geniusMoment Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 As a cubs fan that is vomit inducing. Give me a break. I would not take Abreu and any two other players on that club for Prior.
Brett Favre Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 I've heard the Yankees offering Cano and Wang for Dontrelle Willis. Don't know if the rumor has legs. Also, if the A's get Milton Bradley, the Yankees should seriously look into getting Mark Kotsay.
devo Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 It's worth noting that at least the Jays' brass thinks Riccardi is doing a good job; he received a three-year contract extension today. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/wire?section=mlb&id=2249792
Brett Favre Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 Adding to the Willis stuff, it seems like the Marlins asked for more than just Cano and Wang. They also said Cabrera is available for the right price as well.
the pinjockey Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 If the article from Newsday is accurate (highly doubtful, but for the sake of arguement let's assume) link While the cost-cutting Marlins still are refusing to lower their asking price of Robinson Cano for Juan Pierre, they have begun to tell teams that every player on their roster - including Dontrelle Willis and Miguel Cabrera - is available for the right price. The Yankees threw out the names of Cano and Chien-Ming Wang in passing as possibilities for Willis, the Marlins' dynamic lefthander, but the Marlins told them it would take a lot more than that, according to a person familiar with the negotiations. I would give up: the Phils entire farm, my mother, my DVD collection and their entire next year's draft for Miguel Cabrera.
the max Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 This Marlins firesale is shockingly simular to me tanking seasons in NHL 2003 and stockpiling draft picks. One year, I had 24 of 30 picks. If the Marlins trade the D-Train, they will be lucky to draw 4000 a night.
the pinjockey Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 Do you think they let Joe Girardi know this was going to happen before he took the job or did they completely fuck him over? At this point he might as well start saying "startin to come together Pepper."
Guest Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 If they traded D-Train and Cabrera, they'd be lucky to draw 2000.
Brett Favre Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 If they traded Cabrera and Willis, they'd be lucky to draw.
Mik Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 If they traded Cabrera or Willis, even I would say fuck it.
the pinjockey Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 ::grumbles something about Mik still seeing two more titles than I have in my life:: If the Phils got Cabrera would you cave into becoming a Phils fan?
Guest Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 Cabrera is one of very few players that I wouldn't mind the Dodgers using the farm system to get.
Bored Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 I've heard the Yankees offering Cano and Wang for Dontrelle Willis. Don't know if the rumor has legs. Also, if the A's get Milton Bradley, the Yankees should seriously look into getting Mark Kotsay. Kotsay has a no trade clause for 2006 as part of the new deal signed this past year. But that may all be meaningless at this moment as apparantly Peter Gammons says the Bradley deal may not go through. Other A's speculation by him is that they are very close to signing Frank Thomas and have become the favorites to trade for David Wells for Justin Duchscherer. Yeesh not sure how I'd feel about that deal.
Mik Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 Being from Pennsylvania originally - the Phillies might be a logical choice but I've spent so much of my life disliking them - I'm not sure if I could do it.
The Czech Republic Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 Other A's speculation by him is that they are very close to signing Frank Thomas and have become the favorites to trade for David Wells for Justin Duchscherer. He has family around Beloit/Rockford, send him to the Cubs
therealworldschampion Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 If the Phillies were to get Cabrera, the same idiot portion of the fanbase who constantly rip Abreu would be ripping Cabrera as well, due probably to the rumors about his attitude last year. Willis on the other hand, with his work ethic and attitude would probably be loved in the city.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted December 6, 2005 Author Report Posted December 6, 2005 The only player the Phils could feasibly trade for either Willis or Cabrera is Chase Utley (since he's both good AND cheap). I doubt that's happening any time soon.

Mik Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 They're not that stupid. It was taken out of context by Newsday...surprise, surprise. Basically the Marlins wanted Cano and Wang for Pierre and the Yankees countered with Cano and Wang for Willis. The Marlins quickly said no, but apparently that makes them available. I don't know. As for the trade, the only teams that would be able to make a necessary trade would be Dodgers, Angels, D-Backs and that's about it.
Guest Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 As long as he doesn't go to the Angels, I'm ok with this. I know we have enough to give though.
Bruiser Chong Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 LaTroy Hawkins is apparently about to become a resident of Shea.

Well, Cano and Wang really aren't available either.
Guest Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 If the Yankees want to improve at all, they must be made available.
Vern Gagne Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 LaTroy Hawkins is apparently about to become a resident of Shea. What are the Mets thinking signing LaTroy Hawkins? He imploded in Chicago, what makes them think he'll be able to handle pitching in New York?
Brett Favre Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 I don't see the reason to trade Cano. Wang I could see, but they could plug holes without trading either.
The Czech Republic Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 LaTroy Hawkins is apparently about to become a resident of Shea. How kind of stadium management to give him a place to stay, since he won't have a team to travel with. Hey wait a minute BAHAHAHA Minaya sucks
Guest Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 I don't see the reason to trade Cano. Wang I could see, but they could plug holes without trading either. I think whichever team is going to take Wang is going to get burned badly. The Yanks should probably just stay put or try to make a move for Milton Bradley. Don't know what the Dodgers would want though.
