Opening acts

i never once said i hated bloc party.  did i? i just resent beefcakes like you who go their shows.  it kinda ruins my fun.  sorry.

i misfired on the american eagle comment.  ok here's another one.  skateboarding shoes.  baggy jeans.  and a DC t-shirt.  maybe a backwards ball cap or a snowboard toque in the winter.  talk about weak as fuck.

image has nothing to do with how you judge artists? how did you primarily judge the kills? how they acted.

anyway this conversation is dead to me.  i better leave before c-bacon "debases" everything i say by posting a witty picture in an attempt to prove how big of an idiot he really is.

Gotta love generalizations. Get over yourself.

Consequently, I better stop replying before I get anoter irrelevant retort about how listening to Matthew Good relates to any post I make in this folder. Of course it'll be riddled by the word 'fag' or 'dumb ass' and other inane 'attacks' that might often be heard from the school yard you cannot seem to grow out of. Good luck with the superiority complex issue you seem to have.

Just like you're judging Game on how he acts. Now, you may think Game sucks. That's fine. But to try and pretend that 100% of your dislike for him is based on him as an artist is bullshit. Was I judging The Kills 100% on their act? No. Would I rate them as good musicians, though? No.

You are aware that when people use the term "hating" it's not meant to infer actual hatred, right? I'm being serious here because you can't seem to grasp that. No, you weren't saying that you hated Bloc Party but you seemed irked enough to mention that you wish they'd shed their mainstream image. It must suck for you, not being to look past that shit and all.

Beefcake? Jesus, kiddo. I know your slang is out there but this one is pretty good. Stick to faggot and the like. Suits you more.

I haven't seen an opening band that I've disliked in years ... I tend to skip the opening acts altogether and just go in for the bands that I want to see. Since so many of y'all have bad opening act experiences, you should give it a shot.

And, question for che v ... you used 'hipster' a few times in one of your posts. Is that term not a negative term from where you're from? I ask because when it's used around here (Boston-area) it's normally used in a negative light, it's kind of a condescending way to describe the scene. This isn't a flame, it's a legit inquiry.

I won't do opening acts for rap concerts, I'll do my best to plan my arrival for afterwards....not sure about the rest of the country, but they always bring in some local jackass that thinks he's the GOAT and there are no GOATs here in Omaha...

How bad is the local rap scene in Omaha, Lushus?

ohhhh well, our fellas try to mimmick the down south crunky-ness....crunk is bad enough (though there are a FEW decent acts out there), but the way these guys do it is way too poser-ish....here's a good example, ever heard of that group Crime Mob? Yeah, shitty...most of the stuff here is along that level of awfulness...

Ok, that's pretty terrible. Why can't the kids try to mimmick good stuff, like A Tribe Called Quest, or Wu-Tang?

Mars Volta made fools of APC?

I too find this hard to believe.

APC really took a very hard tumble in talent with their newest album. It's really really bad with only a few bright spots. Course Mars Volta isn't much better lately but better than the sludge APC is tossing out.

Oh and I don't know their name but there was a REALLY bad rap group that opened up the Snoop Dog/The Game concert in ABQ earlier this year. The Game thankfully saved it for himself and Snoop but the opener made me get up and walk away from my seat till they were done.

Wish I could remember their name cause I'd like to avoid them at all cost.

Yeah right Buck Bowen is tight. The white kid with the red afro. No, your right the local scene is horrible. Some dudes from omaha opened for Tech N9ne in lincoln and they were pretty bad.

I went to a House of Krazees(Twiztid) show in Detroit in like 97 and this guy named Eminem opened for 'em. Man he was bad, he'll never make it in the rap game.

Ok, it makes no sense...but he sounds so sure of himself. You gotta give him the nod on confidence in the stupid things he writes. APC, it doesn't sound like they remember recording an album and sounds like they aren't sure if they should be singing the songs or reading them slowly to a crowd.

What the fuck happened to them???

yeah, APC...Mer De Noms is a fantastic album, one I can listen to over and over again....13th Step is pretty "eh", though for some odd reason I really like that song "The Nurse That Loved Me"...

The past few shows I've been to, I've been blessed with getting solid opening acts such as Tiger Army and The Eyeliners for Social Distortion and The Dead 60's for Garbage. However last weekend I saw Garbage in SF and the opening act was a band called The Start, god damn they were horrid, the lead singer was like Ashlee Simpson doing an impression of Terri Nunn. Granted, I'll give their studio work a listen to see if it's better but their awful set just made Garbage's set that much better.

Disagreed. How do you take a 'tumble in talent'? Emotive was faily good stuff and I see very little wrong with Thirteenth Step.

Speaking of opening acts...I saw Saul Williams right before Volta at Bonnaroo this year. Saul was awesome, I couldnt make it through 30 minutes of MV's set.

-OneSideZero, an awful nu-metal act.

-A whole lineup of bullshit that came on before the 2 Skinnee J's (718) Farewell Extravaganza. I wish the J's told someone they were going to take the stage at midnight, it would have saved me a lot of pain.

As for openers who were better than the main act, the Foo Fighters upstaged the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Emotive was nothing but an album of horrible covers. If it weren't for "Passive" and "Blah blah blah War drum", I'd be completely disappointed and even "War Drum" isn't that good (original version of the song is about 800 times better, jesus). Thirteenth Step was great, Mer De Noms was awesome, and then this was like a child born to a couple who lived on top of a toxic waste pit, next door to a nuclear reactor while the father worked with medical waste and the mother worked with chemical weapons.

It was a horrible backstep. Every band has one of these albums but it was downright disappointing.

See I knew there was a reason why I haven't picked up "Passive" yet...plus after "The Spaghetti Incident?" I try to stay away from cover albums...

Rachel Yamagata opening for Ryan Adams was terrible. Every song was prefaced with something to the effect of "This song is about a guy that I gave my heart to and he treated me like shit." Every song. For the better part of an hour. She was one of the worst opening acts I've ever seen.
