TNA Comments which don't warrant a thread

Recommended Posts

From Mike Johnson:

As noted earlier in the week in the PWInsider.com Elite section, there's been a lot of talk internally within SpikeTV about expanding their relationship with TNA. While TNA has always been liked by Spike executives because they felt burned by WWE in the past, there was also something of an asterisk on TNA because it had followed UFC programming. When TNA lost very little of their audience last week without a UFC lead-in, it created a big boost for TNA within Spike. The fact that UFC's replacement comedies in the old UFC lead-in slot and the new Blade series (based on the Marvel Comics character), have not fared well, also assisted TNA in looking good to exectives. There has been increased discussion of late about different ideas for expanding the TNA-Spike relationship, specifically how TNA is used on the network.

Personally, I still say 90 minutes would be best. It wrecks advertising a bit, but at least you're not dragging things too much with 2 hours. TNA prides itself on being fast-paced... I think that pace could be lost over the course of 2 hours.

Total agreement, one of the reasons why I can handle Impact sometimes when it's crappy is because of the 1 hour format. When I watch Impact I don't get the sense that I have to put up with crap just to get the good parts. THe bad parts only last 1 to 2 minutes.

PWINSIDER however did not mention weekly two hours. I heard they mention a bi monthly or every quarter live two hour show and the chance of a weekly LIVE show. Nothing about making Impact 2 hours every week.

I really thought TNA should have hyped their primetime special as a clash of the champions type deal. Maybe if they end up with regular live 2 hour shows they can do that now. Impact going live would be interesting, but they'd have to change the timeslot first.

Impact got a 0.9 rating for last weeks show. I guess Rhino's "shoot" segment didn't help to much did it?

I'll repost this here because it might generate more reaction. This is why I think it has to be Joe vs. Sting at Bound For Glory and not Joe vs. Jarrett;

Joe beating Sting will mean more than Joe beating Jarrett, whether it’s for the title or not. The fans have twice seen someone beat Jarrett for the title and then Jarrett wind up getting the belt back relatively quickly. Having Joe beat Jarrett for the belt runs a very real risk of people thinking that they’re going to see the same thing again, with Joe getting the belt for a few months before it goes back to Jarrett again.

What the fans have not seen before is Joe beating Sting. Joe vs. Sting makes sense because they have still to resolve the issue of Joe shaking Sting’s hand at Sacrifice only to leave him to get laid out by Jarrett and Steiner. After Joe beats Sting for the title, the next night on Impact they can have Joe shake Sting’s hand, before teasing Joe leaving Sting to get another beatdown from Jarrett and Steiner, only for Joe to finally make the save. Joe can then tell Sting he’s earned his respect at last because he finally faced him in the ring, while Sting can tell Joe, and the fans, that Joe has proven he’s the man and that he is the man to carry TNA. This can bring out Jarrett and Steiner, they can go back and forth to set up Sting/Joe vs. Jarrett/Steiner as the main event that night, and they can run an angle at the end of the match to set up Joe vs. Jarrett as the main event of the next PPV.

Samoa Joe beating Sting for the belt means people will see Joe beating a guy who was seen as one of the top names from wrestling’s boom period, and that alone means Joe’s big World title win will mean far more if it’s against Sting than Jarrett. It will not just be Joe winning the World title, but it will be the rubber-stamping of the new face of wrestling, Joe, beating the old face of wrestling, Sting, and that will do wonders for the perception that TNA is about the new rather than the old.

Notes from Mike Johnson:

According to marketing materials sent out to cable providers, NWA champion Sting vs. Jeff Jarrett at the Hard Justice PPV will take place inside the Six Sides of Steel.

One of the reasons Sonjay Dutt appears on Xplosion so often is that the series, which is TNA's international show, does well in India, so it makes sense to use Dutt to promote to that market specifically.

