... Posted December 18, 2005 Report Posted December 18, 2005 This Right Here Is Buck 65 Haven't heard it. Anything like "Secret House Against The World?"
The Czech Republic Posted December 18, 2005 Report Posted December 18, 2005 The Captain has NINE posts? The magic is over.
BigPoppaKev Posted December 18, 2005 Report Posted December 18, 2005 Chimaira-Chimaira and Ghost Reveries-Opeth. And I can't believe some people said there haven't been any good metal cd's this year and that some people actually liked Mesmerize by SOAD which is by far their worst album (I haven't heard Hypnotize yet and refuse to listen to it after the shit heap that was mesmerize.)
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted December 18, 2005 Report Posted December 18, 2005 The only thing that comes to mind Is Sufjan. Picaresque ain't too shabby either. But I haven't bothered picking up much new stuff.
Guest BrokenWings Posted December 18, 2005 Report Posted December 18, 2005 Another vote for Illinoise.
The Czech Republic Posted December 18, 2005 Report Posted December 18, 2005 THAT'S NOT WHAT IT'S CALLED Did you know people actually pronounce it that way? With the S at the end? Mooks.
Matt Young Posted December 18, 2005 Report Posted December 18, 2005 THAT'S NOT WHAT IT'S CALLED Did you know people actually pronounce it that way? With the S at the end? Mooks. Dude... About 90%of the people out here pronounce it that way. I'll tell them I'm from Illinois (proper pronunciation, of course) and yet they still refer to it as "Illinoise" afterwards.
Carnival Posted December 18, 2005 Report Posted December 18, 2005 Illinois....gayest name for a state. I hate it.
The Czech Republic Posted December 18, 2005 Report Posted December 18, 2005 How can that be gayer than Oregon? It sounds like "organ."
The Czech Republic Posted December 18, 2005 Report Posted December 18, 2005 Anyway back on topic, though the cover art says "Cum on feel the ILLINOISE!," or whatever it says, the album itself is officially named Illinois. Even though it's in big letters on the front and so on.
Guest step up, ghetto blaster. Posted December 19, 2005 Report Posted December 19, 2005 I don't have a definite pick yet. I'm leaning towards Hell's Winter, but I haven't heard most of the frontrunners in this thread save Picaresque and Late Registration. well, I've heard Be and The Minstrel Show, but Hell's Winter is better so I'm ignoring them. Set Yourself on Fire is probably my favorite album this year, but I'm reluctant to call it the best for some reason. clue me in on the Silver Jews. I know nothing of them.
The Czech Republic Posted December 19, 2005 Report Posted December 19, 2005 It's a Malkmus side project. If you like Pavement, you'll like Silver Jews.
Guest step up, ghetto blaster. Posted December 19, 2005 Report Posted December 19, 2005 this sounds nutritious. I'm gonna go steal it.
5_moves_of_doom Posted December 19, 2005 Report Posted December 19, 2005 It's a Malkmus side project. If you like Pavement, you'll like Silver Jews. This is a common misconception. The primary writing force behind the Silver Jews is David Berman, and Malkmus hasn't even played on all of the Silver Jews records. While many people get into the Silver Jews because of the Pavement connection, by no means is Silver Jews "Pavement 2" or anything, and often the two sound nothing alike. EDIT: However, the band is really, really good.
... Posted December 19, 2005 Report Posted December 19, 2005 The Captain has NINE posts? The magic is over. Yeah, well, evolution is a mystery, huh?
Guest step up, ghetto blaster. Posted December 19, 2005 Report Posted December 19, 2005 I forgot about Kano's Home Sweet Home. that album's hot as shit.

Mole Posted December 20, 2005 Report Posted December 20, 2005 Kanye West - Late Registration Only album I bought in 05.

EDIT: However, the band is really, really good. but often the two do sound alike. A couple of Silver Jews albums pre-Tanglewood lean a lot more towards country arrangements than Pavement ever did. There are similarities in terms of vocal delivery and moments of quirkiness but Berman is most definately his own man as a songwriter and i'd agree that most of the time they don't sound overly alike.
Sonic Reducer Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 1. The Mars Volta - Frances the Mute 2. Sleater-Kinney - The Woods 3. Sigur Ros - Takk
Renegade Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 Good apollo - Coheed and Cambria Late Registration - Kanye West Get behind me satan- White Stripes.
mister foozel Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 I bought Anthrax "Among The Living" this year.. But I bet it doesn';t count, eoouh
Anorak Posted December 23, 2005 Report Posted December 23, 2005 (edited) I'm reluctant to bother with this after their last album eventually ended up gathering dust in my room but i'll probably give a try. At Dawn will always sound lovely though. Edited December 23, 2005 by Anorak
Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye Posted December 24, 2005 Report Posted December 24, 2005 Chimaira-Chimaira and Ghost Reveries-Opeth. It'd be hard to explain Opeth as a metal band anymore, let alone a good band. Album of the year is Averse Sefira - Tetragramatical Astygmata Everything else this year is riddled with AIDS
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted December 25, 2005 Report Posted December 25, 2005 I don't know if it was you or Slayer who warned me, but the new Cryptopsy does indeed suck fucking balls. What a disappointing piece of turd. I burned it, at least.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted December 25, 2005 Report Posted December 25, 2005 and fuck your face, the most recent Cephalic Carnage and Nile albums are decent-good.
Slayer Posted December 26, 2005 Report Posted December 26, 2005 My personal best of metal '05 Russell Allen and Jorn Lande - The Battle SYL - Alien Nocturnal Rites - Grand Illusion Nevermore - This Godless Endeavor Bruce Dickinson - Tyranny of Souls Candlemass - s/t Paradise Lost - Paradise Lost Kreator - Enemy of God
Carnival Posted December 26, 2005 Report Posted December 26, 2005 Another vote for Hell's Winter! My mind is blown!
