Campaign 2008

Recommended Posts

Ron Paul ran well under Ed Thompson's numbers from 2002 (gubernatorial election). That's disappointing.

Maybe the LP will run Ed as their presidential candidate this year.

Hillary winning off of FL and MI would just be a disaster of epic proportions. I remember talk about how Michigan actually looked like a win for Obama seeing as how like 40% of the vote was for people who actually showed up to cast their vote for 'none of the above.'

But yeah, if she got the win from a contest where Obama wasn't even on the ballot?? That would not go over well.

I think her campaign's problem is that it's running like the same old primary campaign. Where you try to target local stuff and get really dirty if need be. And then it's a clean slate for the general election. However, because of the insane amount of interest in this primary that's really not the case.

It seems like it's a 3 way national general election right now.

The word on the street is that the Obama campaign and New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg have already met and devised an incredible plan if Clinton wins the nominee.

Mayor Bloomberg would give nearly $1 billion to Obama's campaign after which Obama would bolt from the Democratic Party and run as an Independent candidate with king-maker Bloomberg as his running mate. The Obama campaign realizes that Obama is too new at this game and doesn't have the political weight of the Clintons to bring in the true heavy-hitters of the party's hierarchy. So, according to sources it was Bloomberg himself who suggested this cunning strategy. It's mind boggling that the Clintons are willing to destroy the entire Democratic Party, and potentially in the process lose the White House and seats in Congress, for their own selfish thirst for power and glory.

SWERVE~!

This article is by Armstrong Williams, the guy the Bush administration was paying to shill for No Child Left Behind on the radio.

I still think this whole thing is setting up for a "miracle" Hillary comeback to win the nomination. I cant see an Obama/Bloomberg 3rd party ticket. It would essentially screw Obama over for the rest of his political career if he doesnt win and theres always the probability that McCain wins over Hillary and he could run again in 4 years. Let Bloomberg run himself and spend his own money on himself.

I think that's where being a graceful loser could help Hillary. She says she quits for the good of the party, says she's putting everything behind Obama, and everyone says 'Hillary's not the bitch we thought.' Then, in four or eight years, depending on how Barack does, she runs again, this time with a way more positive image.

Obviously, Obama could run again. But I don't think he wants to put his kids through it.

Has mudslinging lost its impact this year? I mean Obama probably done the least of it, yet he's beating Hillary as of now. I think it may have become such commonplace to run attacking negative campaigns that people just aren't as moved by em anymore. Everyone expects the monday or October surprise now. Everyone is so covered in mud, the whole thing cancels itself out. And Obama stands out cause he's not out there throwing mud like most other candidates.

It's just that in past years these attacks on Obama's character would probable kill him just like McCain in 2000 South Carolina but they haven't. People are just sick of it.

Why does Michelle Obama hate America so much? America gave her Ivy League schools, fancy cars, jet planes, beautiful women...I just don't get it.

I don't think she hates America, but I'm also not the one who had my ancestors violently oppressed for 400 years. Imagine how much better America would have been if instead of turning generation after generation of black people into slaves, share-croppers, and janitors, the opportunities had been there for them to be doctors, engineers, and scientists?

A woman who says she is finally proud of America is remembering that her people weren't even allowed to participate in the American dream until her lifetime, and now sees we're on the verge of electing an African-American president. You can't fault her for seeing it that way.

Well, I think the issue is more that, even a decade after the Keating scandal, the would-be champion of ethics and "straight talk" was once again doing particularly egregious special favors for lobbyists. It doesn't bother me that much since pretty much everyone in D.C. fucks around like that, but it's more hypocritical than usual. The "omg was he bangin' that gurl" stuff is pretty who-gives-a-shit, yes.

That's a half-truth. I just find that the most amusing way to expose the fallacy of an argument is to present it in the dumbest way possible.

When I read it, it was worded exactly like something Rush Limbaugh would say.

I don't really think the story about McCain and the lobbyist will have legs. I put it in the campaign trivia category....stuff people who don't like him will always bring up, but ultimately doesn't change anyone's vote.

The Marquette student/superdelegate that Chelsea took out to eat a couple weeks ago has endorsed The Muslim Cult Leader.

There are some really easy improper jokes just sitting with that one. Too easy in fact. And I second the question of how the hell did he become a superdelegate?

The other aspect of the Times story is the New Republic was set to report on internal dissension within the news staff on whether to run the McCain story or not. Kind of set up a use it or lose it situation.

This is kind of reminding me of the Dan Rather/Bush documents story.

I don't trust twentysomethings to do anything important. I barely trust myself to assemble a balanced breakfast, let alone pick the most qualified presidential candidate.

Well...

is anyone really that SHOCKED that a male college student would go with the cool young black guy over the angry old white woman?

Hillary, somehow, closed the debate with remarks more passionate than anything said through just about all of the debates. She was saying shit "we'll all be fine," shook Obama's hand, and the crowd were just like one of those, you know, Waco things. The standing ovation for her lasted what seemed like minutes. It ended the debate.

It probably wont help her. But it might indicate she'll exit with class rather being a bitch.

I'm curious if anyone can envision a scenario in which McCain could win a presidential election.

Consider that:

-he's quite old

-he can't publicly speak worth a crap

-he's hated within his own party

-he whole-heartedly supports a war that's about as popular as a heart attack

-he belongs to the same party as the unpopular incumbent president

Thoughts?

Black babies and liking sex might hurt him too?
