post Posted July 28, 2005 The best video of this year was definitely Jessica Simpson's video. Muted, that thing was gold.

A couple of black guys!" Because, seriously, that show really sucks and needs SOMETHING...
JHawk 0 Report post Posted July 28, 2005 Anybody else notice that the vast majority of this is focused on videos that have only recently been released as it is? Congratulations, you've won an award based on the last two months.

NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2005 Oh and what in the hell exactly is a "Holla back girl" ? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Jesus, man. Go be white somewhere else. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It has nothing to do with that really, it is not like I am confused at every day modern "lingo" or anything, I am hip, or down or whatever...lol, it is just "holla back girl" that I have honestly never even heard used in real life. I mean I have a couple guesses, but would rather just have someone explain it.

I am sure it empowers all the sluts in those meat markets, as they get onto the dance floor to sing and dance about how they aren't "holla back girls" immediately followed by their fifth shot of peach schnapps and a hook-up with a total stranger later that night....but hey, they aren't a "holla back girl" whatever the fuck that means anyways. Gary Floyd 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2005 More of a question than a complaint: Why wasn't Interpols video for "Evil" noiminated for anything? Believe me, more people are going to remember that video than anything else on the list of nominated videos. Also, I really hate My Chemical Romance. They're tied with Good Charlolette and Simple Plan as the "New Creed" in my book.
