Carnival 0 Report post Posted November 23, 2005 remember, Czech hates rap... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I know he does, and he can hate that song all he wants. But I just wanted to show him that Kanye wasn't trying to rhyme "money" with "money". Maybe if he understands....he will start to like it.......or not. I'm telling you Lushus, download that Cage song, you'll like it. Cage is fucking tight. White Rappers Baby!!!!! WHOOoooOOO!!!

Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted November 23, 2005 I find Common excruciatingly boring, by the way. He's absolutely the most dull of the type of guys with whom he's typically associated (Mos Def, Kweli, Tribe, etc.).

Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted November 23, 2005 "Be" would probably find its way into my Top Ten if I were to make one. "The Food" is good stuff too. "The Food" is actually about 2 years old. Common and Kanye did it on Chappelle's Show during season 2. Great jam and one of my favorite recent rap songs, but I don't know if you should include it on a 2005 list. Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted November 23, 2005 I don't know if I can pick just one off the top of my head, but it's either Anberlin's "A Day Late" or The Receiving End Of Sirens "Planning A Prison Break".

They just released an album Transgression in August of this year and are currently on tour with Strapping Young Lad and Soilwork.

Annabelle 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2005 I find Common excruciatingly boring, by the way. He's absolutely the most dull of the type of guys with whom he's typically associated (Mos Def, Kweli, Tribe, etc.). <{POST_SNAPBACK}> all of them are quite boring, actually. BE is saved by kanye, though.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2005 They're all quite boring right now, I agree with that. Mos Def still has his first solo album, which is very good, and both he and Kweli have the excellent Black Star disc to their credit. Admittedly, that means the two of them have been boring for about five years, which is ancient history. As for Tribe, at least Low End Theory and Midnight Marauders are very good, and I would actually be pretty surprised if you didn't like those. Q-Tip's great, Phife sometimes is even better. They can't sit at the same table as Biggie, Wu-Tang, Outkast, etc., but when I'm looking for something a little less serious (but not quite as less serious as De La Soul's 3 Feet High and Rising), the Tribe'll do me just fine. Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2005 Kweli had his album with Hi-Tek, too, which I still put on occasionally. But yeah, the whole modern day Native Tongues movement fell off pretty quickly.
Annabelle 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2005 i have always been very underwhelmed by a tribe called quest. and msot jazz rappers in general. rap is supposed to be about balls, machismo, & hard beats. not fluffy emo lightweight ditties about socially conscious issues. Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2005 Inappropriate use of "emo," narrow-minded view of hip hop and I recall you used to ride Common's jock, big time.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2005 Electric Circus in the signature. I remember that too. We all go through phases, though. I remember when you were straight-lovin' on Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, and now, not so much. I can't remember what the dumbest shit I've professed my love for is. Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2005 I grew to like Yoshimi less and less over time, but I never had a boner for it; I might've been more forgiving early on because I had such high hopes post-The Soft Bulletin. And they had yet to release all those mediocre EPs and become cartoon characters. I don't doubt some of my YBTPR-distaste is retroactive, but I still don't care for it outside of a few songs. It simply took time for me to recognize it as the beginning of where I no longer cared for the band like I once did. They still have a lot of good stuff, though. cbacon 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2005 I totally forgot Disintegration by Jimmy Eat World off their latest EP. Definetly a contender. Worth checking out even if you view JEW as a flash in the pan emo band.

Annabelle 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2005 Inappropriate use of "emo," narrow-minded view of hip hop and I recall you used to ride Common's jock, big time. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> oh. electric circus is great. its musical adverturism makes it far more interesting than anything else he's ever released. i don't recall ever promoting anything anything else common-related. certainly no socially conscious rap. electric circus wasn't jazz rap, nor emo, nor involving socially conscious issues. it was like a psychadelic rap album. its somewhere between bitches brew, their satanic majesties request & the first n.e.r.d album. its critical acclaim (criticism) mirrors those, too. the concept appealed to me then, and still does today. has anyone else really done this? n0. will anyone? probably not as common got racked through hot coals for it. he returned his vanilla straight forward mc style after it. which, and i am in the extreme minority, i find to be a mistake. pretension isn't always a bad thing in music. i consider satanic majesties better than a lot of stuff the stones did. bitches brew was considered blasphemous to most jazz fans.
