The OAO Raw Thread - Dec/5th/05

Recommended Posts

Here's one thing that makes no sense about the McMahon/Helmsley Era II though: Vince seems to like Cena. Pretty much any sort of HHH/Steph conniving would have to involve Vince on some level, but right now it makes no sense for Vince to do this. I mean he just fired Bischoff for various reasons, one of which was his abuse of Cena.

I actually posed that question in another thread last week. Is Vince pissed at Bischoff for conspiring against Cena, or is he pissed at Bisch for conspiring against Cena and fucking it all up? The reason this all seems bizarre is that Vince is schmoozing with Cena lately and it doesn't seem right given what we know about Vince. I mean does Cena really fit his image of a proper champion?

Anyway, tonight's show was far too much talk but I have to admit the Edge/Hayes thing was really off the wall. Oh and I loved Maria breaking her dumb announcer chick character to rant on Bischoff.

The Champion is a "Ni.." /Blazing Saddles

I just thought the HHH/Steph thing was Vince being a douchebag whilst both of them were next to each other, as they just seemed kind of awkward toward each other after Vince exitted. I thought it was just some bizarre call back.

Maria ruled, though.

Interesting article on why Cena is getting booed: HERE

From the article:

Cena has the repertoire as he has shown in the OVW and his early WWE days, but was probably informed to wrestle a more formulated style because the WWE thinks the fans like faces that do the same repeated spots in the ring. I believe his recent wrestling style is a product of the WWE believing they know what they audience wants and this is the real problem.

Most entertaining Raw in some time. I understand the "too much talk" criticism but I was entertained. Everyone involved with the Eric Bischoff Trial skits were great in their roles. They make reference to Shelton's misuse and it involves a storyline with HBK. Edge and Lita being hell bent on exposing everyone's personal problems to the tv audience is a good gimmick for them. Michael Hayes' promo was incredible - the Terry Gordy stuff was touchy but it's been longer than two weeks since his death - and I like how they acknowledged Mr. McMahon's new breed of Stooges to the tv audience. They are finally going to acknowledge HHH and Stephanie's relationship on camera which could lead to some interesting storylines. The Lance Cade vs. Chavo Guerrero match was nice, remindng me of a Nitro match at times, both guys had an opportunity to show their stuff - the show continued around them but Styles and Lawler didn't stray from the action, Styles doing the Guerrero family history lesson was good as well. I'm really suprised people are bashing this episode. Yes, it's nice to see good wrestling but these shows need to be entertaining as well. Lately, we've been getting neither. I'll settle for at least one whenever I can get it. Besides, the wrestling when there was some, wasn't too shabby. The tag team elimination match was the worst match but at least succeeded in making Big Show/Kane look like monsters.

this RAW was one of the better ones...and some of you still disliked it. so just stop watching it. save yourself time, and save the time of other people who read your drawn out bitching.

No wonder they want to keep him as champ since Cena is a mere puppet to Vince's bizarro decisions.

Agreed with all of this. Raw was actually really good tonight.

The only low point of the entire show was seeing Mae Young on my TV screen.

The only way I'll enjoy this Michaels/Benjamin feud outside of the ring... if they actually go through with it... is if they make Shelton the "cocky black athlete" that many people have been wanting to see him do fo a while now.

I'll only be interested in it if Shelton ends up going over. This could be another Jeff Hardy situation.

I fail to see how Benjamin looking retarded by tagging himself in and proceeding to get beat within seconds and Shawn Michaels having a "what the fuck?" look on his face does anything good for him. Sure, it hints at a feud between the two, but they could have done that without pointing out how shitty Sheldon Benjamin is. Btw, the tag match was horrible. Did everyone decide to not gel? The only plus here was that Benjamin got to use his deep badass blackman voice in the prematch promo with Shawn. Shawn not caring what other people think goes against just about everything he does in the ring.

Vince McMahon as a Judge and the trial of Eric Bischoff was pointless, and even worse, not funny. They build the whole show towards something we knew was going to happen, and failed do deliver on a GM (from what I am told, I stopped watching after the tag match). The only good part was Foley and his lunch box. The rest were just really lame jokes and a pathetic attempt at using legal jargon (which the WWE has a knack for).

If the WWE doesn't introduce a new tag team to RAW and build them concurrently with Big Show and Kanes monster push, I fail to see the purpose of Show/Kane partnership. The 3 Team Squash was certainly effective in getting over their dominance, but to not build a potential threat to the tag champs at the same time renders the Show/Kane team worthless.

