I didn't know which forum to put this in (WWE or GW) so forgive me for putting iti n the wrong forum. I was watching the Mania of Wrestlemania on my Wrestlemania XX DVD and it seems each Austin/Rock match has cemented something.

Wrestlemania 15 - Cemented Rock as a main event player

Wrestlemania 17 - One of the last original finishes and last great heel turns

Wrestlemania 19 - Stone Cold's last match

Which was the best? Which was your favorite?

I voted 17 but I will always have a soft spot for Rock/Austin at WM15. It was my first Wrestlemania and I had just started watching in the November, the week before Survivor Series Rock heel turn. I guess I was full on Mark but I remember loving that show and will always remember Austin needing to use 2 Stunners to put down the Rock. Ah, memories.

This is one of those triologies that you really can't debate which was the "best" of.

Samoa Joe Vs CM Punk (There's a even arguement for II and III)

Flair Vs Steamboat (Even arguement for Clash and WrestleWar)

...

The Rock Vs Steve Austin (No arguement. WMX7)

edit: By no means would I compare the whole Rock/Austin series to those two other trios.

I know I started this poll months, if not a year...ago.

I just can't find it.

But I KNOW I made it a long time ago.

whiner... :P

gotta go with 17....the ending was just so "WTF"...

I'm not whining, just stating a fact.

Anyway, like that one I created, I'm voting 19. Because it's the only one that actually, you know, was JUST Rock/Austin, and no involvement by McMahon at all.

WM 17, easily.

Who the hell voted for WM 15? It wasn't even the best Rock-Austin match from that year.

The only advantage of WMXV was that it had a longer epic build to it, while WMX7 was quickly set up and had the whole Debra shit and WMXIX was Rock carrying the promo awesomeness but no real story.

I've said it before, I'll say it again, if the WWF went out of business the day after WM X-7, Rock/Austin would have been the perfect match to end everything on. One of the best matches I've ever seen, bad ending or not.

It is WM 17 without a doubt. At WM 15 Rock really wasn't on Austin's level, just some punk holding the title until Austin could win it from him. By 19 Austin was a shell of himself and the Rock destroyed him in uninspiring fashion. 17 was the only one where both men were on relatively equal ground and it was certainly the best match.

It's not even close.  I think their Mania 17 match is Rock's best match ever.

Agreed and this match gives Survivor Series 1996 a real run for it's money for Austin's best match ever.

I voted for WM15 just to fuck up the poll, the obvious choice is WM17.

Though I'll always have to wonder just why in the hell they went with that ending. I'll never forget watching that match live, going on such a ride, then seeing that ending.

If I had to choose between the two, I'd go for SS 1996 easily. We saw what Austin can do on his own at SS, and it showed that he doesn't need the shortcuts to have a great match. Not to mention a clean finish.

I have more fond memories of Wrestlemania X-7 and the Austin vs Rock match than any other PPV ever. I wish the DVD didn't cost so much on the secondary market though, but I'll just wait to pick up the box set later this year and relive my favorite night in wrestling history.

I feel the same way. Wrestlemania X-7 was actually the first pay-per-view I ever watched live. I didn't realise at the time that I'd witnessed (arguably) one of the finest pay-per-views of all time, and it's unfortunately been all downhill from there.

Clearly, Austin/Rock at WM X7 is superior to XV and X9.

Same here. Except that I ordered WM2000 (plus the All Day Long thing) previously. Although, for some reason, I was (and still am) just as into the Angle/Benoit match.

WM 19 was a good spectacle and Rock played a great heel, but Austin was so beat up it was never going to be a clasic match

IIRC, wasn't it a little before WM 19 when Austin had to be taken to the hospital after collapsing from dehydration or something? I saw something about that a year or two ago on TV on a WWE special (could have been on UPN), which could have explained why Austin/Rock at WM 19 wasn't too great.

I also think it was Austin's last year of being an active wrestler for a while, too, since his neck injury had taken its toll on him that year.

17 by far. The crowd going crazy for Austin and booing Rock only to have Austin turn was crazy. Plus the next night Austin started using words like Sassin' and stroking JR's cowboy hat.

15 was kind of boring and predictable

19 was overdue cause of the WCW/ECW vs. WWF/E angle. Rock and Austin didn't have a PPV match during that angle.

Yeah, according to Austin's book, he had to be hospitalized the day before the match. By all accounts, he was a mess. How he even got into the ring and worked a coherent match is a minor miracle.

I had wanted Austin to go heel for over a year by that point, so I loved the ending to X-7. The best main event in Wrestlemania history as far as I'm concerned, and the biggest since Hogan/Warrior.

Clearly, I'm the oddball, but having not watched either match in over 2 years, I honestly remember enjoying XV better than X-7. I though the build to XV was way better and the payoff made more sense. Yes I thought X-7 was worked better, but in all, I was more into XV. It was the sole bright spot on absolutely abysmal show, but both guys played their roles to perfection. Though the mark in me was dying a slow death at the point, I really wanted to see the Rock get his because I was still heartbroken from the heel turn. I thought that if Austin beat the Rock, Vince would abandon and Rock would turn back (and I was right).
