Braves pull out 5 runs in the 8th and manage to avoid the season sweep against the Padres. Huzzah.

Chipper with two homers in the game, including a two-run shot (at a breaking ball, INTO the Wrigley wind) in the ninth to take a 4-2 lead.

Damn.

Chipper drives in all 4 Atlanta runs and Hudson gets his first complete game of the year as Atlanta wins 4-2. Huzzah

I'd like to see one of the first pitchers to face Bonds throw at him. I don't have a problem with the guy, but the integrity of the game needs to be upheld.

The Padres offense has flaws, if The San Fran starting pitching holds up, Latroy and Benitez hold together the bullpen, and Alou and Bonds are hitting they could make a run at it.

The Blue Jays finally appear to be done. I'd like to believe otherwise, but I don't see them making up 5 1/2 games on three different teams with only 5 1/2 weeks left. Unfortunately, they picked the absolute worst time to go on a prolonged losing streak.

How do the Yankees get shut down for 4 innings and have one hit against a guy who the league bats .300 against and has given up THIRTY more hits than innings?

This is definitley one of those non-existent hitting games the Yanks have.

edit: The Yankees load the bases with no outs, then fuck it up by only scoring one run. And the entire inning lasts SIX pitches! How the fuck do you do that?

edit2: Is Torre on crack? He lets Leiter start the 8th at 120 PITCHES, instead of bringing in a fresh Sturtze. UGH.

Joey Devine has given up 2 grand slams...and he hasn't even thrown 2 full innings.

With Thompson and Hampton coming back and having a battle over who can be more ineffective, the Braves are fucked.

It's done to personally piss you off.

Apparently Steve Trachsel will make his return start this Friday, and Zambrano will be shunted to the bullpen.

Oh yeah, and Danny Graves was designated for assignment. :)

Amazing game going on right now between the Sox and Twins. Scoreless going into the bottom of the 8th and Garcia has a no-hitter, while Santana's only given up two hits. Lew Ford just made a catch in center that perserved the scoreless tie, though.

So...is ANYONE in this bullpen going to have just a nice, clean, 1-2-3 9th? Is it in their contracts that they HAVE to give up a run or two just to make the game "interesting"? You can get away with it against the Royals, but not against actual good teams.

Goddamn, Mets are just destroying the Diamondbacks 14-1. With everyone in the NL East and Wild Card Races besides the Phillies having lost or losing, this could be a very big night.

Brewers beat the Marlins last night in an impressive win, 11-2 at Miller Park.

The youth movement is in full effect right now for the Brewers...their three rookies in Rickie Weeks, JJ Hardy, and Corey Hart all looked great, along with Bill Hall playing very nicely at 3B. Just wait 'til next year when Prince Fielder is playing every day...

Chris Capuano got his 14th win last night...the first Brewer to reach that mark since Cal Eldred in 1993, amazingly enough.

I'm not going to sit here and make predictions about obtaining the Wildcard spot this year, but .500 is looking very achievable at this point for the Brew Crew.
