Madden NFL 06 Thread

I just received the September issue of Xbox Magazine earlier today, wherein Madden NFL 06 was reviewed. The game got a shockingly low 8.0/10. That's not a bad score whatsoever, but I expected more for Madden, especially with NCAA 06 getting a 9.1.

 

I'm not going to transcribe the review now, but I may later. I'm just hoping the game turns out well enough to warrant a purchase. I skipped NCAA in favor of Madden since I want a pro game with online play. I haven't played the series since 2001, however, choosing instead to stick to 2K Sports football.

 

With that said, I figured we'd need a thread about the game with the release date coming up in mere days. Have at it.

I ordered the game online, and with it came a free Fantasy football thingy. It shall be an interesting time for Johnny Tijuana...

From some of the reviews I have read, most people say the SuperStar Mode is one of the best features to be in the game in some time. Personally, I prefer on-field improvements but this still seems like a very cool feature. I also really like the Vision and Precision aspect of the game. For once in this series, having a top notch Quarterback actually makes a difference.

I don't know if people here live in nyc but already all the eb's are saying that if you didn't pre order madden you won't get it on tues. So with that said this would be the game. Don't go by reviews matt, cuz they are to bias i noitce a lot. I think for football fans and hardcore sim football fans madden 06 is the game to get. PLus if you are tired of all the cheesers and cheaters online just get off and you have fun offline. Plus you got to get this so we can play lol.

will this have the option of hiring and firing coaches or even create-a-coach (along withhis playbook)? I have this weird desire to mirror real life personnel changes in all of my sports games and it always irked me that you could never change coaches...

i think you can like in season mode (your own coach), but I just mean as an addition to roster editor modes...

Yeah you can fire and hire coaches but you never get the right coach to mirror real life, like Lushus wants. Bill Belichick also always retires after one season on the game, citing he ran out of fingers for the SB rings...

Just to comment on the highlighted part of the post. I dont know if all EB Games stores are like this, but the ones in my area are notorious for being absolute pricks when it comes to first day game sales. They ONLY order what is preordered of a game, and no other copies. I know for a fact that the manager of one of the EB Games likes to do this, not only to be an asshole, but to create the ILLUSION that a game is hard to find. It's pretty much useless to go into an EB Games when a game goes on sell, because if you didnt preorder it, odds are the assholes didnt order enough copies to go around.

 

Back on topic though, an 8.0 score, while not being bad, is still kind of below my expectations for a Madden game. You'd think that with EA holding an exclusive for the NFL, that the game would be damn near perfect. I do agree with the previous poster who said it's probably the reviewers holding a grudge over EA being an NFL exclusive game developer, so theyre probably interntionally giving the game crap reviews. Tuesday will tell though.

Sorry, I guess I just had myself convinced that with EA being NFL exclusive, that they would try a little harder this year. Looks like you get the "You can play the ESPN game for the next 5 years, or enjoy whatever we decide to throw together" response from EA.

Look it was early in the morning when I post it and I was having a bad day so fuck off. Now back to madden, I had a feeling something was strange because madden never really sells out like that. I never ever in my life thought that I had to pre order a sports game due to the fact that it wouldn't be any left the next day. I pre-ordered mine but it was off the internet. I had tried to pre-order it in the store, and they told me I missed the deadline so I would have to wait for the NEXT shipment. I am not surprised that it seems to be selling well already, what with the innovative Superstar mode and the precision passing features. I just hope I get my game in a timely manner since they'd be shipping it directly from their warehouse.

Hey Porter what time did you did your pre order off the internet? Did you do it with ebgames, according to them you have till sun to do in store pickup.

 

Also I just got finish watching helements off on fox sports. Watching that just got me even more hype for tues. I can't wait to play madden it is going to be hot.

I didn't know they put brock lesnar in the game. If he is that would be interesting to see what # they gave him.

cool you can play as Brock? reminds me of when I went back and played nfl 95 which had Bill Goldberg on the Falcolns Defense. I got a lot of sacks with old Berg.

Well if you want to play with a sucky DT, by all means, go with Brock. You'd have to sign him first, as someone else mentioned he is a free agent.

Edit: Though I just remembered there are two Ricky Williams playing HB, so this could be the other guy. If that's the case, then oh well. There is no Ricky Williams WITH the Dolphins, as Ronnie Brown is their starter.

That is the other Ricky. I sign him as a backup alot in franchise modes, because he has 90+ speed and 70+ overall.
