Stephen Joseph 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2005 So, for those who want to know what Mo is up too, here's the deal. WWE offered to put him back down in OVW, take a pay cut, and then they said they'll repackage and bring him back 6 months to a year. Mark still feels like he was screwed, so he went down to OVW to see friends and talk, and is now flying to Los Angeles to meet with a talent agent to see if he can get into acting. He'll be making a decision of which path to take in the next few weeks. word.
Team Angle Pusher 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2005 Where the hell did you get this from? Hassan will take acting first I think because he doesn't want to wait a year to get back on TV and he'll get less money then before while he was scheduled to become the WORLD CHAMPION at Summerslam!! Hassan has tons of charisma so he'll probably cut it as an actor.

cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2005 It's hard to feel that sorry that he didn't get the title considering he had zero business being in a main event anyway. I think his career is basically finished. Even if he's repackaged he's still going to be identified as Hassan, which is the problem of doing such a gimmick. I think Nick Dinsmore has the same trouble getting past being Eugene (someone like Rob Conway however can simply drop the goofy French gimmick and do something else). It would help if Magnus was known to WWE fans as Mark Magnus. Perhaps they should have brought him up under that name for a while, then had him do a heel turn and convert to Islam (which is what he did on OVW to justify his new gimmick). Thus if they wanted to kill the character off at some point he could simply go back to his previously established Magnus character and apologize for his actions. Astro7x 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2005 I think Nick Dinsmore has the same trouble getting past being Eugene <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That is something they can change from a story line perspective though. Weather it be heel turn and it being faked, or Eugene takes a huge bump or a hit to the head and it fixes his, um... retardedness.
dubq 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2005 They could also easily fix Dinsmore by just changing his look. He barely even looks like Eugene here: http://obsessedwithwrestling.com/pictures/...dinsmore/01.jpg Change his hair colour and he'd look even more separated from the Eugene gimmick. Masked Man of Mystery 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2005 (edited) Yeah, a shave and a haircut will do wonders. Remember, they wanted people to think Matt Morgan had never wrestled in WWE before just because he dyed his hair a differant color(ie Samba Simba and Heenan's remark(I think it was Heenan)) Actually, those are very bad examples of repackaging...forget it I ain't thinking straight Edited August 10, 2005 by Masked Man of Mystery

Until real life retarded kids started dropping themselves on their heads to become 'normal', that is.
dubq 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2005 I always thought that Kane was a great example of repackaging a wrestler. Two hugely embarassing gimmicks [isaac & Fake Diesel] and then the character Kane. Sure he had to wear a mask, but it worked out in the end when he had to take it off.

Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2005 If he quits WWE or ends up getting fired, imagine the goldmine TNA could have if they signed the guy. He could come in as Mark Magnus (or whatever, it doesn't really matter), and talk about how WWE forced him to play a character everyone hated so they could make money off terrorism, just like they did with Sgt. Slaughter during the Persian Gulf War. He could then say that since WWE didn't have the balls to stand behind their own creation, he came to TNA to prove he could be a champion by being himself, and not being Vince McMahon's puppet. It could be a huge angle for TNA. Like it or not, the guy was practically a main eventer in WWE, and his presence would give TNA a huge boost. Plus, it would make WWE look like a bunch of asses, which is what they want anyway.

King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2005 Yeah, Invader's idea worked okay for Raven, but Raven wasn't completely incompetent in the ring and could actually cut a promo without sounding like William Shatner with a sore throat.
daileyxplanet 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2005 I'll be glad when WWE doesn't have to deal with Viacom's bullcrap anymore. To be honest, couldn't they have had a conversion at GAB, like maybe, a Saul/Paul seeing the light kinda thing? Then he could "prove" it by helping some face getting beaten up. Then from there, a feud between UT and the new Mark Magnus (Muslim names are often given when converted, why not new names when denouncing?) where Mark is a sort of milk and cookies babyface trying to rid the WWE of Satanic iconography, ala a face RTC. Fro 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2005 Mark Magnus in OVW looked *NOTHING* like Hassan, so there's hope for him. He definitely looks very Italian without the beard and Muslim garb. I hope he gets another shot because he's a great talker who the WWE called up before he was ready wrestling-wise.

Suck it up man, it's not your fault your gimmick was deemed too hot for television. The fact that Hassan might leave the business for good just proves he wasn't in it for the right reasons. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> How do you figure? He got completely fucked over by this company, that's got to shatter some confidence as to whether or not he has a chance to do anything in wrestling, period. He's the equivalent to a type casted Doogie Houser type. He could shave all the hair off his body, he's still going to be looked at as Hassan. It's a fucked situation, he should consider leaving, simply because he has to know this will follow him like a dark cloud throughout his career in wrestling. As for WWE "offering" to send him to OVW and to take a paycut and be called back up 6 months from now for some bullshit gimmick that'll just end up making him a complete joke, for christ's sake, Hassan, get into acting. I don't know how big you can get, but it's gotta be better than this bullshit. And for the person that said "99.9%" of the people cryin over Hassan's situation didn't give a fuck about dude before? No. Or count me as that .1%
Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 Sounds like another angle killed due to political correctness. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'd say, "Sounds like another awful shock angle killed, hopefully never to return." Seriously, angles like this are bad shit, especially this one since they forever taint the people associated with it. People still talk about Sgt Slaughter the sympathizer, and he got death threats at the time. That Mark went through with this angle proves that he's either dumb, desperate, or deep down inside beats the heart of a company man.
The Buzz 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 Well WWE is going to continue to 'issue' gimmicks out like this until a majority of the wrestlers stand up and try to talk some sense into the company about letting wrestlers play more of an extension of their personality, as that works best. The gimmick thing isn't even completely useless. It does turn out good on occasion, but they've been shelling out gimmicks and producing storylines for 20 years that a show like Mad TV would even think was too corny to touch. The WWE has had their peak periods, and can call themselves geniuses. But what are they a genius for? Having millions of dollars to try a million different ideas and seeing which ones stick? I'm not a promoter and I'm not a "workrate is the saving grace of wrestling" type fan. However, I do belive a group with the money of a WWE should have no problems producing a smart "fictional reality sports" program. It's not hard...you don't destroy talent in two minute squashes that you plan on giving pushes to a year from now. You develop a ranking system based on wins and losses to establish contenders rather than whoever gets to the ring first at the beginning of the show to challenge HHH. Put people who know wrestling in charge...Cornette, Heyman, McMahon, etc. etc. I know they don't get along well, but with money to be made, anyone can get along. Oh and since I got wayyyy off topic, I am going to make my comment. I haven't watched WWE in probably 2 months now, but Hassan entertained me enough, and while I only know of the controversy via the net. All I can say is they've done worse before, and hopefully he'll do good for himself wherever he goes.

Stephen Joseph 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 Just a few things 1) Hassan was scheduled to beat the Undertaker and win @ Summerslam against Batista. 2) Mainly, its an issue of a lack of faith and trust in WWE Creative to actually do something. That, and there's a massive paycut in being demoted back to OVW.
