NFL Week VII

Dolphins/Chiefs was moved up to Friday night @ 7 PM to beat the hurricane.

Somehow Jim Haslett will find a way to use this as his excuse when the Saints lose this weekend.

Oh I think Billick has definitely left his stamp on the Ravens: awful QB, win with insane defense, etc. I blame the Ravens for this trend in the NFL to be honest.

I think the Colts will actually take out Jacksonville again, but they'll lose to Seattle on the road or someone like that.

Perhaps he will say that he needed the lead-in?

I sorta enjoy the game of "How will the NFL fuck over the Saints this week" game lately.

Perhaps I spoke too soon about Jeff Garcia/Joey Harrington.

My thought was that Garcia's ankle injury had him out for the year. Apparently, Harrington and Garcia were splitting time with the first team this week during practice, and it could be a game-time decision who gets to go against Cleveland, and I REALLY wouldn't be surprised to see Jeff get in the game sometime against his former team.

Now, I really liked Garcia and was pretty pissed T.O. basically ran him out of San Fran, and I think he could still be a Pro Bowler in the right situation. With Detroit's offensive weapons and a good coach, this may be just what the Lions needed to finally take control of the NFC North, like I predicted before the season.

It probably should've been an injury that kept him out for the year, but the Lions' coaching staff is probably getting fed up with Joey Harrington and the fans were fed up with him after his first season with the team.

I find it funny they got rid of Mike McMahon after Harrington's first season, a guy who has a -lot- better skills than harrington (not to mention some decent mobility being built in a bit of a jeff garcia mold with better size). They would kill to have had McMahon instead of Harrington this year, as well as a bunch of other quarterbacks for that matter.

I've seen Mike McMahon play, and I remember all too well that amazing game he had that couple Thanksgivings ago against the Packers.. They mentioned that McMahon looked a bit like Brett Favre, and (this is a major compliment coming from me), I'd have to agree a little. Guy has a hell of an arm and just seems to make things happen out of nowhere, he was extremely exciting to watch, amazing how they never gave him a shot at the starting job somewhere. Not to toot my own horn, but I have an eye for backups who look like they'd be great players (Warner, Hasselbeck, Delhomme, and Trent Green being my favorite three example), and I think McMahon deserved a shot in Detroit, but he got lost somewhere along all the shuffling.

`Course, now he's playing in Philadelphia, where he's got practically no shot at starting.

I have to agree with everything Vitamin X said, but i'm amazed someone else even knows who McMahon is. I still think before the end of the year he'll be winning games for Philadelphia (McNabb should just get that damn surgery and be ready for the playoffs, i think he's being selfish) and earning himself a shot somewhere, which should lead to Matt millen being fired for ever letting the guy go. But that's what "1st round pick" mentality does to you in the nfl, you play guys with less talent cus you don't want to look like a fool.

Agreed, and don't be surprised- sadly enough, I follow the NFL obsessively enough where I know most team's depth charts, and like I said, I remember McMahon from that one Thanksgiving game, and watched him play a couple other ones. I was shocked they kept around Charlie Batch that long with McMahon backing him up, and even more pissed they drafted Harrington with him there. Just like I was pissed this year when the Packers took Aaron Rodgers instead of giving Craig Nall a chance to start, but hey Aaron might turn out to be great. Then again, I'm not out there on the practice field and not utilizing the players to my schemes, so what do I know...

Detroit at Cleveland:

I don't trust the dog pound here. Detroit's lazy ass offense could either shine or die here. The Lions have the better offense (in theory) and that's where I think they'll get the upper hand and the W from in this game.

Green Bay at Minnesota:

This is my long shot pick. The Vikes need the win here *badly* and I would hope they're thinking the same way. Minny in a shocker win.

Indianapolis at Houston:

The Colts should cruise through this game barring some intense heat. David Carr could be forced into retirement after this game.

Kansas City at Miami:

I like Miami home. That's all I can say.

New Orleans at St. Louis:

The Saints are probably going to cripple Martin after last week's tough loss. I see the Saints getting some revenge in this game at the Rams' expense.

Pittsburgh at Cincinnati:

Game of the weekend. I think Cincy's offense can hold off the Steelers defense and Cincy's offense is better looking than Pitt's right now, what with Big Ben hurting after last week.

San Diego at Philadelphia:

Fuck Andy Reid's 6-0 off-week record, SD's got LT, Gates, McCardell, and a healthy QB unlike Philly. LT's going to run right through Jevon Kearse and Brees is going to pick apart Philly's overrated 2ndary.

San Francisco at Washington:

The Skins should win this game 60-something to 3 or nothing. Anything else will be unacceptable.

