UZI Suicide 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2005 Anyone in So Cal going to this? I'm going to night one, I sort of want to see Depeche Mode and Jack Johnson though so I'm trying to find someone who has tickets for night two.
Guest Malia Young Report post Posted November 20, 2005 I keep begging Matt to take me. He likes most of those bands, but I don't think he's goingto be able to get tickets.

Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2005 Czech is an SOD fan? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I thought only the metalheads here had even heard of SOD...apparently I'm wrong. So, Czech, if what Mr. KOAB says here is true, which track do you prefer: "Speak English Or Die" or "United Forces"? I never quite understood the love for "United Forces" over "Speak English," even though it does have a nice gangchant and mosh part. ...oh, by the way, System of a Down is SOAD. SOD is Stormtroopers of Death.

5_moves_of_doom 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2005 Who the heck says "gangchant." <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Additionally, what the fuck is a gangchant. It sounds like something that the Ewoks would do.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2005 A lot of those bands should never play unplugged. Fall out Boy, Avenged Sevenfold, Thrice, and Rise Against should never be playing a set like this. And Korn unplugged? Christ, that is going to be painful. NIN, Jack Johnson, The Bravery, and SOAD I can see being pretty good like this, DCFC won't be good but I can see it, Coldplay songs already sound like they should be acoustic so they'll be their same lame selves, and Hot Hot Heat shouldn't have even been asked about this. Depeche Mode, The White Stripes, and Nada Surf I really don't know...could go either way. ETA: If some of them aren't unplugged they should be fine. FOB, AX7, and Rise should be fine if they can plug. Korn and Thrice are hopeless.
UZI Suicide 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2005 Actually to clarify, it's not acoustic, its just a regular set. I'm not sure why they call it that, maybe it used to be "Acoustic Christmas" or something but the Acoustic sets weren't coming off well, I dunno.
Star Ocean 3 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2005 First it was Acoustic Christmas, but none of the bands actually did acoustic sets, except for Alanis Morissette, so they changed it.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted November 28, 2005 Re: Gangchant It's a term for hardcore. A gangchant is the part of a hardcore song where the vocalist's line is accompanied by either that of the audience or the rest of the band, much like a gang chanting the word. Hence, gangchant. For the most part, gangchants are used solely in the chorus of hardcore/thrash songs, though some are used during the verses and breakdowns.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted November 28, 2005 I also loathe that style of artwork. Meticulously prepared unprofessionalism is such a cliché art direction.
Star Ocean 3 0 Report post Posted November 28, 2005 "Hypnotize" is one of the worst songs I've heard.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted November 28, 2005 Noel Gallagher totally owned System of a Down. Shittiest band ever, and at least he was alive to see them, because of everyone before and after, no one will be worse. Not as if he's done anything great in the last eight years himself, but I'm always open to a good bitter Noel Gallagher rant.

2GOLD 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2005 There's much, MUCH worse bands than System of a Down. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Looking at that list of bands above proves it to be fact. SOAD suffers badly from overplayed syndrome. I liked Fall Out Boy for a little while but their songs get way too overplayed.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2005 http://bestweekever.blogs.com/best_week_ev...hates_ever.html On Eminem & 50: "I despise hip-hop. Loathe it. Eminem is an idiot and I find 50 Cent the most distasteful character I have ever crossed in my life. It's so negative." On System of a Down: "After I heard System of a Down, I thought, I'm actually alive to hear the shittiest band ever. Of all the bands that have gone before, and all the bands that'll be in the future, I was around when the worst was around." On The Strokes: "There's no fucking excuse for not having your shoes match your jacket. The Strokes would do well to take that advice because the studded wristbands have already started to creep in." On the lead singer of Franz Ferdinand: "He reminds me of fucking Right Said Fred. You put on I'm Too Sexy for My Fucking Shirt and I bet you any money it's the same person. It's the same fucking person! He's just gone on the Atkins diet and grown his hair!" Oh Noely.

Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2005 Oasis may be one of the most annoying bands I've ever heard in my life. Sure, I agree with their "if you're gonna copy a band, copy the best" stance when it comes to comparing their songs with Beatles tunes, but really...they're just shit. Noel Gallagher is entertaining, but he really just needs to realize his band sucks more than a lot of the bands he rips on. You don't like Serj's voice? Understandable. I find it oddly entrancing because of how different his voice is from other frontmen. I don't care for the band's politics in the least, but I do like the arrangement of their songs. Except for "Hypnotize," which is shit.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2005 Yeah, I can't process a metal singer doing anything but Cookie Monster or screaming, and Serj just sounds like a dumbass. And their politics don't bother me on their own, but when their fanbase has to start regurgitating them, it gets really fucking annoying. I appreciate that they're accomplished musicians and draw from sources that the nu-metal hacks probably haven't even heard of, but I just don't care for them. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted November 29, 2005 I love System of a Down, actually... Daron's voice is the one that gets on my nerves sometimes, I don't like his shrieking in on contrasting with Serj's vocals.
