While the Rey Mysterio/Eddie Guerrero custody saga might come off as a run-of-the-mill soap opera storyline to the many WWE viewers, to one person, the pain and anguish expressed by the performers is all too real.

While he's obviously heavily briefed as to its fiction, sources indicate that between witnessing his father cry, Eddie Guerrero portray a heartless villain and thousands of live fans sell the angle as legitimate, it would be impossible for someone in Dominick's position not to experience some sort of trauma.

 

The custody battle, which is the latest development in an ongoing feud between Guerrero and Mysterio, will lead to another match between the two at Summerslam. Well, I'm guessing that Rey felt that being able to show off some semblance of character depth would be good for both himself and Eddie. While I wouldn't have had Rey beat Eddie in both of their prior matchups, I'd rather have Rey and Eddie get a chance to do a 'serious' storyline than to be saddled with midcard-level angles. I mean, you can only have Rey and Eddie do 'respect' feuds and 'one partner double-crosses the other' angles for so long before it gets a little repetitive.

Well in this case it doesn't seem like it's just Vince. It was Rey who apparently thought up this angle and wanted his son involved.

 

Am I the only one who thinks it's a mistake to let Rey reveal his personality in an angle? Think about it, when he's at his most over it's usually when he's just getting in and wrestling. Bischoff also had the idea of taking his mask off to make him more marketable, but that resulted in Rey's most irritating work ever (No Limit anyone?).

 

Now he's showing more personality but also accidentally coming off like a dick, he's become the live action Roadrunner to Eddie's Coyote. His whole spiel making fun of Eddie for not beating him only makes me want to side with Eddie in the end.