Using the cage to what should be the Sting/Jarrett blow off makes sense, but with them having established LockDown as a gimmick PPV, i dunno if they should it outside of that show. And while the Dutt thing makes sense, it sounds like something Jarrett would tell him to make him feel better for not getting a push.

At the end of the day, people remember the best matches quality and atmosphere. Joe vs. JJ is a lot helluva better than Joe vs. Sting. It's sad to say but Sting don't bring a reaction like Jarrett. Imagine the crowd reactions and energy when Joe pin JJ and compare it to if he pin Sting. People emotionally hate JJ, we don't have many heels today that people really hate. Plus, the match quality is something to look at. Jarrett can still be great if he try and Joe will bring the best out of him, Sting is limited. Joe vs. Jarrett is like the ultimate indy dream match, when TNA and ROH fans hated each other in 2004 all I heard was Joe vs. Jarrett.

My only real problem with Joe vs. JJ instead of Joe vs. Sting is that Joe already pinned Jarrett clean the only time they worked together (the tag match with Sting and Steiner).

The luster on that match is gone.

I'd normally agree with you BPS, but TNA basically ignored the outcome of that match, focusing on A) the fact that Joe abandoned Sting during the beatdown and B) Joe's interaction with Steiner. I don't think if Tenay every once said on Impact that Joe pinned Jarrett, and I'm certain they didn't run any highlights.

I thought TNA had a golden angle between Joe and CHristian if they kept Christian undefeated and the champ. Imagine that, both guys never loss in TNA go one on one against each other for the World title. It's too late now but it would of been great. Sting never loss in TNA but it's not the same because we all know Sting is doing the "legend" gimmick and they barely lose matches.

P.S. I'm looking for a mask vs.title match down the line between Joe and AByss.

Joe beating sting would be better for joe in the long run. But to the fans, Joe beating jarrett would make joe into The Number 1 face.

Joe vs Abyss would be good if they hadn't killed Abyss's heat.

It seems like making Joe the number 1 face is the plan, which is the only reason I think he should go over Jarrett instead of Sting.

The latest wrestling observer newsletter for 07/24/06 states that Monty Brown & Low Ki has NOT signed new contracts !!

Low Ki is mega pissed by the way Tna has booked him lately....He didn't even know who his opponent would be before he saw it on the Internet

* Jim Mitchell is under Tna contract to may 2007

* Incognito was going to be a part of the 3 way with Kazarian and Sen Shi but Tna couldn't get a hold of him with info on flights and stuff, so Tna is not impressed with him at this time...

After watching Impact last night, I'm getting the vibe that Sting will get screwed over for the title by Christian turning on him. Christian/Sting will be an interesting feud that has the possibility of producing decent matches.

Joe getting the slow built to the title is the way to go. There's no way he should win the title right now. Maybe at the Detroit PPV show would be a better choice. And Joe needs to go over Jarrett for the title.

Also, Rhyno is starting to get scary over. Him winning the title in Detroit would be pretty awesome as well if they were to go that direction.

And Kevin Nash/Alex Shelley is the greatest shit ever. I fucking love those two.

Senshi should be pissed since he's booked on Xplosion and LOSES!!

It's so obvious Sting is losing at hard justice that Sting should win.

And Nash/Shelley Rule all.

Anyone know if there's a reason they are keeping Raven off TV. I know he's horribly out of shape but he hasn't been on Impact since the KOTM qualifying matches.

Any future programs lined up for him?

He just blew off his feud with Larry at the PPV.

How long is his contract for? If it's not long, i would think they would let his contract run out and he can work as an agent.

There is still the unfinished business with Jeff Jarrett, Jackie Gayda, the video tape, and the never ending "What about me...what about Raven" gimmick! The thing with Larry was bullshit nobody cared about Larry since he was just a pawn a puppet for the the champion who is hiding from him. You know everything has to revolve Jeff Jarrett so a rematch has to be in the future...it is Ravens DESTINY afterall!
