Guest Smues Report post Posted October 3, 2005 Gm 1 HOU @ ATL Wed Oct. 5 4:00 P.M. ESPN Gm 2 HOU @ ATL Thu Oct. 6 8:00 P.M. FOX HOLY SHIT we got at least one game that won't be the earliest of the day this year. Stop the presses. Go figure it's a night I'll be in class, but I'm just happy we got one evening game this post season.

Guest Smues Report post Posted October 3, 2005 On the otherhand, when was the last time the Yankees had an afternoon playoff game? I cannot remember any. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Gm 1 NYY @ LAA Tue Oct. 4 8:00 P.M. FOX Gm 2 NYY @ LAA Wed Oct. 5 10:00 P.M. ESPN Gm 3 LAA @ NYY Fri Oct. 7 8:00 P.M. ESPN Won't be anytime soon. Edit: and now that I think about it a little bit I remember game 4 of their 2002 ALDS being in the afternoon. (probably less because of the game itself and more because of Anglesault's "THERE SURE AS FUCK HAD BETTER BE YELLING AND SCREAMING GOING ON IN THAT LOCKERROOM" thread). Whether or not that was the last time I don't know.
mike546 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2005 10 o'clock eastern time? FUCK. Since when does baseball care about the west coast for the playoffs? I don't remember the Yankees playing a 10 o'clock eastern time game against the Athletics or Angels in the three series they've played in since 01. Grr to not having home field. Guest Smues Report post Posted October 3, 2005 Here's the rest of the scheduled games. They haven't set the weekend schedule yet. Gm 1 BOS @ CWS Tue Oct. 4 4:00 P.M. ESPN Gm 2 BOS @ CWS Wed Oct. 5 7:00 P.M. ESPN Gm 3 CWS @ BOS Fri Oct. 7 4:00 P.M. ESPN2 Gm 1 SD @ STL Tue Oct. 4 1:00 P.M. ESPN Gm 2 SD @ STL Thu Oct. 6 4:00 P.M. ESPN2 That made me notice another thing, last year (if I remember correctly) the Atlanta series was the only one to have an ESPN2 game. Huzzah that not being the case this year (even though I now have ESPN).

Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2005 I suck at making predictions, but it'll be interesting to see if the ATL/Houston series plays out like it did last year. The Astros were on a major roll at the time and still had Beltran, Kent, and a healthy (sorta) Jeff Bagwell. On the plus side, they now have a dominating Pettitte, which they didn't have at all last year. Pitching is obviously going to be the key to Houston's success. I'll go out on the ledge and say... Atlanta in four Cardinals in four Angels in five Red Sox in four
KingPK 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2005 I think I'll go with Red Sox-Angels and Braves (though Houston takes them the distance)-Cardinals for my LCS. The reason people aren't picking the White Sox is because the Red Sox have mashed Chicago pitching this year (Contreras is their bitch with a career ERA over 11) and they don't have the offense to counter Boston's. I just hope that I don't have to listen to Berman call any of these games.

Just John 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2005 Astros in 4: Clemens, Pettitte, Oswalt, and don't forget Backe. The bullpen is stronger than last year's, and Lidge is still one of the top closers in the game. If the hitting manages to stay alive, watch out. Since that can't be counted on, though, I'm not looking for a sweep. Cardinals in 4: Padres win Game 1 and everyone goes "OMG collapse!!!1" Then the Cards pull out the backdoor sweep and show everyone why they're the most complete team in the NL. Or it could just be a straight sweep, but I like the Padres to steal one. White Sox in 5: Even if I didn't think the Chisox are WS material, I was sure they were ALCS material. I'm sticking to my guns plus I like the pitching combo of Garland, Buerhle, and Garcia. Yankees in 5 I do NOT want another Boston/NY ALCS, but one of these teams has to move on to spite me. Since I'm stubbornly sticking to the Chisox, I'll take the resurgent Yanks to advance.
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2005 Predictions: Cards, Astros, & Angels in 4, Red Sox in 5. Cards over the Astros in 6, Red Sox over the Angels in 7. Cards over the Red Sox in 5. Having said that, I'd love it if both the Red Sox & Yankees got eliminated in the ALDS, just because it'd fuck over FOX & ESPN by putting 'lesser' teams in their beloved ALCS. I'm sticking to my guns plus I like the pitching combo of Garland, Buerhle, and Garcia. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Jose Contreras is starting game 1 and is, effectively, the #1 starter at this point of the season for the White Sox. Buehrle is going in game 2 and either Garcia or Garland will go in game 3.
Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2005 Man I havent posted here in ahwile. My PC was screwed up for a while so I couldnt. Personally I'm glad the Yankees actaully made it in, and won the East no less (which made my gurantee of that back in May come true). I think they can beat the Angels it just depends on which Yanks team shows up. and screw Showalter for taking out 3 of his players in the 4th inning yesterday, what was he doing, resting them for the off-season? Then again its not like Texas had the pitching to win anyhow. and it seemed to me that the Yankees could care less about palying a game on sunday. I sure hope Jeters knee is ok. Of course here on the west coast everybody has already jumped on the Angels bandwagon (depsite the Dodgers fans being pissed at the LA name) and the tv guys think they will easily win. I guess we will have to wait and see. But they can get revenge for 02 and possibly revenge for 04 if they and Boston advance to the ALCS again. Let me try and predict here Yankees over Angels in 4 or 5 I think Chi-sox have a real shot at beating Boston due to better pitching and the homefield advantage. (asnd Jose Contreras staring Game 1 is possibly one of the more bizzare thoughts to ponder, but I suppose he was just not a right fit for the insane-yet wonderful to the fans- world of the Bronx) But I just can't shake the feeling that The Yanks have not seen the last of the Red Sawx this year. And revenge must be ours. Boston over Chi-Town in 5 onto the NL Cards over Padres in 3 or 4 Astros over Braves in 5 ALCS NYY over Red Sox in 7 NLCS Houston over Cards in 7 World Series NYY over Astros in 7 Of course I'm biased and this is my dream scenario. If the Yankees lose the ALDS, Ill go with a Boston-Stros WS matchup with the Astros taking it in 7 thanks to an MVP performace by Roger Clemens.
Gert T 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2005 Astros over Braves in 5. (I'm thinking this will be the best series of the first round, the Braves better not let Lidge get into the game) Cardinals over Padres in 4. (I'd go for the sweep, but I'm pretty sure Matt Morris is pitching on the road.....although Petco might keep his curveballs in the park.) Yankees over Angels in 5. (For fans of the Angels & White Sox, you'll like these picks, because I have ZERO confidence in the AL series!) Red Sox over White Sox in 4. (I think these two teams are very evenly matched, but I just don't think the Red Sox will lose at home and they just have too many bats.) Basically I'm picking 2004 LCS Re-deux. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2005 I love how people are crying about Showalter, when this wouldn't even be an issue if the Yanks had beat the D-Rays now and again.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2005 With Showalter, I think this is as much of an issue as the bunt breaking up Curt Schilling's no-hitter in 2001. It's not an issue. A lot of baseball people seem to invent new old-school ethics when something does not go their way. I don't buy it.
