There's been discussion recently about giving Greg Valentine a regular on camera role of late. There are plans to integrate more "WWE Legends" into the TV shows in the future as well. - pwinsider.com

 

I always like Greg Valentine for some reason. I have no idea how they will integrate him onto television though, I guess unless he's a semi-wrestler like Orton and Piper. I saw his match with Rob Conway on Heat a few weeks match and it seemed to be ok.

 

Also, I hope Goldust is back full-time. If he's on Raw tonight, I think he's sticking around for a third tenure in WWE. And I kinda want to see Vader again in a car wreck kind of way, although, I don't see them asking him to come back after last week.

How do they "integrate" Greg Valentine into their regular tv? I mean, unless he's going to wrestle regularly again? From what I remember, Valentine was never much of a talker or anything, so I don't see how having him be a manager would really work out.

On a related note, Ricky Steamboat has a mechanic's shop about twenty minutes away from my town. It's in Mooresville, NC which is about 15 minutes north of Charlotte. That's pretty cool.

This is a stupid move. I respect Valentine for what he did for WWF back in the day, especially his underrated feud with Tito Santan over the IC title, but this bringing people back from the dead thing is dumb. It's not going to get Conway over and no one wants to see these old men. Just stop it.

I could swear that I read that The Hammer was on Heat a few weeks ago, was defeated by Conway, and then turned heel by beating up Eugene after he lost.

Did I ever mention how much I hate nostalgia? It's okay for a one time pop, but bringing these people back, especially to wrestle on a semi-regular basis, is retarded.

Well the thing is I doubt very many people are sitting at home thinking "Gee, I wish Greg Valentine would show up on Raw soon." There's no demand or interest for most of these guys. Some like Vader are old hasbeens, but why bring back never was types like Koko B. Ware? I mean I used to like the guy back when I was 9 but he WAS a total jobber and hardly any sort of legend.

 

That's my biggest problem with the legends thing. Most of these guys aren't even legends. Ricky Steamboat is a legend. Greg Valentine? Decent journeyman, but that's about it.

No one wants to see them in the ring. I like seeing them if it is just for special appearances or Hall of Fame stuff or something like that.

Surely IF Vince knew Vader was coming back and he didn't want him, then why did he get on TV- surely Vince could've just vetoed the whole thing and stopped him from showing up, it's obvious just from looking at him that he's not near ring shape- my reaction was that hey'd hot-shotted him back on to TV in desperation at the absence of Austin....

 

Goldust on the other hand, he did look a bit out of shape, but it wouldn't take much to get back into 2002 shape, where he at his most entertaining since 1995...until the tourettes syndrome gimmick of course.

 

I'm all for keeping both of them around if Vader can get back into semi decent shape and Goldust can still go....

Read on another board that the decision was made by Dusty Rhodes. I believe he is on thin ice for this decision, as well as that trainwreck of a segment he booked.

Exactly, well put, cabbageboy. It is nice for WWE to honor the guys that helped build the company, but there's a huge difference between guys like Hulk Hogan, Ricky Steamboat, Bret Hart, Dusty Rhodes...and guys like...Jim Duggan, Koko B Ware, Greg Valentine, Hillbilly Jim, etc. Sure, I might have enjoyed seeing Jim Duggan swing his 2x4 and yell "hooooo!" when I was ten years old, like you said, but the guy never won any major titles in his heyday. A lot of these "legends" WWE is trotting out were basically journeymen or generic stereotype characters used mainly for comedy relief. Not to say some of them weren't decent wrestlers for their day, but the old territory days were loaded with those types of guys.

 

Like I said, it's nice for WWE to honor them once or twice a year, but I don't need to see another one or two every week and have Jerry Lawler scream about what a big deal it is for someone like Jimmy Snuka to be coming down to the ring, so he can take five minutes to get to the top rope and do his obligatory finisher.

Vince was stupid as hell to ok it in the first place, or whoever does that, Steph or whatever. I'm sure this crap, just like everything else I suppose, went through them at some point.

 

Don't get me wrong, I loved the segment, one of the best in a very long time (in a bad way, of course), but I admit it was horrible. I'm just glad we had that moment, I'll never forget the random stupidity.

The match was still going and Eugene ran down and attacked Conway and got Valentine DQ'ed. Afterwards Eugene tried to give Valentine a handshake and Valentine just shoved him down and walked away while Eugene started crying in the corner asking what was wrong.

Maybe Conway will hire certain legends to be a part of a stable with him (starting with The Hammer), and he'll treat them like crap. Much like when Ted Dibiase did this:

 

 

It'll all lead to a big classic SS style elimination match. One team consisting of Eugene (captain) and four of his legends (Snuka, Hacksaw, Kamala, and ?) and the other team with Conway (captain) and four of his legends (The Hammer, ?, ?, ?). The finish could see Conways team turning on him at some point, before or after the match, much like all of the midgets turned on Lawler at SS '94.

Kamala is not a legend. Jim Harris, on the other hand just happens to be a WWE road agent. All these "legends" are just guys who just happen to be around when this nostagia kick started. Unlike major sports like football and baseball, sometimes, guys just don't want to associate with vince mcmahon. Running out of legends, just get some random guy who wrestled in the 80s and sign 'em.

I mean, I know many wouldn't want to see it or anything, but it would at least be somewhat logical. That is something WWE has lacked a lot lately, logic. If nothing else, it could be a somewhat fun transitional match, and lord knows the fans in attendance would pop for all of the signature spots. It would be something to place between a very bad match and a really good one. Keep it down to just a few minutes, and it could be fine.

 

At least it would keep all of them in the same match, heh.

Valentine has always looked like a huge drunk, so it'd be fantastic if they brought him in as some kind of alcoholic legend for backstage skits.

 

Honestly, I absolutely hate 90% of the WWE's current programming. As someone who watched and loved WWF through the 90s, I'd rather have nostalgia than the current garbage.
