Guest Leelee Report post Posted November 4, 2005 If they were on 2 hours every week it wouldn't look like it did tonight. But they would start developing characters. That could be a good thing...or you know...not. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It would definitely be a good thing. That's where TNA is still minor league... there's no reason to CARE about 90% of their roster still.
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2005 I think they could easily handle 2 hours a week of TV with the roster they have. Hell...when they were doing the 2 hour weekly ppv shows the main problem was that they had nothing to build towards. 2 hours of Impact would look a lot like the 1 hour show. Just a hare slower, a couple more minutes for matches, and more promos. I'm not a big 20 minute promo guy...but to the casual TNA Spike viewer...most of these guys haven't had a 20 second promo. Stephen Joseph 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2005 Keep the promos short, keep it that way because its different...
Guest Leelee Report post Posted November 4, 2005 There needs to be promos if you're going to keep wrestling on TV... I'm not saying 20-minute HHH crap, but characters need to be built. Remember that most fans aren't like all you freaks that actually enjoy workrate. If you don't want promos, watch ROH, or whatever. That's my disappointment about the show today... I love watching the X-Division guys best, but there no reason to care. It's just a bunch of guys.

The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2005 If TNA can continue to do well...and actually become a profitable little wrestling company... I would just like to say that the reason it will happen... ... ... is ... ready for it? ... Vince bannning the high risk moves of the cruisers. Seriously. That was a mistake. It may be (as Batista calls it) Car Crash wrestling...but no one's going to turn that off for a while. TNA needs to start using that to build people into caring about the guys that are doing all the car wreck moves.
Guest Leelee Report post Posted November 4, 2005 I think it's more because the cruisers are jobbers, there. The normal fan didn't give a crap about the WCW flippy-floppers in the late 90s.
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2005 I get that. I suppose the main difference comes down to the fact that most of TNA's roster is cruisers...and that they've actually been pushed and main evented shows in the past. But still...having Paul London and Juvi and Kid Kash working the same matches as Batista and John Cena is nutty. Why even have a cruiser division at that point? I saw it tonight, a bunch of casual wrestling fans were gushing over the 6man X-division match. Was it actually a good match? Not really. But a lot of casual fans base their opinion of a match on how many big spots are used. So TNA can provide that type of wrestling better than the WWE, which becomes something they can use to draw casual, WWE fans.

The faceless lucha matches work for filling time for the show, by providing the audience with something entertaining to watch. They''ll never draw a dime though, unless they develop characters and give the matches some meaning. That's true for any wrestling though. If the matches don't have meaning, they won't draw. So basically I agree that TNA needs to develop characters in order to draw people. Matches devoid of any character can be entertaining, but they won't get people to watch the show. cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2005 I enjoyed this a lot tonight, even with the obvious Jarrett title win. The X division 6 man match was really great I thought, and the Ultimate X match was certainly better than the PPV. It was certainly refreshing to see a 2 hour show full of actual quality wrestling action. The only thing to do now is to get some actual angles and give these guys some personas. I quiver at the thought of someone like Heyman booking TNA. It'll be interesting to see what the ratings for this special will be.
KingPK 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2005 How did Gail *NOT* pop out of her top on that legdrop? Overall, I was entertained, especially the X-Division 6-man. Guest Leelee Report post Posted November 4, 2005 Also, I hope they don't overdo the X matches. It's an interesting concept, but there's only so much you can do while hanging on a wire... And it should really be only for title matches... because Petey looked quite silly holding a big red X after a great match like that.
Guest Brian Report post Posted November 4, 2005 Really enjoying the show so far. I should be reading a book and preparing a journal review. I got a bunch of MMA fans to watch this just to spite WWE.
