2005-06 MLB Offseason Thread

Those rosters aren't put together very well. For a lot of the countries, most of the players' place of birth, or even their physical information, isn't ncluded.

They look like the uniforms that would be in the Bases Loaded series, provided Jaleco was still making the games.

What makes it even worse is that they made road and home hats for most (if not all) teams in a vain attempt to suck 35 bucks out of people twice. I was looking at the US hats but they are subpar in both colors. The Mexico and Panama hats look like something you see at a truck stop for $5.99.

Reds sign up Adam Dunn for 18 million over 2 years, with a club option at 13 million for the third year.

The team would've been better off trading dunn for pitching, then using the money for more pitching.

If Bobby Abreu couldn't grab a front line starter, I doubt Dunn would.

What no mention of Sammy Sosa turning down the Nationals (Nats fans rejoice) and probably going to retire now? Poor Sammy, no one cares anymore.

I posted about it elsewhere. Sorta sad to see a guy fall from grace so quickly, but it was hard to feel for the guy the last few seasons. His true colors really showed up quickly.

From the "Where Are They Now?" file, Albert Belle has been arrested and charged with stalking an ex-girlfriend. Oh silly Albert.

Albert is one of those guys were I'd always bet money he'll kill someone before 2010. He should just say the pain in his hip is controlling his brain. Someone might buy it as a defense.

And Pavano's injured again. This time it's his back.

OH CRAP

please just shoot him out back and put us all out of misery.

Seriously can they stop signing one year wonders and "potentially good" pitchers?

well at looks like chacon will get in the rotation this year after all (probably a good thing)

Can anyone spot the humor in these two statements?

I see the irony in the statements, but what's wrong with Chacon?

Nothing beyond that he's not going to put up a 2.85 ERA again this season. I just find it amusing to criticize one pitcher for being a one-year wonder while praising the other because he just had one good season. For what it is worth, Carl Pavano has the third best projected ERA on the staff. Yankee fans should also remember that his absense would open the door for Jaret Wright.

I fail to see the irony. Chacon was a pleasant suprise that they got for next to nothing. He doesn't make all that much money, so it's low risk/high reward. Meanwhile Pavano was a high profile free agent signing making close to $10 million a year. Two totally different situations.

It's not about risk. It's about one-year wonders. Chacon has been wildly inconsistant during his career, but has the "potential" to be good. He was good last year, but many are wondering if he's going to be the same pitcher next season.

Pavano was always inconsistant in Montreal and Florida, which was why the eyebrows were raised when the Yanks signed him to that contract.
