Meltzer's take on WWE wrestlers' reactions to Guerrero angle

Recommended Posts

Guest tony manero
Could it maybe be Michaels?

After what he said about dirtsheets and never responding to any of the accusations and insinuations that came from dirtsheets (Observer, Torch) in his book, do you really think it could be him???

I don't know, but he does fit the criteria given by Meltzer: He is one of the top WWE stars in the last decade (literally); he and Eddie were both devout Christians and were likely close; and, he has every reason to be appalled by the angle given his born-again Christian status. But so does Jericho.

Who knows, but FWIW, I don't think it's him.

My money is on Jericho; however, you CAN make an argument about him NOT being one of the WWE's biggest stars in the last decade, given the way he's been pushed. Just sayin'

Michaels never learned to "fear" McMahon; consequently, he's more likely to speak against McMahon. That's my bet.

Yeah, in person...not in an email.

Plus, I don't see him being the kind of guy -- unless he's changed -- to correspond with a guy like Meltzer, since he apparently doesn't feel too highly of him if you take his book at face value.

Just thinking that over -- just a gut response. Didn't mean to ruin the flow of the thread. Carry on.

wrestlers are so upset over what happened on Tuesday Smackdown then maybe they should go to Vince as a group to complain. What are they going to do? Fire the entire roster?

HHH would become the undisputed WWE World Champ, IC, US, Cruiserweight, World tag champ and WWE tag champ. That's what would happen.

The IC title is beneath him.

I'll go with JBL. That just sounds like something he could say.

True. But at the same time, Jericho was the first undisputed champion, he main evented Mania, he was always consistently over / popular even when he wasn't getting good pushes, and he was a big deal back when he debuted, especially all of his early interactions with the Rock. So I can see how Meltzer would consider him to be one of the WWE's biggest stars of the past decade. I think it's likely him.

I find it a little odd that so many of you think that it's Jericho when he Meltzer says that the person is one of the company's biggest stars in the past DECADE....if he his indeed going back a full ten years from WWF/E then that rules out Jericho and Benoit because neither showed up until 99-2000 if I recall...but beyond that I have no ideas on who it could be and I'm really just nit-picking...

Well, Jericho was a star in the last decade. That's not implying he was a star for a decade. I don't really understand how else Meltzer could have put it, if it is indeed Jericho, without giving it away. "A star who's recently left the company?"

Off the top of my head, from 1995-2005:

Bret

Shawn

Austin

Rock

Foley

HHH

Angle

Jericho

Undertaker

Hogan

That's about it, as biggest stars go, I think.

If I had to guess, I'd pick someone that was also in WCW when Eddie was still there. I don't know why I think that other than because it said a "close friend" to Eddie.

I guess that means I'm ruling it down to Jericho, Benoit, Mysterio & Hart.

Of course, there's really no point in speculating on it.

On Bryan Alvarez's last radio show, he had Meltz on and Dave said that Steph and John Laurinits know who the person is and are madder than hell about it which makes me think it's an active roster person.

Saying "Everyone has the power to say no and shame on those guys" kind of rules out Mysterio.

When was Hart one of Eddie's best friends?

It's either Benoit or Jericho and like everyone else said, it's not Benoit's writing style, the Vincent Kennedy McMahon part has Jericho all over it.

Well good, if they already know then why don't Meltz tell us?

I'm sure we'll find out in a roundabout way that it's Jericho if no one gets buried on Monday or Tuesday. If it isn't Jericho, it should be obvious when someone in a relatively high position ends up inexplicably jobbing to someone like Snitsky or Heidenreich on one of the televised shows.

I know. It's kind of odd that he's not. If it's Jericho or Benoit what do they have to lose? Jericho is not there anymore and he's pursuing other interests. The talk has been that he's happy doing what he's doing now, is not in need of cash and can return on his own terms. As for Benoit, his contractual status may still not be settled yet. So what do they have to lose if it's them or nay other top guy? If it's a top guy then WWE wouldn't want to risk having a name guy going to TNA.

Do you have The Collected Works of Christopher Benoit on your bookshelf or something? How do any of us know what Chris Benoit's writing style is?

Exactly. I don't think Benoit even has a small blog or anything to compare to so any of us saying it's not his writing style is just plain silly.

Funny stuff, Czech.

The "collected works of Christopher Benoit"

:)

If it's someone on the active roster, then it's either HBK or JBL, most likely the latter.

I promise you it is not JBL and seriously doubt it's HBK. JBL hates Meltz from the ONS ppv where he called JBL a dick and a bully for his actions against Blue Meanie and since Meltz takes a pro-Bret stance in regards to Montreal, HBK isn't very talkative with Dave either.

I think it's either Benoit, Jericho, or Malenko with Benoit as the most likely and Malenko the least likely.

Well I'd like to throw out another suspect for who wrote that to Dave: Edge

I didn't know this before Eddie's death, but if you listened to Edge's interview on wwe.com it is obvious he and Eddie were very, very good friends.

I thought Jericho was very likely until DA reported that Steph is flipping out, which points to a member of the active roster. So Benoit appeared to be the only other suspect, but as others have said, it just doesn't sound like Benoit to me. Also, Benoit just doesn't seem like the type to e-mail people and complain to me, he has always struck me as a straight-up guy who if he felt strongly about a matter would just sit down with you face-to-face and talk it out.

So I got to thinking about someone who was close to Eddie, is still active on the roster, AND has a demeanor/style that could be seen as similar to Jericho. Edge is who I came up with.

The only thing you might be able to say against him is the "one of the company's biggest stars of the last decade" doesn't fit. But I think if you consider time in the company as a star, then Edge could be seen as fitting that discription. He's been with the company for almost a decade, and he has always been a star to some degree, from his tag team days with Christian and others becoming the man with the most tag team title reigns in the wwe, to his his constant push as a singles star and now being known as "money in the bank."

So that's my pick for the man behind the mail.
