Bored Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 I didn't want to bother digging up the WBC thread, but the U.S. final roster has been announced. With all the dropouts the outfield isn't exactly the best they could have fielded. http://www.worldbaseballclassic.com/2006/r...ex.jsp?sid=t940
devo Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 Those rosters aren't put together very well. For a lot of the countries, most of the players' place of birth, or even their physical information, isn't ncluded.
the max Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 Upon hearing that he made the team, Ken Griffey Jnr. tore his hamstring.
Bruiser Chong Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 Homer Simpson can replace him, though, since they look so much alike.
Vern Gagne Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 The US bullpen is going to be the difference in the tournament.
Bored Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 Hey only $164.99 for a South Africa jersey Aww you can't buy any Cuba merchandise. You can tell MLB designed all the uniforms for the tournament as they are all pretty bland.
the max Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 They look like the uniforms that would be in the Bases Loaded series, provided Jaleco was still making the games. What makes it even worse is that they made road and home hats for most (if not all) teams in a vain attempt to suck 35 bucks out of people twice. I was looking at the US hats but they are subpar in both colors. The Mexico and Panama hats look like something you see at a truck stop for $5.99.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted February 15, 2006 Author Report Posted February 15, 2006 The LA Angels signed Jeff Weaver to a one year deal worth $8.4 Million.
geniusMoment Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 Reds sign up Adam Dunn for 18 million over 2 years, with a club option at 13 million for the third year. The team would've been better off trading dunn for pitching, then using the money for more pitching.

geniusMoment Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 I'd settle for a solid number 2 type of guy, and then spend the 10-13 million a year on another number 2 guy. If you can get two #2 level starters you've got a nice base for yourself.
The Czech Republic Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 My plan to buy MVP 05 for PC was thwarted when it was apparently recalled by every store I've tried. Should I even bother updating my MVP 05 rosters on Gamecube?

Guest Princess Leena Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 Where would be a good place for MVP 05 XBox rosters.
Bored Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 What no mention of Sammy Sosa turning down the Nationals (Nats fans rejoice) and probably going to retire now? Poor Sammy, no one cares anymore.
the max Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 I love how Sammy turned the contract down because he feels that he shouldn't have to beg for that kind of contract. Toodles, Sammy.
Bruiser Chong Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 I posted about it elsewhere. Sorta sad to see a guy fall from grace so quickly, but it was hard to feel for the guy the last few seasons. His true colors really showed up quickly.
mike546 Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 And Pavano's injured again. This time it's his back.
Guest Rrrsh Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 Pavano was a pain in the ass for us in Florida. Sans his one great year, he was useless.
Bruiser Chong Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 From the "Where Are They Now?" file, Albert Belle has been arrested and charged with stalking an ex-girlfriend. Oh silly Albert.
2GOLD Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 From the "Where Are They Now?" file, Albert Belle has been arrested and charged with stalking an ex-girlfriend. Oh silly Albert. Albert is one of those guys were I'd always bet money he'll kill someone before 2010. He should just say the pain in his hip is controlling his brain. Someone might buy it as a defense.
Jericholic82 Posted February 19, 2006 Report Posted February 19, 2006 And Pavano's injured again. This time it's his back. OH CRAP please just shoot him out back and put us all out of misery. Seriously can they stop signing one year wonders and "potentially good" pitchers? well at looks like chacon will get in the rotation this year after all (probably a good thing)
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted February 19, 2006 Author Report Posted February 19, 2006 Seriously can they stop signing one year wonders and "potentially good" pitchers? well at looks like chacon will get in the rotation this year after all (probably a good thing) Can anyone spot the humor in these two statements?
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted February 19, 2006 Report Posted February 19, 2006 I see the irony in the statements, but what's wrong with Chacon?
Guest NYChris Posted February 19, 2006 Report Posted February 19, 2006 Barry Bonds announced that this year will be his last season. Barry done in 2006.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted February 20, 2006 Author Report Posted February 20, 2006 I see the irony in the statements, but what's wrong with Chacon? Nothing beyond that he's not going to put up a 2.85 ERA again this season. I just find it amusing to criticize one pitcher for being a one-year wonder while praising the other because he just had one good season. For what it is worth, Carl Pavano has the third best projected ERA on the staff. Yankee fans should also remember that his absense would open the door for Jaret Wright.
Precious Roy Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 I fail to see the irony. Chacon was a pleasant suprise that they got for next to nothing. He doesn't make all that much money, so it's low risk/high reward. Meanwhile Pavano was a high profile free agent signing making close to $10 million a year. Two totally different situations.
the max Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 It's not about risk. It's about one-year wonders. Chacon has been wildly inconsistant during his career, but has the "potential" to be good. He was good last year, but many are wondering if he's going to be the same pitcher next season. Pavano was always inconsistant in Montreal and Florida, which was why the eyebrows were raised when the Yanks signed him to that contract.