Open the Muggy Gate 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2005 That was a very fun two hours. That 6-man X Division match just rocked. I don't want to put any stars on it to to demean it or overanalyze it here. It was just plain FUN. Aries is a motherfucking nutcase outthere, and I've never seen him hit that crucifix bomb like that in my life. That was a lotta impact. Monty Brown... 3 Pounces. I'm happy... I have a new sig. TNA better get the belt on Brown soon before he reaches his peak. Fuck Jeff Jarrett. And that's all I'll say about that. Overall... just a good night... till the end. Oh well... RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2005 I caught about 3 minutes of the end, and some how I have something to say. Tenay and West need personalities. They're pretty much the same "voice" in there. I think some character quirks are in order to help differentiate. I mean, I know Don West is over-enthusiastic guy, and I know Tenay is Mr. Knowledge, but when I hear West bring in some insight or hear Tenay freak out, I don't really see those two things as distinct character traits. You wouldn't hear Gorilla Monsoon make excuses for heels like Heenan did, and you wouldn't hear Heenan say "oh will you stop!" back at em. I'm not really looking for Don West to be Horny Old Man Jerry Lawler, but when Gail Kim was leaning over the apron like that, I'm like "TITTIES!" and he's like "Gail Kim is looking on!", which is exactly what Tenay would have said. There needs to be some differentiation there. My suggestion - The Gold Necklace and buttoned down shirt. There is something there, I just don't know what yet. The stroke is an awful move. Like, jesus christ. Is the death sentence supposed to look really homoerotic? Isn't there a better way? It better not have been AMW that beat down the Dudleys, cause Tenay going off the air pointing out the obvious was kinda lame. "IT HAD TO BE AMW!" Well fucking DUH. The way Tenay laid it out, it seemed like a copycat-able offense (beer bottle, laying in their own blood). Was it ever said or implied on the show that there could have been anyone else behind the attack? If not, I don't think that is a good idea to just have someone out of the blue attack them. There should have been a hint before hand. It helps tie things together. So they're having ANOTHER PPV? So it was like Impact, Thursday show, Impact, PPV?? They seriously need to address this, cause things are moving way too fast. There is no rule that says they need to have a PPV every month.
CanadianChick 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2005 Well, I honestly haven't seen the Stroke yet for god knows how many years, and saw it tonight. Fuck, count that as 3 finishers that I hate in TNA. That one, the Canadian Destroyer and the Pounce. And to be honest, not a huge fan of the Styles Clash either. Fun show tonight though. I loved how they spoiled the main event in their PPV ad though.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2005 The Styles Clash is a rather sissy move especially after they do about a dozen other better looking moves before it. I love the pounce, though. They need to have 3 guys lined up and Monty pounces one and they all fly back like a bunch of dominoes.
CanadianChick 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2005 It's such a joke of a move, espeically when the guy on the receiving end oversells it.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2005 I did like Gail Kim going right in and hugging JJ while he was on his knees. Gail seemed genuinely happy that he won. It was more like she won. I could almost buy JJ as champ if he had the right people around him treating him the right way. Which is to say, everyone is using JJ for their own purposes and is more of a puppet than anything else. The only reason he is in power is because they each believe they can take him down, and its a matter of the right timing. You know those action movies where there is the rich financial backer who hires the evil ex military guy to help steal something or blow something up, and the rich backer ends up usually getting betrayed by the evil ex military guy where it is revealed that the power he (rich guy) held was merely that which was allowed to him by the guys who had the real power? Yeah, JJ should totally be the rich backer. Everyone plays nice for him, but really couldn't give a shit.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2005 I love the overselling. But hey, hows about you take a pounce? What's that? Ya dun wanna? Cause it'd hurtcha? Aight then (ya gat seRRRved).
CanadianChick 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2005 Sorry, I don't really speak stupid, so I have no idea what you just said. But yeah, I can see where you're going for with Jarrett. With AMW, it's easy. With Gail Kim, it could be if she pushes having a women's division, or something like that. Then she can be the Queen of the Moutain or something. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2005 STUPID?! Why I never... Gail probably just likes riding around in the limos and whatnot. Wearing the jewellery. Lookin all pretty-like. When Jeff won, her sugar-daddy was back. Have they actually explained why Gail is with Jeff?