The Edge segment was bad and awkward up until Hayes got on the mic and then proceeded to bury nearly every WWE wrestler by cutting a promo that was lightyears ahead of what's been said on WWE television.

That's what happens when guys are allowed to say what they feel rather than having their words written by somebody who couldn't get a job writing for a real show.

That was scary. I mean really... he needs to be in a speaking role.

Here is what they should have done at the end of the Shelton/HBK match: Shelton is just on the ground, looking dejected. HBK is glaring at him looking dissapointed. Then he helps Shelton up off the ground. Shelton is still sort of moping around. HBK holds out his hand to shake - then instead pushes him in the chest and gives him SCM.

HBK then cuts a promo about how you need to have attitude in the ring - but you also have to be able to back that attitude up. In the end it doesn't matter if Shelton has attitude or not because HBK saw today that Shelton's a loser either way.

Pointing out the legit weaknesses of a babyface is a terrrible idea. The people already think Shelton is a loser. They don't need that confirmed.

If anything, Shelton should have accepted HBK's hand, paused for a second, and then hit Michaels with a super kick. There's your attitude, heel turn and a feud that Michaels will win anyway, but at least Shelton doesn't look like a pussy from start to finish,

The Hayes promo shocked the hell out of me (in a good way). Was he that good on the mic in his prime?

I too had no idea Dok Hendrix had it in him. I've seen matches of his from the 80s but never a promo.

And then some.

Cool. WWE could really use Hayes as a manager.

If they were going to have Shelton lose then they should have had HBK accidently cost him the match instead of having him lose like that. Then HBK tries to apologize and Benjamin goes off on him.

But no.. he misses a flying cross body and gets pinned. Give me a break.

Alright. Here's how it goes.

*Segment opens with Hayes walking down a hall, sees Murdoch sittin in a lawn chair, an open cooler at his side, and an open beer in his hand. *

"You can't drink that in here, Mr. Murdoch"

"Whuh?"

"You can't drink that beer in here."

"Did you just call me "Mister Murdoch"?"

"Alright, "Trevor", you can't drink that backstage. Against company policy"

"Now hows bouts that, Michael PS Hayes, tell me I can't drink my beer... shoot... and "Company Policy"... now that's a damn shame, the ol freebird is now a company man..."

"Are you gonna throw that drink out or what?"

"I think, the question is, are you gonna sit down and grab a cold'un, or are you gonna be that company man that you would have spat on years ago.."

"That was a different life"

"Ain't no life but the one we lead, boss. Nothin different bout this one."

"Ain't that the truth..."

*Murdoch offers Hayes a beer*

*Segment ends*

*Segment, later on in the show, opens with Slaugther walkin down the hall, as he stops to see Murdoch sittin in a lawchair, wasted. The camera pans over to show Hayes in the other chair, also wasted.*

Then over the next few weeks you have Hayes and Murdoch sittin back, shootin the shit, eventually joined by other wrestlers who say fuck the whole corporate life and company suits and sit down in a lawn chair and get a drink from the cooler. This becomes the stable. Bunch of guys who drink, eat, fuck chicks, and kick the shit outta other guys for money. Gotta have some BBQ there, TV on watchin football, maybe some kids runnin around for no reason. Maybe even have a trailer set up in the parking lot or a truck, like a tailgate. Whenever a wrestler has to go wrestle, he gets up from his lawn chair, says "see ya, boys" and gets in the ring. Win or lose, he gets paid, either got his ass kicked or kicked some ass, and now is back to have another beer.

Then when they're confonted, PS Hayes can cut one of those killer promos. They could feud with all the Yankees and shit.

Seeing Mae Young do the 'Pussy Licking sign' at Vince was hilarious. Even Vince couldn't help but crack a smile.

For those who don't know, Moolah is a lesbian and I bet Mae is, too.

Considering that I read about Moolah raping her female students while she had a wrestling school at the time, I'm not surprised.

PS Hayes was never that great in the ring, but he could cut a killer promo. That's what made the Freebirds so great: Gordy & Roberts could wrestle but not speak well; Hayes could talk circles around just about anyone but was very average in the ring. Put the three together, and it was money.

RRR, I dig your scenario, but would want to see one slight change: when I think Freebirds, I think Jack Daniels. Hayes would HAVE to insist on JD rather than just beer.

/huge Freebirds mark

//only the real version with Gordy & Roberts, though, not that crap version with Jimmy Garvin & a masked-Brad Armstong