Dallas at Seattle:

Dallas has the better offense, the better defense, and the better 2ndary. They're more even on offense but, fuck, Dallas' defense is the real deal this season and Mike Holmgren's not going to out coach Bill Parcells, even with Dallas' Flozel Adams out for the season. Seattle doesn't have *any* killers on defense and I don't see them causing Big D's offense many fits.

Baltimore at Chicago:

Chi-town should win this game in a blowout. Oh man, the Bears D could end up raping Baltimore's weakass offensive line here. Watch as Jamal Lewis gets hurt in this game and ends up going on the DL for the season...

Buffalo at Oakland:

WIN MUTHAFUCKERS! goddamnit...

Denver at N.Y. Giants:

Denver's defense is going to run roughshod over the G-Men's weakass offensive line and light Eli up badly. Jake Plummer's also looking good so far this season and I don't see Eli out dueling him on offense with his crew of misfits. Tiki Barber's not going to do much here.

Tennessee at Arizona:

Why not? Maybe McCown will get his head on straight for this game (hopefully).

Monday, Oct. 24

N.Y. Jets at Atlanta:

Both teams have killer defenses but the Falcons have the advantage on offense with Mike Vick leading them. But, the Jets have the better 2ndary so I would *hope* that Atlanta doesn't try to get Vick to go pass happy in this game because someone on the Jets *will* get a Vick INT if he gets too excessive with the throwing.

My picks for the week.

Chiefs getting 1 over Miami.

St. Louis giving 5 1/2 over Saints.

Cincinnati giving 3 over Pittsburgh.

Browns giving 2 1/2 over Detroit.

4 teams - 10 for 1. I put down $8.

---------------------------------------------

Forth quarter, Chiefs up 30-13.

Holy FUCK a Chiefs player got absolutely DRILLED after a nice hit by one of the Dolphins' receivers. And he got penalized! "Unsportsmanlike conduct"? Oh go fuck yourself zebra, since when was tackling illegal in football?

This shit is really turning me off the NFL nowadays.

Sass, I gotta disagree with you on a couple of those. I'm taking the Giants over the Broncos mainly because the Broncos deep down are going to revert to their usual post Elway form. Namely 10-6 by season's end. They'll be exposed by someone soon, and it might as well be Sunday.

Also, yes I agree Dallas has better D than Seattle but better offense? Yeah they ran it up on the Eagles a bit but did you see that horrid game against the Giants last week? Seattle should take that one at home.

Well, there goes the season.

Artest is on the NBA preview cover, too.

Fuck.

Well if it makes you feel any better, USC was on the SI cover going into last years college football season and they still won.

Yeah, I could see Seattle getting the win at home. But, they've got no one on defense who I see breaking down Dallas' offense and sacking Bledsoe out of the game. Dallas has a really good defense, which is why I don't see Shaun Alexander winning this game for his team. Dallas' 2ndary will shut down the the Seahawks ground game if there's a God. Otherwise, throw Hasselback, THROW!

But, the Broncos are on a roll as long as Jake Plummer doesn't INT the team into a 2nd place finish in the AFC West. I despise the troll but Mike Shanahan is one of *the* best coaches in the NFL and games will not be lost because of something he does to fuck up. It'll be the team's fault, not his. Elway schmellway says I. Shanny can win without him and the Denver fans calling for the troll's head are fucktards who don't know when they have a good thing. Shanny's been one of the best coaches in the NFL for 10 + seasons and that probably won't change anytime soon.

Take into account I'm a Raiders fan so I expect for Al Davis to send leg breakers over to my house any day now...

Coughlin isn't a pushover for a coach either. I don't expect the Broncos to blow the G-men out but they've got some big guys on defense who could light Eli up badly since I still think that O-line of his can be just as lazy and weak as Detroit's sorry ass fat fuck line.

The G-men's O-line need to cancel out Denver's reject Browns crew and LB corps (which is one of the best in the league right now). This game will be gut check time for the Giants and Coughlin. It should be fun to watch.

I'd dump Cowher as head coach before I'd dump Shanahan. At least Mikey's got the Superbowl bling. The Rooney family will never drop Cowher though unless he's caught on film fucking a sheep or Terry Bradshaw in the ass. If they didn't cut him before, like '97 to '01, then I just don't see them cutting him loose now since Pitt *finally* has a legit QB at the starter spot.

Watch, Cowher's going to be coaching that team 15 years from now.

It's like Russo's been the booker for the Steelers for like the past 10 years. They just can't break on through and win it all without some on-field hijinx occurring at the worst time (AFC title game, etc.).

If Bud Adams ever fires Jeff Fisher, he deserves to have one of his used cars fall on his old ass.

Fisher's a really good coach who doesn't piss off or bother his players. He's got "the touch" it takes for someone to be a good head coach in the NFL. He's not as chill as Tony Dungy but he knows how to get through to his guys without going all Buddy Ryan on them and yell and shit.
